 A juvenile Roseate Tern flew south past Cornelian Bay this morning, also a Balearic Shearwater south there. Three single Balearic Shearwaters flew north past Long Nab, also 5 Sooty and 101 Manx Shearwaters past, plus a Little Gull, 2 Greenshank, and 2 Little Egrets past. Three Sanderling were still in North Bay. 50 Red-legged Partridges in Suffield, no doubt recent releases for shooting.

 Highlights past Long Nab included an adult Great Northern Diver, and a Short-eared Owl flew in off the sea. A juvenile Caspian Gull was feeding with Herring Gulls in the fields there. Jackson's Bay held 15 Turnstone, 2 Ringed Plover, and a Dunlin. Three Sanderling were in North Bay. Four Garganey were at Potter Brompton Carr, also 116 Teal, 5 gadwall, 6 Shoveler, 520 Greylag Geese, 3 Marsh Harriers, 52 Ruff, 5 Greenshank, LRP, 3 Ringed Plover, Wood Sandpiper, 4 Green Sandpipers, Common Sandpiper, 3 Little Egrets, 2 Great White Egrets, Cuckoo, 18 Yellow Wagtails. A Wheatear on the rock armour at Marine Drive. The Dipper again by the Old Scalby Mills PH. A juv Shelduck, 10 Herons Johnson's Marsh.

 A Great White Egret flew SE past Cayton Bay this evening. Two Garganey still at Potter Brompton Carr, also Little Ringed Plover, Ringed Plover, 2 Curlew, 4 Ruff, Greenshank, Green & Common Sandpipers, 2 Dunlin, Great White Egret, 6 Little Egrets, Cuckoo, 6 Yellow Wagtails. A Hobby over Sand Dale, then Nabgate in Dalby Forest, also 2 Willow Tits. 19 Curlew on Thornton Carrs. Highlights past Long Nab; 17 Whimbrel, 4 Bar-tailed Godwits, juv Mediterranean Gull, 2 Yellow-legged Gulls, 4+ Caspian Gulls, Hobby in off the sea (attacked by Peregrine) flew south, also a flock of 180 House Martins south. A Yellow-legged Gull in Cornelian Bay.  A Kingfisher was on rocks below Long Nab Bird Observatory.

 Highlights past Long Nab today included 2 Great White Egrets, 3 Sooty Shearwaters, and a juvenile Long-tailed Skua north. A juvenile Caspian Gull flew south. A juvenile Marsh Harrier at Seamer Tip. Four Willow Tits at Wrench Green/Northstile. 31 Siskin, Goshawk, 8 Common Buzzards Wykeham Forest. Two Great White Egrets at Potter Brompton Carr left NE (likely the Long Nab birds), 5 Shoveler, 2 Garganey, 2 Marsh Harriers, Greenshank, 2 Ringed Plover, 6 Ruff, 5 Dunlin, 2 Green Sandpipers, 160 Lapwing, Peregrine, 2 Yellow Wagtails, and 2 Reed Warblers. A Short-eared Owl at Stoupe Brow.A Wheatear at the Water Sports Lake, NY Water Park.

 A Short-eared Owl flew west at Jackson's Bay, waders there included 7 Whimbrel, Bar-tailed Godwit, Dunlin, and 10 Ringed Plover. A new brood of Little Grebes at Seamer Tip pool (2 small chicks). Four Willow Warblers in "pipe gully" (just south of Crook Ness).  Four Arctic Terns with Common Terns in Cayton Bay. 35 Common Terns in North Bay this evening.

