A good influx of Wheatears along the coast today totalling at least 101; 29 along South Cliff through the day, 22 in a field at Mount Pleasant Farm near Redcliffe, 29 on the Castle Headland and 21 at Long Nab. Also one at Seamer Carr. Swifts were also returning - several around Seamer Tip pools, 5 at Harwood Dale, 7 over Gladstone Street, 25 screaming high over Hovingham Drive and 3 over Tennyson Avenue. A Cream-crown Marsh Harrier was spotted at Wykeham Lakes, 2 Little Ringed Plover were at Taylor Way, and a Little Egret was on Star Carr. A Hobby flew in at Long Nab and another was seen at Ravenscar. An Osprey flew north over Gristhorpe, South Cliff, Newlands, Scalby Lodge, Burniston and continued up Harwood Dale. The Pied Flycatcher remained at Hilla Green, while a Spotted Flycatcher was seen in sycamores at Crook Ness and another at Low North Camp. 2 Turtle Doves were by the Mill Inn, and 2 Sedge Warblers were singing along the cinder track in the Rocks Lane and rugby club areas. At Long Nab there was a Garden Warbler, a Grasshopper Warbler and a White Wagtail present, while a Whooper Swan on the sea left as a group of 5 more flew by north. 42 Lesser Black-backed Gulls flew past, and 854 Swallows and 82 House Martins flew by southwards. A Cream-crown Marsh Harrier was seen at Ravenscar. 3 Common Sandpipers were at Seamer Road Mere and 4 were on Black Rocks. 3 singing Sedge Warblers were newly arrived at South Cliff, and another was on the Castle Tops. A Green Woodpecker was at Harwood Dale, and at Jugger Howe a Cuckoo was heard and 2 Stonechat territories were observed. A Redshank was at Johnson's Marsh.
