Friday 17th July

Passing South Cliff this morning were: 2 Willow Tits going south, 6 Crossbills heading north and 1 in Cornelian Ravine, 6 Mediterranean Gulls were on Black Rocks (2 adults, 2 second summer and 2 first summer). A cream crowned Marsh Harrier came in at Long Nab and headed west, and a Red Kite was seen at Leith Rigg. Also passing Long Nab were 62 Common Scoter, 43 Black-headed Gulls, a Sparrowhawk, a Peregrine, a Kestrel, 3 Whimbrel and a Mediterranean Gull all heading north. 6 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 6 Curlew, 8 Swifts and 31 Linnets went south. A Whitethroat was singing near the observatory. At Fylingdales east of the A169 there was a family of 6 Lesser Redpolls, adult Spotted Flycatchers with at least 2 fledglings, a family group of 4 Wheatears, Stonechat adults with 4 fledglings and a Merlin. An adult Mediterranean Gull was at Folkton Carr.