 One Wood Sandpiper still at Potter Brompton Carr, also a Garganey, Wigeon, 4 Marsh Harriers, 4 Greenshank, 21 Ruff, Common Sandpiper, 6 Dunlin, 3 Ringed Plover, Little Ringed Plover, Redshank, 2 Green Sandpipers, 110 Lapwing, and 2 Yellow Wagtail. Three Ravens flew west from Jackson's Bay. 46 Common Terns, 20 Sandwich Terns, Little Egret and Knot at Scalby Mills. Highlights past Long Nab included a Caspian Gull, 11 Gadwall, 2 Little Egrets, 2 Greenshank, and a Bar-tailed Godwit. A Wood Sandpiper still at Star Carr, plus 2 Ruff, 4 Dunlin, 15 Teal. A Great Skua in North Bay this evening, plus two south past Long Nab. Little Egret Open Air Theatre.

 14 Turtle Doves (5 juvs) at Malton Cote. The Curlew Sandpiper was still at Potter Brompton Carr. Also there the drake Common Scoter, 146 Teal, 24 Shoveler, 3 Wigeon, 2 Garganey, Dunlin, Black-tailed Godwit, 8 Ruff, 34 Snipe, 5 Green Sandpipers, Redshank, 4 Greenshank, Common Sandpiper, Curlew, 11 Little Egrets, 3 Great White Egrets, 4 Marsh Harriers (3 juvs + ad male), 85 House Martins, and 5 Lesser Whitethroats. A Raven flew south over Harwood Dale Forest. Two juvenile Caspian Gulls were around crab boats off Long Nab, a Yellow-legged Gull, 21 Siskin flew south. A Great Skua was attending a feeding frenzie off Cayton Bay. A juv Marsh Harrier flew SE over Seamer. A reduction in waders at Star Carr; 2 Wood Sandpipers, Dunlin, LRP, Ruff, 2 Little Stints, juv Marsh Harrier, Peregrine, Little Grebe.

Star Carr held 2 Little Stints, 4 Dunlin, 7 Ruff, 78 Snipe (Seamer Mead), 3 Wood Sandpipers, 4 Green Sandpipers,  120 Lapwing, Little Ringed Plover, Bar-tailed Godwit (over), juv Marsh Harrier, juv Merlin. A Pied Flycatcher and a Caspian Gull at Lebberston Cliff. Two Wheatears at Long Nab, highlights past included 40 Bar-tailed Godwits (one flock of 38 north), 22 Whimbrel, 30 Turnstones, Caspian Gull, Yellow-legged Gull, Marsh Harrier, and 602 Swallows south. Potter Brompton Carr had a Curlew Sandpiper, 4 Dunlin, 7 Ruff, 3 Black-tailed Godwits, Little Stint, Ringed Plover, 2 LRP, 4 Greenshank, 3 Green Sandpipers,  2 Wood Sandpiper, 2 Wigeon, 84 Teal, 4 Shoveler, 3 Garganey, 400 Greylag Geese, drake Common Scoter, 11 Little Egrets, 4 Great White Egrets, 2 Yellow Wagtails, 4 Marsh Harriers, Peregrine. Two Mandarins Harwood Dale Lake. Shelduck Johnson's Marsh. A second brood of Tufted Ducks (3 ducklings) Seamer Road Mere (prev brood 2 ducklings).

 A drake Common Scoter on a small pool at Potter Brompton Carr. Also there Shelduck, 5 Garganey, 11 Shoveler, 7 Gadwall, 9 Little Egrets, 4 Great White Egrets, 3 Marsh Harriers, Peregrine, 2 Little Stints, 3 Dunlin, 7 Ruff, 4 Black-tailed Godwits, 32 Snipe, 3 Wood Sandpipers, 4 Redshank, 5 Green Sandpipers, 3 Greenshank. Star Carr held three Little Stint, 12 Ruff, 15 Dunlin, 2 Snipe, juv Little Ringed Plover,  three Wood Sandpipers, Curlew, 4 Gadwall, 2 Shoveler,  and one Little Grebe. Highlights past Long Nab included 8 Black-tailed Godwits, Little Egret, Yellow-legged Gull, 4 Wheatears (lingered by the obs before moving south), and 6 Shovelers. Offshore there from The Skylark (3-5 miles out); Blue Fulmar, Little Egret, 2 Ruff, juv Little Gull, 13 Swifts, and a Caspian Gull. An Osprey resting in Sand Dale, Dalby Forest early evening flew towards Ellerburn. A Spotted Flycatcher also in Sand Dale plus one in Haw Dale, Willow Tit in Sieve Dale. 10 Common Terns, 8 Sandwich Terns at Scalby Mills. Eight Common Buzzards around Mowthorpe. A Caspian Gull was off Lebberston Cliff. Great White Egret at Scampston Park.

