Tuesday 2nd October

4 Red-throated Divers, 3 Guillemots, 2 Redshanks, 4 Rock Pipits and a Lesser Black-backed Gull were in and around the harbour this morning, and 2 Razorbills were in South Bay. 45 Pink-footed Geese flew north-west over Cayton, 98 went north over Crowmer Point, about 100 flew south over Burniston Gardens then Cayton Bay, 135 flew over Burniston followed by another 70, about 130 flew north over Hutton Buscel in the afternoon, 58 flew north over Wykeham Lakes, and 130 flew south over Pickering. A rather late Swallow flew south through South Cliff this morning, as did 96 Chaffinches, 21 Bramblings and 149 Siskins; while 2 Bramblings flew north, a Fieldfare flew in off the sea, and a Jay was in Holbeck Ravine. A male Goldeneye was at Seamer Road Mere, while another was on Seamer Tip pool together with 2 Gadwall, a Teal and a Kingfisher. A Snow Bunting was above Scalby Mills where a single Whooper flew past south and a Dolphin or two also swam by southwards. 5 Red-throated Divers and 5 roosting Purple Sandpipers were at the harbour this afternoon. At Wykeham East Lake there were 3 Goldeneye, a Pink-footed Goose, a Snipe, 11 Lapwings, 29 Wigeon, 4 Teal, and 42 Great Black-backed Gulls were in the gull roost.
