Tuesday 24th March

At least our first day of lockdown was a beautiful sunny one. A day of singing Chiffchaffs - including at Cockrah, 3 in Falsgrave Park, at least 10 at Burton Riggs, 2 at Seamer Tip pool, and one in a Stepney Road garden. 3 Yellowhammers and a flock of 12 Blackbirds were seen on the Yedmandale roads; a singing Blackcap was in Falsgrave Park and another at Burton Riggs. A newly arrived Firecrest was at Crook Ness (influx of Goldcrests/Chiffchaffs today), and at Long Nab a Snow Bunting flew south and Goldcrests and Chiffchaffs were newly in. At Seamer Tip pool there were 14 Tufted Ducks and 2 Oystercatchers. Most of the Kittiwakes, however, have gone back out to sea, leaving only 6 under the Spa bridge.