 The wader fest continues in our area! Star Carr held 3 Little Stints, 53 Ruff, 21 Dunlin, 63 Snipe, 4 Wood Sandpipers, 2 Green Sandpipers, 60 Lapwing, and Golden Plover over. Also there 2 Little Grebes, a Great White Egret, 2 Little Egrets, 2 Shelduck, 2 Shoveler, 25 Teal, Marsh Harrier, 3 Kingfishers, 115 Starling, and 3 Yellow Wagtails. At Potter Brompton Carr; 2 Little Stints, 4 Dunlin, 12 Ruff, a juv LRP, 12 Ringed Plover, 3 Black-tailed Godwit, Wood Sandpiper, 6 Greenshank, 4 Redshank, 2+ Garganey, 4 Marsh Harriers (3 juvs + female), 3 Great White Egrets. 77 Swifts south past Long Nab, and 119 south at Lebberston Cliffs where there was a Little Grebe on the sea, and good numbers of passerines; Spotted Flycatcher, 22 Willow Warblers, 16 Whitethroats, Garden Warbler. Also 6 Grey Partridge and a Marsh Harrier flew south. A Hobby over Forge Valley.

 A ROSY STARLING was at the flood at Star Carr briefly early evening before flying off NW with the Starling flock. Again good numbers of waders there; c60 Ruff,  Curlew Sandpiper, 20 Dunlin, 3 Little Stints, 2 Snipe, 3 Wood Sandpipers, Green Sandpiper, Great White Egret, 7 Teal, Barn Owl. At Cayton Bay (17.45-19.15) movement SE included 23 Oystercatchers, 2 Turnstone, 1 Curlew, plus an adult Mediterranean Gull. Busy at Potter Brompton Carr; 2 juv Little Stints, 22 Ruff, 3 Dunlin, juv Wood Sandpiper, 7 Greenshank, 6 Green Sandpipers, Redshank, 3 Black-tailed Godwits, 41 Snipe, 10 Garganey, 2 Wigeon, 115 Teal, 12 Shoveler, 5 Gadwall, 3 Great White Egrets, 14 Little Egrets, juv Marsh Harrier, 3 Yellow Wagtails, 2 Kingfishers, and a Willow Tit. Highlights past Long Nab this morning; 8 Shoveler, Green Sandpiper, Black Tern, 2 Hobby, 67 Swifts, 463 Swallows, 2 Tree Pipits. A Short-eared Owl in the cover crop left north.

 A first-winter Red-backed Shrike at Lebberston Cliff  today. A Black Tern flew south past Cornelian Bay this morning, also a Whinchat at South Cliff. The Pied Flycatcher was still in Crook Ness gully at Long Nab, also a Grasshopper Warbler at Long Nab, 2 Green Sandpipers flew in off the sea, and southbound were Marsh Harrier, 8 Shoveler, and a Greenshank. A Marsh Harrier at Cayton Bay. Egyptian Goose at Seamer Road Mere, a brood of Tufted Ducks there (2 young). A Green Sandpiper, 2 Oystercatchers at East Lake, NY Water Park. A Spotted Flycatcher on the north side of Castle Hill, plus a family party at Ellerburn. A Common Sandpiper at Scalby Mills, Dunlin plus 6 Ringed Plover at nearby Jackson's Bay.

