The 23rd produce a little passage at Long Nab, on the move (north unless stated) were 1 Fulmar, 1 Manx Shearwater south, 5 Common Scoter south, 1 Hobby, 7 Oystercatcher south, 24 Curlew, 7 Black-headed Gull, 1 Common Gull and 2 Puffin.
Elsewhere 2 juvenile Grey Wagtail were at the Mere.
The 24th was incredibly quiet with a northbound Curlew over Peasholme the only report!
A Minke Whale 5 miles northeast of Marine Drive was the highlight on the 25th while on the 26th 2 broods of Mandarin (2 + 6) on Harwood Dale Lake and a Curlew north over Scalby Lodge were the best of very few reports!

A Common Sandpiper on Wykeham South Lake and a Teal and 2 Gadwall on Flotmanby Carr were the only reports received other than from Long Nab where it was a much better day for passage, on the move (north unless stated) were 1 Red-throated Diver, 22 Fulmar + 3 south, 9 Manx Shearwater + 2 south, 225 Gannet + 612 south, 3 Cormorant, 2 Grey Heron south, 31 Shelduck south, 285 Common Scoter + 158 south, 8 Curlew + 5 south, 2 Arctic Skua, 1 Great Skua, 3 Black-headed Gull south, 1 Common Gull, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull south, 10 Great Black-backed Gull + 2 south, 22 Sandwich Tern + 2 south, 1 Common Tern, 1860 Auk sp south, 17 Puffin + 32 south, 3 Swift + 59 south, 1 Swallow south, 7 Carrion Crow + 2 south and 57 Starling south.
160 Linnet were also at Long Nab.
Four Bottlenose Dolphin moved north past Long Nab between 08.20hrs and 08.55hrs and were last seen passing Cloughton Wyke at 09.50hrs.

On the 19th 2 Green Sandpiper, 51 Lapwing and a Teal were on Potter Brompton Carr (no general access) while on the move past Long Nab (north unless stated) were 27 Fulmar, 4 Manx Shearwater, 68 Gannet + 229 south, 1 Cormorant south, 35 Common Scoter south, 1 Common Gull south, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 38 Kittiwake + 21 south, 2 Sandwich Tern + 4 south, 72 Puffin and 1 Swift.
Past Long Nab on the 21st (north unless stated) were 12 Fulmar, 83 Gannet + 17 north, 43 Common Scoter + 4 north, 5 Curlew, 23 Sandwich Tern, 180 Auk sp + 50 south, 2 Puffin and 4 Swift + 3 south.

On the 16th 9 Egyptian Geese, 3 Little Ringed Plover and 4 Lesser Black-backed Gull were on Wykeham South Lake.

The 18th was again dominated by reports from Long Nab, on the move (north unless stated) were 36 Fulmar + 2 south, 4 Manx Shearwater, 248 Gannet + 144 south, 1 Oystercatcher, 1 Great Skua, 142 Kittiwake + 6 south, 1 Sandwich Tern south, 62 Puffin and 2 Swift.
A Coal Tit by the Seawatch Hut was an interesting record.

Friday 13th - Saturday 14th June 2014
The only reports on the 13th were of a Shelduck a Gadwall and the Whooper Swan on Potter Brompton Carr (no general access), unfortunately the Whooper Swan was found dead there on the 14th.
Also on the 14th in the Johnson's Marsh area were 11 Grey Heron, 4 Teal, a Little Owl and 400 Wood Pigeon.

A slow few days, the pair of Garganey will still present on Johnson's Marsh on the 11th but weren't seen on the 12th. Also on the 11th were 2 Minke Whale in Cayton Bay, a Mother and a Calf.
The only significant reports on the 12th were of 3 Honey Buzzard and a Turtle Dove up at Wykeham Forest.

Monday 9th - Tuesday 10th June 2014
A quiet day on the 9th was mainly dominated by the news of some successful breeding, of the 6 probable pairs of Little Ringed Plover at Wykeham South Lake 4 of them now have 11 young between them, while on the Grand Hotel the 'new' Peregrine pair have two young.
Also on Wykeham South Lake were the Egyptian Geese, 3 Gadwall and 2 Teal were on Flotmanby and 2 Honey Buzzard were seen again in the Forest.
The 10th was a very different day, the highlight, for one at least, was a BLACK STORK which flew south over Coldyhill Lane in Newby at 10.30hrs. This is the fifth record for Scarborough with all but one record falling between the 9th and 19th June!
Also seen during the day were a showy pair of Garganey on Johnson's Marsh found during the afternoon where there was also the first Green Sandpiper of the Autumn and a good count of 11 Grey Heron.

