Monday 22nd March
4 Goosanders were on the river in Wrench Green this morning, and in the early hours a skein of Pink-footed Geese were heard over Garfield Road. A White Wagtail flew south at Long Nab and 5 Pink-footed Geese flew north. 4 Great Northen Divers were in South Bay and a White Wagtail flew north through South Cliff. At Brompton Ponds there were 8 Common Gulls, a pair of Oystercatchers, a pair of Gadwall, a pair of Mute Swans on a nest, and 4 pairs of Tufted Duck. A Buzzard flew west over Woodall Avenue, and 3 were seen drifting north over Rowbrow Wood. A Whooper Swan, a Shoveler, 33 Wigeon, 9 Goldeneye, a Great White Egret, a Red Kite and 3 Snipe were at Wykeham Lakes. A single White Wagtail was at Gristhorpe Bay, where there was a notable increase in the number of Pied Wagtails this morning. Also present was a pair of Stonechats, 130 Redshank and a Greenshank on the rocks, 167 Curlew on the beach, and a noticeable movement of Linnets and Meadow Pipits. 56 Whooper Swans flew NW over Staxton. The first Sand Martin of spring was near Low Marishes.
