Saturday 9th May

A Hooded Crow was seen flying south at Long Nab early this morning, then over Holbeck, and again over Knipe Point Drive. A cream crowned Marsh Harrier was seen heading south at Gristhorpe Cliff, and an hour later another Marsh Harrier flew south, high over Long Nab. Also seen at Gristhorpe Cliff were 3 Wheatears, 3 Lesser Whitethroats, 2 Whimbrel on the rocks, 5 Yellow Wagtails heading north and a Ruff heading west. In Wykeham Forest, near North Moor, a Turtle Dove was heard and a Spotted Flycatcher was seen. At Givendale in Dalby Forest there were 2 Yellow Wagtails, 6 Garden Warblers, a Woodcock and about 7 Buzzards. 43 species were seen between Long Nab and Cloughton, including 2 Stonechats, 30+ Sand Martins, and a Whimbrel. 2 Dunlin and 2 Ringed Plover were in Jackson's Bay. Birds passing Long Nab included 77 Common Scoter, a Little Ringed Plover, 2 Ringed Plover and a Whimbrel. A singing Grasshopper Warbler remains in the short hedge just north of Long Nab. A Sedge Warbler was singing in brambles in Falsgrave Park, where there was also a Lesser Whitethroat, 2 Whitethroats and 2 Garden Warblers. A Sedge Warbler and a Willow Warbler were on Castle Hill this evening.
