Migration watch; 08.24 - 11.40hrs.
On the move (north unless stated) were 2 Common Gull, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 1 Collared Dove south, 1 Swallow + 1 south, 1 Flava, 5 Alba, 2 Goldfinch south, 6 Linnet and 1 Reed Bunting.
Two Yellow Wagtail, 2 Grasshopper Warbler, 4 Whitethroat, 4 Blackcap, 5 Chiffchaff and 120 Linnet were in the Long Nab area.
At Wykeham South Lake there were 2 Common Sandpiper, 6 Dunlin, 1 Gadwall, 25 Swallow, 65 Sand Martin and 40 House Martin, 4 Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Little Ringed Plover, 1 Curlew, 8 Lapwing, 3 Shelduck and 1 Wheatear were on Potter Brompton Carr (no general access), a Coot was in the Open Air Thearter, 7 Dunlin and 3 Teal were on Scalby Lodge Pond, the Scaup remained on Peasholm Park and 2 Shelduck and a Little Ringed Plover were on Mayville Flash.

On the move (south unless stated) were 3 Fulmar north, 1 Common Buzzard, 1 ROUGH-LEGGED BUZZARD at 08.47hrs, 1 Kestrel, 1 Ringed Plover + 2 north, 3 Sand Martin, 1 House Martin, 2 Flava, 1 Alba north, 2 Goldfinch and 5 Linnet + 11 north.
A single Willow Warbler was grounded at Long Nab.
Elsewhere a Snipe was on Johnson's Marsh, 3 Teal and a Dunlin were on Scalby Lodge Pond, 14 Purple Sandpiper, 1 Turnstone and a Shag were in the Harbour, 2 Little Ringed Plover, 3 Yellow Wagtail and a White Wagtail were on Potter Brompton Carr (no general access) and 3 Shelduck were on Mayville Flash.

On the move (south unless stated) were 1 Great Black-backed Gull north, 2 Sandwich Tern north, 5 Swallow and 7 Linnet.
A Bar-tailed Godwit, a Dunlin, a Common Sandpiper and 4 Little Ringed Plover were at Wykeham South Lake, 3 Stonechat and a Whinchat were on Jugger Howe Moor, the Scaup remained in Peasholm Park and 2 Shelduck, 3 Teal and a Dunlin were at Scalby Lodge Pond.

On the move (north unless stated) were 1 Red-throated Diver, 81 Fulmar, 1 Manx Shearwater, 169 Gannet + 14 south, 1 Cormorant, 1 Tufted Duck, 1 Common Scoter + 1 south, 2 Common Buzzard east, 1 Whimbrel, 8 Common Gull south, 10 Great Black-backed Gull, 7 Sandwich Tern south, 289 Auk sp + 48 south, 2 Sand Martin, 3 Swallow + 1 south, 4 Meadow Pipit, 1 Alba south, 6 Carrion Crow + 2 south, 2 Chaffinch, 1 Goldfinch south and 34 Linnet + 5 south.
Also in the Long Nab area were 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 1 Whitethroat, 2 Blackcap, 6 Chiffchaff and 2 Willow Warbler.
The Scaup remained on Peasholm Park, 3 Egyptian Geese, 5 Shelduck, 4 Snipe, 3 Whitethroat, 2 Reed Warbler and 4 Sedge Warbler were on Potter Brompton Carr (no general access), a Redshank was at Wykeham South Lake and a Wheatear was at Scalby Lodge Pond.

On the move (south unless stated) were 2 Fulmar + 4 north, 1 Cormorant + 2 north, 2 Greylag Geese north, 2 Oystercatcher north, 4 Ringed Plover north, 1 Snipe north, 1 Whimbrel north, 27 Common Gull, 4 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 5 Great Black-backed Gull + 1 north, 1 Sandwich Tern north, 10 Sand Martin, 11 Swallow, 1 House Martin + 3 north, 5 Flava + 2 north, 5 Alba, 26 Carrion Crow north, 3 Goldfinch and 47 Linnet + 1 north.
Migrants in the Long Nab area included 4 Wheatear, 2 Song Thrush, 8 Whitethroat, 6 Blackcap, 5 Chiffchaff, 6 Willow Warbler and 2 Goldcrest.
What was presumably the same Glaucous Gull seen yesterday was found briefly at the Mere before flying off east, a Red Kite, a Bar-tailed Godwit, 2 Common Sandpiper, a female Common Scoter, 48 Swallow, 26 Sand Martin, 1 House Martin, 2 Egyptian Geese were at Wykeham South Lake where a Dunlin flew east. Three Lesser Whitethroat were at Charm Park, a Lesser Whitethroat and 2 Whitethroat were at Holbeck and 4 Turnstone were in the Harbour.

