Wednesday 6th May

There were 2 reports of Cuckoos today - one from Spiker's Hill and one from Beedale (possibly the same bird?), and a Turtle Dove was at Hutton Buscel before flying off north-west. Good numbers of Swifts are now being reported, including a screaming party of 6 on Tennyson Avenue, and 10 - 12 House Martins were at College Lane/Filey Road. At Seamer Road Mere there were 23 Tufted Duck, a Pink-footed Goose, a Common Sandpiper and 2 Sedge Warblers. Another 3 Sedge Warblers were at the 'mounds' near Seamer Tip pool, and another was in brambles below Holbeck car park. A Whimbrel was on Black Rocks, and 5 flew past Long Nab. A Common Sandpiper was on the rocks just south of Cromer Point, and 5+ Yellow Wagtails were around the water treatment plant. At Johnson's Marsh there were 6 herons, 2 Teal, 2 Coots (mating), a Buzzard and a Common Sandpiper. A second calendar year male Marsh Harrier flew south-east over Crossgates, a Red Kite flew over towards Seamer, and later in the afternoon another Marsh Harrier was seen over Flotmanby. Also at Flotmanby was a singing Corn Bunting.
