Tuesday 13th October

 A Lapland Bunting was in the stubble field behind the Long Nab Observatory early this morning. 3 Yellow-browed Warblers, 2 of them possibly lingering birds, were at South Cliff, where small numbers of Redwings were arriving in off the sea. A Goldeneye and a Kingfisher were seen at Brompton Ponds. Birds passing Long Nab included 16 Pale-bellied Brent Geese, 28 Pink-footed Geese and 3 Greylag Geese all heading south, plus 2 Pintails, 4 Red-throated Divers, and 43 Common Scoter all heading north. A Twite flew in off the sea then continued southwards. A Raven was spotted flying south at Cloughton Wyke, where there were also 4 Red-throated Divers, a Peregrine, 80 Redwings, 4 Fieldfares, 2 Chiffchaffs, 6 Goldcrests, 60 Tree Sparrows and 20 Yellowhammers. 4 Red-throated Divers, 5 Guillemots and 2 drake Eiders were seen off North Marine Drive, 2 Merlins flew together south over South Bay from the Castle to Holbeck, and a pair of Peregrines were on the Grand Hotel. 26 Bramblings, 9 Redwings, a Fieldfare and a Chiffchaff were on the south side of Castle Hill, and a single Sanderling was spotted in Cayton Bay.