 The easterly winds brought Pied Flycatchers to Castle Hill, Long Nab, and a park at Heron Lane, Crossgates. Two Little Terns flew south past Cornelian Bay, also 2 Pintail, and juv Yellow-legged Gull flew north. Highlights past Long Nab included 2 Velvet Scoters, Little Egret, Balearic Shearwater, Greenshank, 31 Arctic Skuas, 4 Great Skuas, Yellow-legged Gull, Caspian Gull, and a Hobby. Potter Brompton Carr held 4 Garganey, 12 Little Egrets, 18 Shoveler, 52 Teal, 4 Dunlin, Greenshank, Green Sandpiper, female Marsh Harrier, and 60 Goldfinches. Six Common Sandpipers at Burton Riggs. A Little Egret, 13 Teal, Green Sandpiper, Golden Plover, Dunlin, juv Marsh Harrier, and Kingfisher at Star Carr. A Wheatear at Cloughton Wyke. A Yellow-legged Gull was off Lebberston Cliff.

The Dipper was again by the Old Scalby Mills PH. A Green Sandpiper flew west over Middle Deepdale. A Wheatear at Cromer Point Water Treatment. Highlights past Long Nab included 122 Oystercatchers, bar-tailed Godwit, Great Skua, 18 Arctic Skuas, 3 Little Egrets, 90 Common Terns. A juv Shelduck still at Johnson's Marsh.

 Highlights past Long Nab today included Cory's Shearwater, 7 Sooty Shearwaters, Balearic Shearwater, 170 Oystercatchers, Bar-tailed Godwit, Greenshank, Caspian Gull, 8 Arctic Skuas, and Great Skua. 3,500+ Guillemot/Razorbills feeding offshore there. A record count of 73 Ruff at Star Carr, also Wood Sandpiper, 25 Lapwing, and Little Grebe. Three Common Sandpipers Seamer Road Mere. Potter Brompton Carr held 2 Dunlin, 2 Redshank, Greenshank, 14 Teal, Shoveler, 10 Little Egrets, and 5 Yellow Wagtails. Eider off Marine Drive. Four Oystercatchers, Kingfisher NY Water Park.

Two juvenile Marsh Harriers still around Long Nab. A Wood Sandpiper, 8 Ruff, 4 Snipe, 2 Dunlin, 4 Greenshank, 2 Shoveler, 11 Teal Star Carr. An Osprey at Ellerburn Trout Farm late morning. Large numbers of birds attracted to fish in North Bay this afternoon included 4,000+ Guillemot/Razorbills, plus hundreds of gulls.

Five Greenshank, a Marsh Harrier, and 6 Little Egrets at Potter Brompton Carr. A juvenile Yellow-legged Gull, Common Sandpiper, and 3 Bar-tailed Godwits at Jackson's Bay. Two Marsh Harriers along Long Causeway Road, Wykeham. 19 Tree Sparrows at Ings Bridge. Wood Sandpiper, 3 Black-tailed Godwits, 15 Ruff, 3 Dunlin, 3 Greenshank Star Carr.

 Sooty Shearwater, Yellow-legged Gull, Great Skua, 282 Swallows the highlights past Long Nab. Two Oystercatchers, 2 Cormorants, Lbb Gull, Mandarin at Harwood Dale Lake. Nine Turnstones were roosting at the harbour (high tide), three of which were returning colour ringed birds. A juv Cuckoo flew high south over Scalby Mills, also 5 Sandwich and a Common Tern.

 A fantastic build up of Ruff at Star Carr (SW of Seamer tip) with 36 counted today. Also there were 4 Greenshank, 2 Black-tailed Godwit, Green Sandpiper, Dunlin and a Wheatear. Two Greenshank were on pools at Cayton Carrs. A Wood Sandpiper, 3 Greenshank, 3 Goosanders, Yellow-legged Gull, 779 Swallows, 205 House Martins and 7 flava wagtails south past Long Nab this morning. A Goshawk and 6 Common Buzzards over Troutsdale, also 100+ Swallows feeding there. 50 Swallows at Suffield.

