Saturday 3rd August

The main highlights from Long Nab this morning were 3 Arctic Skuas and 3 Great Skuas. A male Honey Buzzard was showing well from Wykeham Raptor Viewpoint mid-morning and 3 were seen from there in the afternoon. A Turtle Dove was singing near the Mill Inn at lunchtime, and there were 200+ Greenfinches and a Willow Tit at Wykeham Nursery. A flock of 21 Cormorants flew over Crossgates in a V formation this afternoon, and a Sanderling was spotted in Jackson's Bay. Early evening a Wood Sandpiper, a Green Sandpiper and 2 Grey Wagtails were at the pool below Northstile House, Wrench Green. At Scalby Mills/Nab there were 8 Redshank, 14 Turnstones and 2 Common Gulls (one a juvenile), while a Knot flew south. A female Stonechat was feeding a single juvenile on the cliffs at the south end of Jackson's Bay. 230 House Sparrows were in the hedge by Scalby Lodge screen, 2 Teal were on Johnson's Marsh, and an Egyptian Goose was at Wykeham South Lake. 9 Crossbills and 2 Tree Pipits were seen in Harwood Dale Forest east of the Whitby Road.