On the move (south unless stated) were 5 Cormorant + 5 north, 3 Greylag Geese, 2 Tufted Duck, 1 Golden Plover north, 1 Curlew north, 1 2nd cy Glaucous Gull, 1 Sandwich Tern north, 2 Sand Martin, 2 Swallow + 1 north, 1 Meadow Pipit, 1 Flava, 2 Alba, 20 Carrion Crow + 16 north, 6 Goldfinch and 5 Linnet + 30 north.
Migrants in the Long Nab area included 2 Yellow Wagtail, 2 Whitethroat, 3 Blackcap, 4 Chiffchaff and 1 Willow Warbler.
Elsewhere a Green Sandpiper was on Johnson's Marsh, 2 Little Ringed Plover were on Scalby Lodge Pond where a Fieldfare arrived in from the southeast, 4 Little Ringed Plover, a Redshank and a Common Sandpiper were at Wykeham South Lake, 40 Sand Martin and 10 Swallow were at Harwood Dale and a Cuckoo and a Green Woodpecker were seen at Low North Camp.

Migrants seen between Scalby Beck and Long Nab included 1 Little Ringed Plover, 1 Green Sandpiper, 1 White Wagtail, 3 Blackcap, 3 Whitethroat, 1 Lesser Whitethroat and 5 Chiffchaff.
Elsewhere a White Wagtail was at Harwood Dale Lake, 8 Snipe, 1 Redhank, 2 Yellow Wagtail, 15 Fieldfare, 1 Whitethroat, 6 Blackcap, 17 Willow Warbler and a Willow Tit were at Potter Brompton Carr (no general access), a Dunlin was in North Bay and the drake Scaup remained on Peasholm Park.

Another fairly quiet day, Lesser Whitethroats were recorded in Hutton Buscel and Johnson's Marsh and Cuckoos were recorded at Helwath Beck and Grouse Hill, a pair of Stonechat were on Penny Howe Moor, 4 Little Ringed Plover, a Common Sandpiper and a Whitethroat were at Wykeham South Lake, a Green Woodpecker was at Ravensacr and an Egyptian Goose, 2 Shelduck, 2 Teal, 33 Lapwing, 1 Snipe and 3 Yellow Wagtail were at Potter Brompton Carr (no general access).
On the move (north unless stated) were 1 Cormorant south, 2 Eider, 1 Common Buzzard, 8 Snipe south, 1 Black-headed Gull, 6 Sandwich Tern + 2 south, 2 Sand Martin, 2 Swallow + 5 south, 2 Alba.

On the move (south unless stated) were 2 Cormorant, 1 Marsh Harrier north, 1 Sparrowhawk, 3 Kestrel north, 1 Whimbrel north, 3 Curlew north, 7 Common Gull + 23 north, 1 Sandwich Tern + 7 north, 12 Sand Martin + 17 north, 16 Swallow + 7 north, 1 House Martin, 2 Jackdaw, 11 Carrion Crow + 22 north, 6 Goldfinch + 2 north and 131 Linnet + 10 north.
Migrants in the Long Nab area included singles of Wheatear and Whitethroat, 2 Blackcap, 7 Chiffchaff and 1 Willow Warbler, a Red-breasted Merganser was seen offshore.
Elsewhere the first Garden Warbler was found in Wykeham Forest, the Garganey was still on Johnson's Marsh, 2 Egyptian Geese, 2 Gadwall, 5 House Martin, a White Wagtail, 2 Yellow Wagtail and a Willow Tit were at Potter Brompton Carr (no general access), 2 Pink-footed Geese were at Wykeham South Lake and 2 Shelduck, a Little Ringed Plover and 3 Curlew were on Mayville Flash.

Four Bottlenose Dolphin were seen heading north past Marine Drive at 15.55hrs and were later seen off Long Nab.

A quiet day on the 18th produced the Garganey on Johnson's Marsh and a Wheatear at Scalby Lodge Pond.

