Saturday 9th October

A Jay, probably a migrant, circled over Crossgates before landing in the park by Heron Lane, while a second was seen flying over in the afternoon, as was a Merlin. At Ravenscar there was a Brambling, and a Yellow-browed Warbler was in sycamores just north of the tea rooms. Another Yellow-browed Warbler was heard calling from near the sewage works at Cayton Bay. Highlights from Long Nab include 17 Common Scoter, 2 Great Skuas and 2 Shelduck heading north; a Great Northern Diver and 2 Red-throated Divers heading south; 52 Starlings in the field behind the hut and 17 Reed Buntings around the wires and hedge line; plus 4 Kestrels. 95 Pink-footed Geese flew south over Hutton Buscel.