 An adult Roseate Tern flew north past Long Nab this evening. Highlights past there today included two juv Caspian, and a Yellow-legged Gull, 2 Great Skuas north, and a Sooty Shearwater south. Flood water at Star Carr (SW of Seamer tip) held a good selection of waders; Wood Sandpiper, 2 Common Sandpipers, Green Sandpiper, 11 Ruff, Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Redshank, 2 Greenshank, 120 Lapwing, and 1000 Black-headed Gulls. Potter Brompton Carr had 17 Shoveler, 4 Teal, juv Marsh Harrier, 8 Little Egrets. A cc Marsh Harrier flew north over Crossgates. Little Egret Johnson's Marsh.

Jugger Howe Moor had a juvenile Cuckoo, plus a female and juvenile Wheatear. A Little Egret flew north over Burniston. Good numbers of terns moving north past Long Nab this afternoon; 219 Sandwich, 103 Common, 160 Arctic, 80 Common/Arctic. Also 2000+ Kittiwakes flew north.

Three adult and a fledged juvenile Lbb Gull on GT Garage roof. North Yorkshire Water Park had 2 Common Sandpipers on East Lake.

 The first Sooty Shearwater of the year flew north along the coast (seen Cornelian Bay and Long Nab). Also past Long Nab: single Caspian and Yellow-legged Gulls, Grey Plover, 33 Arctic Terns, 2 Great & 2 Arctic Skuas, 23 Puffins. A Little Egret flew north over Crossgates early morning. Three Shoveler were at Johnson's Marsh. Good numbers of warblers along Long Causeway Road; 19 Willow Warblers, 26 Chiffchaffs, 6 Whitethroats, 7 Blackcap, 1 Garden Warbler, also 5 Marsh Tits and 19 Mistle Thrushes. Six Tree Sparrows at Ings Bridge. Two Lbb Gulls on Tennyson Avenue rooftops.

 Lots of seawatching today saw a busy sea with many displaced; Long Nab saw 99 Manx Shearwaters, 340 Sandwich & 185 Arctic Terns, 21 Arctic Skuas, Great Skua, Caspian and 2 Yellow-legged Gulls, 2 Grey Plovers, 4155 Gannets. A Purple Sandpiper flew past South Cliff. The juvenile Cuckoo was still along Rocks Lane, Burniston. Potter brompton Carr held 6 Garganey, 8 Wigeon, 2 Shoveler, 80 Lapwing, 8 Little Egrets, and a cc Marsh Harrier. 4 Mandarins, 4 Shoveler, 50 Lapwing, 4 Oystercatchers, 30 Swallows at Harwood Dale Lake. A Spotted Flycatcher, 15 Tree Sparrows at the Mill Inn, Harwood Dale.

 A first-summer Sabine's Gull flew close (this side of near flag line) north past Long Nab at 18.55 hrs. A juvenile Caspian Gull flew south there this evening. A juv Caspian Gull, and a juv Yellow-legged Gull feeding in South Bay.  Good numbers of waders moving south along the coast this morning; 2 Bar-tailed Godwits, 22 Whimbrel, 55 Knot, 62 Redshank, 55 Dunlin, 20 Sanderling, 16 Turnstone (combined South Cliff/Long Nab min totals). 690 Common Scoter also north past Long Nab. Tuesday 1st August

Juvenile Caspian Gulls continue to feature, one off Long Nab and two in South Bay this morning, also a juvenile Yellow-legged Gull at the latter site, plus a Common Sandpiper, and four Crossbills flew NW. Long Nab also witnessed waders arriving off the sea; 8 Golden Plover, 3 Greenshank, and a Green Sandpiper. The Little Egret had moved to Peasholm Park Lake this morning. The Grey Heron roost at Johnson's Marsh had reach 18 birds today. 75+ House Martins feeding over woodland at Cayton Bay early evening.