Additions to the year list were Whitethroat at Jugger Slack and a Cuckoo in the Scar Wood area where there were also 2 Wheatear.
On the move (south unless stated) were 11 Greylag Geese + 2 north, 5 Sand Martin, 24 Swallow, 1 House Martin north, 2 Carrion Crow north, 3 Rook, 17 Linnet + 24 north and 7 Goldfinch + 9 north.
Elsewhere a Red Kite was seen over Howdale Moor, the Bar-tailed Godwit was still in Jackson's Bay, the Red-breasted Merganser was at Scalby Mills, 2 Shelduck and 5 Teal were on Scalby Lodge Pond and 8 recently fledged Mallards were on Scalby Beck.

On the move (north unless stated) were 1 Cormorant south, 3 Mute Swan in off and south, 1 Common Scoter south, 1 Osprey north wast at 13.55hrs, 3 Kestrel, 2 Lapwing, 1 Whimbrel, 1 Curlew + 3 south, 1 Great Black-backed Gull, 2 Stock Dove south, 4 Sand Martin + 3 south, 4 Swallow south, 13 Meadow Pipit + 4 south, 1 Rock Pipit south, 6 Alba south, 2 Magpie south, 19 Carrion Crow + 14 south, 1 Tree Sparrow, 1 Chaffinch and 116 Linnet + 49 south.
In the Long Nab area were 1 White Wagtail, the first Tree Pipit of the year, 1 Blackcap, 7 Chiffchaff, 2 Goldcrest and 220 Linnet.
The Garganey was still on Johnson's Marsh, the Bar-tailed Godwit remained in Jackson's Bay and 4 Egyptian Geese, 2 Little Ringed Plover and a Common Sandpiper were at Wykeham South Lake.

Migration watch; 07.35 - 10.40hrs.
On the move (south unless stated) were 13 Swallow + 1 north, 21 Sand Martin, 8 Meadow Pipit, 7 Goldfinch + 1 north and 12 Linnet + 18 north.
A few migrants arrived along the coast with 12 Wheatear between Long Nab and Castle Hill, a male Ring Ouzel at Ravenscar with a further 2 along South Cliff. The only other noted migrant was a Willow Warbler in Style Scrub.
The Garganey, 2 Shoveler and 9 Teal were on Johnson's Marsh, the Red-breasted Merganser was at Scalby Mills, 2 Sandwich Tern were in North Bay, 2 Little Ringed Plover were at Seamer Tip, a Bar-tailed Godwit was in Jackson's Bay, 2 Little Grebe, a Common Sandpiper, a Goldeneye and a Wheatear were at Wykeham South Lake, the Scaup was still at Peasholm, 32 Purple Sandpiper were in the Harbour and 2 Little Ringed Plover, 2 Shoveler and 4 Shelduck were on Scalby Lodge Pond.

The Garganey remained on Johnson's Marsh along with 2 Shoveler, 6 Wheatear, a Little Ringed Plover and 2 Dunlin were on Scalby lodge Pond, a White Wagtail and a Red-breasted Merganser were at Scalby Mills, 3 Chiffchaff were on Castle Hill and a Willow Warbler was in Peasholm Park.

The female Common Scoter was still present on Wykeham South Lake where there were 2 Wigeon, the Garganey was still present on Johnson's Marsh along with 5 Teal and a Redshank, 2 Shoveler, 2 Teal and 2 Dunlin were on Scalby Lodge Pond, a Willow Warbler and a Goldcrest were in Newlands Dale, several Blackcaps were singing in Forge Valley, 4 Lesser Black-backed Gulls were at Scalby Mills and 2 Shelduck flew south off Marine Drive.

