Species
passing Long Nab were quite varied today with ducks, divers, shearwaters,
waders, gulls, terns and skuas all being recorded. Totals were a Shoveler (N),
37 Teal (24 S, 13 N), 28 Common Scoter (3 S, 25 N), 2 Red-throated Divers (N),
231 Manx Shearwaters (9 S, 222 N), 168 Oystercatchers (163 S, 5 N), 3 Golden
Plovers (S), 2 Whimbrel (S), 6 Curlew (4 S, 2 N), 5 Turnstone (S), 42 Knot (S),
a Ruff (S), a Sanderling (S), 10 Dunlin (6 S, 4 N), 45 Redshanks (43 S, 2 N), a
Greenshank (S), 2 juvenile Little Gulls (1 S, 1 N), a 2cy Mediterranean Gull
(S), 72 Sandwich Terns (38 S, 34 N), 367 Common Terns (7 S, 360 N), 25 Arctic
Terns (4 S, 21 N), 5 Great Skua (2 S, 3 N), a Pomarine Skua (N) and 7 Arctic
Skuas (4 S, 3 N). 2 Minke Whales
were also seen today from the Obs and present in the surrounding area were 15
Sand Martins, 40 Barn Swallows, a House Martin, 15 Willow Warblers, 5
Chiffchaffs, a Reed Warbler, 3 Blackcaps, 2 Whitethroats, 3 Whratears, 3 Yellow
Wagtails, 350 Linnets near the Obs and a Corn Bunting.
Still
present today was the Great White Egret
at Seamer Tip pool and a Honey Buzzard
was reported from Wykeham Raptor View Point. Elsewhere in the area 10
Crossbills and a Green Sandpiper went east over Seamer Tip; a Willow Tit, a
Hobby and 6 Blackcaps were at New Dyke; 3 Snipe, 2 Sedge Warblers, 3 Reed
Warblers and a Swift flew over Seamer Tip Pool; Ringed Plover and Common
Sandpiper were on Harwood Dale Lake; around North Bay we had a Whimbrel, 48
Redshank (plus 3 south), 36 Sandwich Terns and 8 Common Terns; 3 Willow
Warblers along Scalby Beck plus two more by the Sealife Centre and 11 were on
the south side of Castle Hill with 3 Chiffchaffs.
Finally
a Wheatear was seen along Marine Drive this morning.
