 Three House Martins south over Burniston are very likely the same seen inland from Long Nab. A good movement of Whooper Swans; 71 south past Long Nab, some of which were seen further south along the coast. Pink-footed Geese were again on the move; 300 over Cayton Carrs, 110 south over Burniston, 250 over Scalby Mills and 510 south at Long Nab. Seven Goosanders also flew south at the latter site. A single Goosander was at Seamer Road Mere. 15 Curlews near Flatts Farm, burniston. 100+ Lapwing at Staxton Carr. At Scalby Mills; 40 Wigeon, 3 Ringed Plovers, and 3 Turnstones.

Monday 21st October

 Four Whooper Swans in a stubble field at Long Nab this afternoon, six flew south (also seen over Cromer Point and Scalby Mills). Also a Sandwich Tern feeding off Long Nab that eventually drifted south, 2 Little Gulls moved south, 900 Pink-footed Geese past, and 3 Twite flew north along the cliffs. Two Red-throated Divers offshore plus 2 in North Bay.

 A day of strong southerlies and rain. Seawatching at Long Nab was slow; 3 Arctic Skuas and 106 Little Gulls past the highlight. At Johnson's Marsh; 36 Teal, 4 Wigeon, 3 Grey Partridge, 15 Redwing. At Scalby Mills; 12 Ringed Plover, Redshank, Curlew, 3 Turnstone, 34 Gbb Gulls, 20 Wigeon, Dipper, Rock Pipit. A WeBS count at Seamer Road Mere: 9 Little Grebes, 22 Gadwall, 48 Mallard, Teal, 20 Tufted Ducks, 97 Moorhens, 51 Coot, Water Rail, 17 Cormorants, 25 Mute Swans, 1cy Mediterranean Gull.

 Yellow-browed Warblers at Long Nab and Burniston. At Thornton Carrs: 110 Pink-footed Geese, 2 Little Egrets, 55 Yellowhammers. South past Long Nab: 2 Whooper Swans, Purple Sandpiper, Arctic Tern, and 114 Little Gulls. A Purple Sandpiper and 20 Turnstone at Black Rocks, South Bay. Single Bramblings at Riggs Head and North Yorkshire Water Park. Also at the latter site: 6 Grey Partridge, 78 Teal, 5 Gadwall, Goosander, 22 Moorhen, 14 Coot, Snipe, 2 Sand Martins,  2 Chiffchaffs, 6 Tree and 15 House Sparrows (stubble by entrance). A Kingfisher on rocks at Marine Drive.

 Two Chiffchaffs and 2 Goldcrests were in Sycarham Wood. 50 Gadwall, 4 Wigeon at Seamer tip pool. 15 House Martins flew south over Burniston this afternoon. Highlights past Long Nab included a Great White Egret high north, 1635 Pink-footed Geese (675S, 960N), 7 Whooper Swans, 119 Skylarks, House Martin, 188 Meadow Pipits, 44 Tree Sparrows. 70 Pink-footed Geese SE over Crossgates.

 New Yellow-browed Warblers were at Long Nab and Scalby Mills. A Barnacle Goose was in a field at Cloughton Wyke, later seen flying south at Long Nab. Also south at Long Nab were 267 Skylarks, 2 Swallows, and 9 Brambling. Two Fieldfares flew west. A Green Sandpiper, 2 Wigeon, and 10 Teal at East Lake (NY Water Park). Three Snipe in stubble at Charm Park. 32 Tree Sparrows flew south at South cliff. A Water Rail in Wykeham Forest near the old nurseries.

 An arrival of continental thrushes throughout the area today. Generally small numbers involved, 100+ Redwings over Wrench Green, and 110 at Long Nab, and 170 over North Yorkshire Water Park the largest numbers reported. Also at Long Nab were 35 Blackbirds, 40 Song Thrushes, two Ring Ouzels, and a Fieldfare. Highlights moving past were 11 Dark-bellied Brent Geese, 2 Pintail, 6 Red-breasted Mergansers, 3 Little Gulls, a Mediterranean Gull, and 590+ Starlings south. A Raven flew north, perhaps the same bird at Rodger Trod later. A Chiffchaff and a Blackcap in the plantations. A Shoveler, 25 Teal at East Lake, NY Water Park. A Litte Grebe on a field flash at Hood Lane, Cloughton. 20 Meadow Pipits Hood Lane - Rodger Trod. A Little Egret, 10 Grey Herons and a Little Grebe at Ellerburn. A Corn Bunting and a Brambling at Nabgate, Dalby Forest. A redhead Goosander at Johnson's Marsh.