Two Common Sandpiper on Wykeham South Lake were the first of the year, also present there were 5 Egyptian Geese, 2 Pink-footed Geese, 2 Shoveler, 1 Gadwall, 1 female Common Scoter, 1 Goldeneye, 45 Swallow, 25 Sand Martin, 1 House Martin and 1 Willow Warbler.
On the move (south unless stated) were 1 Red-throated Diver north, 2 Fulmar + 3 north, 24 Gannet + 48 north, 1 Cormorant + 1 north, 2 Common Scoter + 1 north, 1 Black-headed Gull, 20 Common Gull + 3 north, 11 Lesser Black-backed Gull north, 7 Great Black-backed Gull + 3 north, 2 Sandwich Tern north, 5 Auk sp + 10 north, 2 Alba, 3 Siskin north and 27 Linnet + 6 north.
Migrants seen between Ravenscar and South Cliff were 1 Little Ringed Plover (Scalby Lodge Pond), 2 Dunlin, 15 Wheatear (8 Ravenscar, 1 Long Nab, 6 Scalby Lodge), 1 Willow Warbler (Crook Ness) and 14 Chiffchaff.
The Garganey, 2 Shoveler, 10 Teal and a Redshank were on Johnson's Marsh, at Rudda Road Flash there were 20 Golden Plover, 2 Willow Warbler were in Wykeham Forest, 2 Shelduck and 4 Swallow were at Harwood Dale Lake and 5 Shelduck were at Scalby Lodge Pond.

Migration watch; 07.30 - 09.45hrs.
An Osprey was seen early morning over the fishing ponds at Wykeham South Lake but wasn't seen again during the day. Also in the area there were 2 Red Kite, 2 Goldeneye, 2 Little Ringed Plover, 25 Swallow and 20 Sand Martin.
The years first Reed Warbler was at Charm Park where a Merlin was also seen, the years first 2 male Yellow Wagtail were on Potter Brompton Carr (no general access) along with 2 Egyptian Geese, 2 Shelduck, 1 Little Ringed Plover, 1 White Wagtail and 15 Pied Wagtail, the drake Garganey was still present but had moved over the road to Johnson's Marsh where it was joined by a pair of Shoveler.
On the move (south unless stated) were 1 Red-throated Diver, 3 Fulmar + 3 north, 40 Gannet + 15 north, 1 Curlew, 2 Black-headed Gull, 126 Common Gull + 3 north, 3 Lesser Black-backed Gull + 2 north, 4 Great Black-backed Gull, 10 Auk sp + 3 north, 1 Sand Martin, 4 Meadow Pipit, 3 Starling and 2 Linnet.

Some belated news from yesterday, two Avocet were seen on Wykeham South Lake.

Two more species made it on to the year list, a Willow Warbler at Wykeham South Lake and a cracking drake Garganey on Scalby Lodge Pond.
On the move (south unless stated) were 1 Red-throated Diver, 1 Fulmar + 7 north, 1 Cormorant north, 1 Grey Heron north, 2 Shelduck, 1 Golden Plover north, 39 Common Gull + 1 north, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 14 Auk sp + 15 north, 15 Sand Martin + 5 north, 5 Swallow + 1 north, 3 Meadow Pipit + 16 north, 6 Alba + 1 north, 10 Carrion Crow + 16 north, 16 Goldfinch and 183 Linnet + 26 north.
Grounded migrants between Long Nab and Castle Hil were 2 male Ring Ouzel (1 Long Nab, 1 Castle Hill), 8 Chiffchaff and 1 Goldcrest.

Elsewhere 2 Snipe and a Jack Snipe were at Seamer Tip, the drake Scaup was still at Peasholm Park, 5 Little Ringed Plover, 2 Goldeneye, 6 Sand Martin and 2 Swallow were at Wykeham South Lake, a single Little Ringed Plover was on Rudda Road Falsh and 5 Teal, 2 Shelduck and a Redshank were on Johnson's Marsh.
Other grounded migrants seen along the coast were 5 Chiffchaff at Long Nab, 1 White Wagtail at Scalby Lodge Pond and 1 Blackcap on Castle Hill.

A pod of around 15 Bottlenose Dolphin passed south at Long Nab at 08.40am and were later seen passing Marine Drive.

At Wykeham South Lake there were 3 female Common Scoter, 2 Goldeneye, 30 Teal, 2 Shelduck, a Sand Martin and a singing Willow Tit, the drake Scaup remained on Peasholm Park, a colour ringed Sanderling was in Jackson's Bay, 2 Shleduck and a Wigeon were on Scalby Lodge Pond, a Red-breasted Merganser was at Scalby Mills, a Swallow and 3 Sand Martin were seen at the Mere, a Little Egret was at Seamer Tip, a White Wagtail was at Rudda Road Flash, 12 Teal, 2 Tufted Duck, 2 Snipe, a Redshank, 2 Oystercatcher and a Swallow were at Johnson's Marsh and a Swallow and 2 Gadwall were at Harwood Dale Lake.

