Three Grasshopper Warblers still present between Scalby Beck and Cromer Point. Lesser Whitethroats at Scalby Beck, Scalby Lodge and Hovingham Drive. A Shoveler at Seamer tip pool. A Great Spotted Woodpecker at Cromer Point sewage works was an unusual location. Three Dippers between Hackness and Wrench Green. Two singing Redstarts between the two foot bridges at Scar Wood, also a Cuckoo. A Wheatear at Yons Nab, 4 Sandwich Terns south. A Common Sandpiper at Burton Riggs. At Eller Beck, Fylingdales Moor: male Whinchat, Wheatear and 2 pairs of Stonechats. At Wykeham Lakes: Great White Egret, 2 Little Ringed Plovers, 2 Egyptian Geese, Greenshank, 2 Teal, 2 Shelduck. An early morning Swift over Prospect Road, Scarborough. Two Grasshopper Warblers in the Scalby Lodge gullies. A Raven at Stoupe Brow. A Wheatear at Marine Drive. Three Garden Warblers at Harland Woods. Lesser Whitethroat in Gristhorpe village, singles also near Lightfoot's Lane, at Castle Hill, and Crossgates. 50+ Fieldfare at Scar Wood. Two Cuckoos at Stony Marl Moor, also a Short-eared Owl, and Red Grouse. A male Ring Ouzel in the Gristhorpe Cliffs/Yons Nab area. Also there 8 Wheatears, White Wagtail, 2 Lesser Whitethroats, plus 2 Fieldfare flew north, and a Grey Plover flew south. An Arctic Tern flew south off North Bay. A Red-throated Diver in Cayton Bay.

The first Swift of the year was over Hutton Buscel. A breeding plumage Spotted Redshank at Potter Brompton Carr (viewable from Haybridge), also there Greenshank, Little Ringed Plover, and 2 Garganey. Two Redstarts at Scar Wood. A Ring Ouzel, Cuckoo, Redstart, 17 Willow Warblers around Jugger Howe Moor. Two Pintail flew east over Crossgates. A Bar-tailed Godwit in North Bay and presumably the same bird later in Jackson's Bay. A Grasshopper Warbler just south of Cromer Point, a Greenshank on the rocks there. A Grey Partridge above Jackson's Bay (now scarce along that part of the coast due to Red-legged Partridge releases).Whitethroat singing in Scalby Beck. A Cetti's Warbler still at Seamer Tip pool. Two Sedge Warblers at Sherburn Carr. A Marsh Harrier flew south through Cayton Bay, a Wheatear there plus a White Wagtail at Killerby Cliffs. A Wheatear in North Bay, 6 Eider flew south. A Cuckoo east of Harwood Dale Lake. At Wykeham Lakes: 2 Egyptian Geese, Little Ringed Plover, Common Sandpiper, Greenshank and Yellow Wagtail. Four Dippers on the river Derwent between Hackness and Wrench Green. A single flock of 200 Stock Doves and pair of Stonechats at Willerby Carr. Migrants in the Yons Nab/Gristhorpe Cliffs area: Wheatear, Garden Warbler, 3 Lesser Whitethroats, 16 Whitethroats, 2 Yellow Wagtails.

