Monday 21st August

 A ROSY STARLING was at the flood at Star Carr briefly early evening before flying off NW with the Starling flock. Again good numbers of waders there; c60 Ruff,  Curlew Sandpiper, 20 Dunlin, 3 Little Stints, 2 Snipe, 3 Wood Sandpipers, Green Sandpiper, Great White Egret, 7 Teal, Barn Owl. At Cayton Bay (17.45-19.15) movement SE included 23 Oystercatchers, 2 Turnstone, 1 Curlew, plus an adult Mediterranean Gull. Busy at Potter Brompton Carr; 2 juv Little Stints, 22 Ruff, 3 Dunlin, juv Wood Sandpiper, 7 Greenshank, 6 Green Sandpipers, Redshank, 3 Black-tailed Godwits, 41 Snipe, 10 Garganey, 2 Wigeon, 115 Teal, 12 Shoveler, 5 Gadwall, 3 Great White Egrets, 14 Little Egrets, juv Marsh Harrier, 3 Yellow Wagtails, 2 Kingfishers, and a Willow Tit. Highlights past Long Nab this morning; 8 Shoveler, Green Sandpiper, Black Tern, 2 Hobby, 67 Swifts, 463 Swallows, 2 Tree Pipits. A Short-eared Owl in the cover crop left north.