Another good early spring day with another year tick in the shape of a Firecrest at Long Nab.

On the move there (north unless stated) were 1 Cormorant south, 1 Sparrowhawk south, 2 Common Buzzard south, 1 Kestrel south, 1 Sand Martin, 1 Swallow south, 155 Meadow Pipit, 1 Alba south, 6 Jackdaw + 4 south, 4 Rook + 12 south, 16 Carrion Crow + 29 south, 7 Chaffinch, 4 Greenfinch, 9 Goldfinch + 1 south and 24 Linnet + 21 south.

Its felt like an age for Sand Martin to make an appearance this year and today it finally did with a single at Wykeham South Lake. While it is 7 days later than last years its a whole 8 days earlier than in 2013.
Also there were 2 Egyptian Geese, 2 Pink-footed Geese, 4 Goldeneye and the first Black-tailed Godwit of the year.
Other firsts for the year were a cracking Water Pipit at Long Nab, an early Lesser Whitethroat in Scalby and a Swallow at Flixton Carr.
Other migrants seen along the coast were 2 Snipe, 20 Meadow Pipit, 7 Goldcrest and 2 Chiffchaff at Long Nab and a Chifchaff and 27 Redwing out east at Castle Hill
Elsewhere a Short-eared Owl and a Jack Snipe were at Seamer Tip, a Red Kite was seen in Scampston, 4 Teal, 18 Purple Sandpiper and an adult Mediterranean Gull were in Cornelian Bay, 4 Tufted Duck, 2 Gadwall and a Snipe were on Harwood Dale Lake and 5 Tufted Duck flew south off Marine Drive.

The highlight of the day was an Avocet (the first since 2013) first seen on Mayville Flash, Cayton Carr, before relocating to Wykeham South Lake for a while before heading off west at 12.30hrs.
Also at Wykeham South Lake were 2 Pink-footed and 2 Egyptian Geese, 25 Teal, 3 Gadwall and 2 Little Ringed Plover while on Mayville Flash there were 2 Shelduck and 8 Teal.
A drake Common Scoter was on Burton Riggs, 4 Goldcrest were along South Cliff and 2 Gadwall, 2 Shelduck, 4 Teal, 21 Lapwing, 3 Curlew and 9 Pied Wagtail were on Potter Brompton Carr (no general access).

Yet another slow day. Four Egyptian Geese, 2 Pink-footed Geese, 2 Goldeneye, 8 Oystercatcher and 2 Little Ringed Plover were at Wykeham South Lake, a Goosander, a Red-breasted Merganser and 6 Red-throated Diver were in Cornelian Bay while the only hint of migrant passerines along the coast was a Reed Bunting along South Cliff.

A very quiet day, at Wykeham South Lake there were 4 Egyptian Geese, 4 Wigeon, 2 Goldeneye, 1 Little Ringed Plover and 6 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 2 Gadwall were on Harwood Dale Lake, 8 Wigeon and 8 Teal were on Johnson's Marsh, 4 Teal, 3 Redshank and 4 Curlew were on Mayville Flash and 21 Curlew were on Flixton Carr.

At Potter Brompton Carr the female Scaup remained, also there were 6 Pintail, 2 Wigeon, 2 Shelduck, 18 Snipe, 1 Jack Snipe, 1 White Wagtail, 7 Chiffchaff and 2 Willow Tit. Two Shelduck and 4 Teal were on Mayville Flash, a White Wagtail was at Folkton sewage works, 3 Goosander and 8 Purple Sandpiper were in Cayton Bay, 2 Goldeneye, a Pink-footed Goose, 2 Little Ringed Plover and 50 Fieldfare flew north at Wykeham South Lake and the Barnacle Goose, a Gadwall, 2 Teal and 3 Tufted Duck were at Seamer Tip.

The month began with some late news of a Red Kite seen over Ravenscar Golf Course on 12th March.
The first two Little Ringed Plover of the year were seen on Wykeham South Lake where there were also 9 Great Crested Grebe, 1 drake Pintail and 9 Goldeneye, the drake Scaup was still on Peasholm Park, 17 Teal, 5 Wigeon and 2 Snipe were on Johnson's Marsh, a Barnacle Goose was at Seamer Tip and 5 Chiffchaff were in Newlands Dale.