Two reeling Grasshopper Warblers at Scalby Lodge cliffs. Two Turtle Doves were at Broxa village. Redstart and 2 Tree Pipits at Wrench Green. 8+ active Heron nests at Mowthorpe. Also a Lesser Whitethroat by the hotel and Wheatear at Stoupe Brow. Two Wheatears and a Grasshopper Warbler (Pipe Gully) at Long Nab, 7 Whimbrel flew north. Two Lesser Whitethroats near Seamer Tip. Two Marsh Harriers over Gristhorpe village left south. A Cetti's Warbler, 6 Sedge and 1 Reed Warbler, plus a collared Dove and Shelduck at Seamer Tip pool. A Grasshopper Warbler at Cromer Point, also Redstart and Wheatear there, and a Lesser Whitethroat at Scalby Beck. Another Grasshopper Warbler by the Cleveland Way above Cayton Bay, and a Redstart there. At Wykeham Lakes: 2 Egyptian Geese, 4 Little Ringed Plovers, 2 Shelduck, 11 Lbb Gulls, 9 Teal, Great White Egret, 35 Sand Martins and 3 Oystercatchers. A male Garganey was at Potter Brompton Carr, also a White Wagtail. Two Wheatears at Cayton Bay. Yellow and White Wagtail, 8 Wheatears at Gristhorpe Bay. A male Black Redstart initially seen at Pipe Gully, Long Nab early morning and was refound at Cromer Point Water Treatment plant in the afternoon. Three Wheatears at Long Nab. The first Whitethroats arrived today; one at Long Nab and three along the cliffs between Jackson's Bay and Cromer Point. Highlights past Long Nab included 28 Common Scoter, 14 Sandwich Terns, 14 Red-throated Divers, 4 Manx Shearwaters. At Potter Brompton Carr: Little Egret, 2 Great White Egrets, Golden Plover, Marsh Harrier, 36 Swallows, 20 Sand Martins, House Martin. A Grey Plover briefly at Wykeham Lakes. Also there were 2 Little Ringed Plovers, Pink-footed Goose, 2 Common Scoter, Pochard, Dunlin, 2 Yellow Wagtails, 16 Swallows, 50 Sand Martins, 3 Reed Warblers, Cetti's Warbler. Single Wheatears at Marine Drive and Cromer Point. The singing Redstart was still at Scar Wood, also Green Woodpecker and Redwing. Whooper Swans were on the move over the sea today: 79 (49+30) flew north past White Nab., also 130 Meadow Pipits flew north. At Wykeham Lakes: six Little Ringed Plovers (East Lake), a Dunlin, Green Sandpiper, Oystercatcher, 3 Snipe, 14 Teal, Gadwall, 4 Common Scoter (one male) on Water Sports Lake, 13 Goldeneye, Pink-footed Goose, 2 Great Crested Grebes, Great White Egret, Barn Owl, 4 Lbb Gulls, 2 Grey Partridge, 2 Sand Martins, Marsh Tit, Willow Warbler, 8 Yellowhammers. Two Great White Egrets at Ruston Carr, flew towards Potter Brompton Carr. Thirty Whooper Swans flew NW at Cayton. A Willow Warbler and 45 Yellowhammers at Thornton Carrs. A Red Kite flew south over Eastfield, also one over the A64 near Scampston plus one near Ganton. A Little Egret near Brompton.

The first Common Sandpiper of spring was at Staindale Lake, Dalby Forest, also a singing Blackcap there. A drake Common Scoter picked up in Cayton village. It was strong and released at Seamer tip pool, and had left by next morning. Two Whooper Swans, 2 Little Ringed Plovers, 2 shelduck, 8 Teal at Wykeham Lakes. A male Peregrine at Castle Cliffs. A male Wheatear at Long Nab plus a Little Ringed Plover flew north early morning. A Red Kite at Ganton, plus two near Sherburn. A Swallow at Ellerburn Bank.

A White Wagtail in the field by Long Nab Bird Observatory early morning. At Wykeham Lakes: Pink-footed Goose, 4 Wigeon, Shoveler, 2 Gadwall, 14 Teal, 12 Goldeneye, a leucistic Common Gull (2cy), Great White Egret, 8 Oystercatchers, 2 Little Ringed Plovers (East Lake), 3 Sand Martins, and a Willow Warbler. A Little Ringed Plover flew south over Scalby Mills, just 13 Wigeon remain. A single Purple Sandpiper on the rock armour at Marine Drive. Two Oystercatchers, 104 Common Gulls, 36 Black-headed Gulls at Harwood Dale Lake. Pair of Stonechats at Moor End Rd, Harwood Dale. A Red Kite over The Nursery, Thornton-le-Dale. A Sand Martin flew south at Cromer Point. A Great White Egret seen from a train in the carrs just outside Seamer. At Potter Brompton Carr: Egyptian Goose, Jack Snipe, Green Sandpiper, 4 Great White Egrets, 2 Marsh Harriers, 2 Willow Tits, 30 Redwing, Stonechat.

29 flocks of Common Scoter sound recorded over Crossgates in the night. At Wykeham Lakes: 2 Little Ringed Plovers (East Lake), 2 Shelduck, 10 Teal, Great White Egret, 2 Oystercatchers. A Willow Warbler, Blackcap and a Swallow near Scarborough Crematorium. A RedKite over Seamer Moor Road, and two over star Carr. 59 Curlew in the Star Carr/Seamer Meads area, plus 2 Golden Plovers, and a Little Egret. Up to five Goshawks were reported from the Wykeham Forest Raptor Viewpoint. A Willow Warbler in Crossgates. A Raven flew north at Long Nab. A Sand Martin flew west at Burton Riggs. A pair of Mandarins on the river at Wrench Green. Five Red Kites in the Scampston area. Three Lesser Redpolls at Harwood Dale Forest.

A big Common Scoter movement overnight (24th/25th), 38 flocks sound recorded over Crossgates. Also Pink-footed Geese and Barnacle Geese recorded. A Lbb Gull at Scalby Mills. 4 Shelducks, Little Egret, Great White Egret, Marsh Harrier and Kingfisher at Potter Brompton Carr. Eight gadwall, 6 Goldeneye, 6+ Chiffchaffs Seamer Rd Mere. At Wykeham Lakes: female Common Scoter (East Lake), 2 Little Ringed Plovers, Shoveler, 11 Teal, 9 Chiffchaffs, Willow Warbler, 2 Oystercatchers. 260 Pink-footed Geese flew north along the coast (2 skeins). A Raven flew north over the Castle Headland.