A four hour Pelagic Trip leaving Scarborough Harbour aboard the Queensferry is planned for Sunday 13th July. Meeting time will be 6.45am for a 7am departure. Price subject to change but will likely be £15.00.

The years fourth Wood Warbler was found today in song in the Forest above Wrench Green. Elsewhere 2 Honey Buzzard and a Hobby were seen from the Raptor Viewpoint and the Grasshopper Warbler was still along Rocks Lane.

The 5th was a very quiet day with the 6th only just coming out on top, the pick of the days reports were the satellite tagged Osprey west at the Wykeham Raptor Viewpoint while also seen in that area were several Turtle Dove at least 1 Honey Buzzard and a Goosander west, a new Quail was heard on Burn Howe Moor.
The 7th was another slow day but was brightened up somewhat by 2 Spoonbill that flew south over Irton at 16.15, elsewhere a single Honey Buzzard was seen again in the Forest, the Pink-footed Goose, 9 Egyptian Geese, 3 Shelduck and a Teal were on Wykeham South Lake and the Grasshopper Warbler from earlier in the Spring was still along Rocks Lane.

The 3rd produced the adult Whooper Swan, 1 Shelduck and 2 Teal were on Potter Brompton Carr (no general access), a 1st summer drake Goldeneye was on Wykeham South Lake and the Little Grebes were feeding 3 young on Johnson's Marsh.
While past Long Nab (all south) were 1 Curlew, 1 Swift, 5 Swallow and 1 Flava.
The only reports on the 4th were as follows, the Pink-footed Goose, 2 Teal, 2 Oystercatcher, 3 Little Ringed Plover, 200 Swift and 4 Black-headed Gull flew east at Wykeham South Lake and 2 Reed Warbler were at Seamer Tip.
While past Long Nab (all south) were 1 Curlew, 1 Swift, 5 Swallow and 1 Flava.
The only reports on the 4th were as follows, the Pink-footed Goose, 2 Teal, 2 Oystercatcher, 3 Little Ringed Plover, 200 Swift and 4 Black-headed Gull flew east at Wykeham South Lake and 2 Reed Warbler were at Seamer Tip.

The 2nd turned out to be a very frustrating day for some up at Long Nab, it all started at 10.15hrs when what was almost certainly an adult male Citrine Wagtail was seen briefly near the Hut. Unfortunately the bird was incredibly mobile and usually fed by small puddles along tyre tracks in well grown crop fields making getting anything other than flight views virtually impossible. It was last seen at 12.10hrs, again briefly in flight but despite hours of searching after it was never seen again.
Although the bird was almost certainly a Citrine good enough views were never obtained to rule out hybrid or for the observer to be confident enough to claim it.
The Quail was heard again at Long Nab with new birds reported from Wykeham South Lake and at Thornton le Dale and up at the Wykeham Raptor Viewpoint a single Honey Buzzard and 2 Turtle Dove were seen.
On the move (south unless stated) were 2 Fulmar + 10 north, 2 Teal, 3 Common Scoter north, 1 Ringed Plover north, 1 Common Gull, 3 Lesser Black-backed Gull + 3 north, 2 Great Black-backed Gull, 7 Sandwich Tern + 3 north, 1 Puffin + 1 north, 6 Swift, 1 Skylark, 35 Swallow + 3 north, 5 House Martin, 2 Jackdaw north, 2 Carrion Crow + 1 north, 2 Goldfinch and 5 Linnet.

Saturday 31st May - Sunday 1st June 2014
A fairly quiet day on the 31st produced the usual suspects and a satellite tagged Osprey at Wykeham Raptor Viewpoint.
The 1st however was another good day, the clear highlight of the day was an adult WHITE-TAILED EAGLE that flew north at the Wykeham Raptor Viewpoint at 10.05hrs. The bird seen at the same location on 21st - 22nd March was also an adult and begs the question, was it the same bird?
Another highlight was a singing Wood Warbler in the hedge between Harpers Chip Shop and the Shell Garage on the A64 just east of Staxton.
Elsewhere a Quail was singing at Long Nab where the 'Northern' Golden Plover remained, 2 Honey Buzzard were seen from the Wykeham Raptor Viewpoint, Redstarts were seen in Wykeham Forest and at Scar Wood and migrant Sedge and Garden Warblers were seen at Ravenscar.