The first Wheatear of spring today, a male near Eller Beck, Fylingdales Moor. At the eastern edge of the moors a 2 mile loop following the Stoupe Brow Trail revealed 25+ Meadow Pipit territories and three Stonechat territories. 50+ Kittiwakes were back on Spa Bridge and 100+ on Castle Cliffs. Two Little Ringed Plovers, a Great White Egret, 2 Shelduck, 18 Goldeneye, and 9 Teal at Wykeham East Lake. A Common Buzzard flew north along the coast from town. A Willow Tit and 2 displaying Grey Wagtails at Staindale Lake, Dalby Forest. Flocks of Common Scoters were heard over Peasholm and Burniston overnight. A Water Rail at Potter Brompton Carr.

The first Manx Shearwater of spring flew south at Long Nab, a female Merlin flew south over Saltpans Rd, Cloughton. 13 Siskin in a Burniston garden. The male Black Redstart was still at Lebberston. A Bar-tailed Godwit, 24 Redshank, and 26 Oystercatchers at Yons Nab. A Jack Snipe at Taylor Way pools. Four Oystercatchers on roofs of industrial units at Hopper Hill Rd. The pair of Shelduck still frequenting coastal wetlands Scalby Lodge to Cloughton. Three Great White Egrets south of Wykeham Lakes by Long Causeway Rd. At Potter Brompton Carr: fem Pintail, Green Sandpiper, 3 Great White Egrets, Marsh Harrier, 2 Stonechats, Corn Bunting.

A male Black Redstart was found at a new build site at Lebberston. The first Swallow of the year flew north over Castle Hill mid-morning. A Red-necked Grebe flew south past Long Nab, a male Snow Bunting was in the field behind the Observatory. In the Mowthorpe Valley: 16 Herons, 5 Mandarins, 8 Common Buzzards and Barn Owl. Eleven Kittiwakes on Spa Bridge at dusk.

A Great White Egret at Star Carr, 12 Tree Sparrows over Seamer tip, plus an increase in Meadow Pipits on the carrs there, at least 38. 700 Herring Gulls heading towards the coast over Falsgrave Park at dusk. A Sanderling in South Bay. A Great White Egret at Wykeham East Lake, also 8 Teal, 21 Goldeneye, 4 Lbb Gulls, 2 Gbb Gulls, 3 Oystercatchers. 170 Kittiwakes rafting along the coast (40 Marine Drive, 130 South Bay). A Purple Sandpiper on the rock armour at Marine Drive. A Red Kite over Cloughton and later Burniston heading SW. Eight Chiffchaffs at Burton Riggs indicated a further arrival. Four Hawfinches again at Thornton-le-Dale church area. A Corn Bunting flew south at Long Nab.

The first Little Ringed Plover of spring was on the silt lagoon at Wykeham East Lake in the afternoon. Three Great White Egret were south of the lakes. Goshawks continue to perform well over Troutsdale. Three Hawfinches at Thornton-le-Dale. Both Great White and Little Egrets at Brompton Butts, and 17 Gadwall, 5 Tufted Ducks, 4 Coot, 2 Little Grebes, Little Egret at Brompton Ponds. Some southerly movements of Kittiwakes at Long Nab; 35 south in 30 minutes. Also 410 Starlings north there. Six Chiffchaffs at Cloughton Saltpans Rd muck heap. At Seamer Rd Mere: 6 Gadwall, 40 Mallard, 39 Tufted Ducks, 2 Goldeneye, 12 Mute Swans (one pair nesting), 25 Coot (2 nesting pairs), 39 Moorhen.

A total of seven Great White Egrets in the area this afternoon; two at Potter Brompton Carr at the same time four were just south of Wykeham Lakes plus one at Star Carr. A Eurasian White-fronted Goose, 29 Goldeneye, and 9 Snipe were at the latter site. A murmuration of 1,500+ Starlings over Brompton village at 6pm. Also at Potter Brompton Carr were 4 Little Egrets, Shelduck, 60 Teal, Marsh Harrier, 6 Snipe and a Brambling. Chiffchaffs are well distributed throughout the district now. At Low Marishes: Whooper Swan, 17 Mute Swans, 2 Little Egrets, 40 Wigeon, 3 Shelduck, 4 Teal. One Hawfinch at Thornton-le-Dale churchyard.

A Willow Tit near Cockmoor Hall car park. A Red Kite flew north over Crossgates mid-afternoon.