 Highlights from this morning's seawatch at Long Nab included a good selection of wildfowl, of most interest were 3 Pintail, 6 Eiders, 5 Tufted Duck, and a Red-breasted Merganser. Four Arctic Skuas, and two Long-tailed Skuas, one of which joined a small Common Gull flock offshore for 20 minutes to dip-feed. Also past were 10 Little Gulls and 2 Arctic Terns. A small increase in thrushes there including 16 Redwing, plus a Brambling. A little inland Redwings were observed moving west, incl 60 over Burniston. A Stonechat at Thornton Carrs. 35 Wigeon at Scalby Mills. A Jay flew north over Crossgates.

The Yellow-browed Warbler was again in a Burniston garden. Good numbers of Pink-footed Geese were on the move today; 603+ past Long Nab (173S, 430N), 160 south at Cayton Bay, 30 west over Crossgates. The Great White Egret was in Burniston Bay this morning, moving to Johnson's Marsh at noon before returning towards the coast. Also south past Long Nab were 6 Whooper Swans, 7 Arctic & 2 Common Terns. A Hooded Crow was seen at Gristhorpe village, also 10 Redwing there. 23 Wigeon were at Scalby Mills. A Raven flew SW over Crossgates, 3 Common Buzzards over burton Riggs.  A Redwing at Peasholm Glen. Three Chiffchaffs at Sycarham Wood.

 A Yellow-browed Warbler was in a Burniston garden this morning. A Goosander at Scalby Mills, where the male Snow Bunting is still present on the sea wall opposite the Sea Life Centre. The moulting adult Red-throated Diver still in the harbour. A late House Martin at Wrench Green. A Jay flew over Long Lane, Crossgates, a noticeable increase in Blackbirds around Burton Riggs. 50 Pink-footed Geese and two Whooper Swans flew south over Cayton Bay. Highlights past Long Nab included 35 Pink-footed Geese, 7 Arctic Skuas, 4 Arctic Terns, and a Great White Egret south at 10;10am. Five Whooper Swans south over North Cliff golf course. At Potter Brompton Carr; 38 Whooper & 16 Mute Swans, 3 Great White Egrets, 2 Little Egrets, 3 Marsh Harriers, Gadwall, 19 Snipe, 2 Redwing, and a Stonechat.

 Highlights past Long Nab this morning included a Black-throated Diver flying north, 160 Pink-footed Geese, Red-breasted Merganser, Goosander, Pale-bellied Brent Goose, 3 Little Egrets, 9 Little Gulls, Mediterranean Gull, 3 Arctic Terns, 6 Arctic Skuas. A herd of c40 Whooper Swans were at Willerby Carr, a further two flew south over North Yorkshire Water Park. A Marsh Harrier, Mediterranean Gull, and a Little Egret at Cayton Carrs. A male Brambling at Cayton Bay. The Red-throated Diver still in the harbour, four feeding off Long Nab. The Snow Bunting was still by the Sea Life Centre. A Hobby arrived off the sea at Holbeck and continued south.

 A Yellow-browed Warbler was found at Sycarham Wood, Cloughton Wyke, also 2 Chiffchaffs, 3 Goldcrests, 3 Jays, 2 Stonechats there. At East Lake, NY Water Park: Little Egret, Lapwing, 23 Wigeon, 96 Mallard, 13 Tufted Duck, Great Crested Grebe. The Snow Bunting was still at Scalby Mills. Highlights past Long Nab today included a Grey Phalarope north @ 11:38, 54 Whooper Swans south (incl a flock also seen over town), Arctic Tern, 131 Little Gulls, 402 Kittiwakes, Sandwich Tern, 6 Arctic and a Pomarine Skua.

 The cool northerlies continued but the sea didn't quite deliver the expected birds. Highlights past Long Nab included a Great Northern Diver, 6 Velvet Scoters (both also past Marine Drive), 3 Red-breasted Mergansers, 4 Arctic Terns, 9 Arctic Skuas, 6 Little Gulls, and 9 Mediterranean Gulls. A Sandwich Tern was seen past Marine Drive. The Snow Bunting was still at Scalby Mills. A Red-throated Diver in the harbour. A Swallow flew south at Burniston. 56 Gadwall at Seamer tip pool. 80 Linnets at Taylor Way. Chiffchaff, 2 Redwings at Burton Riggs.

 A stiff cool northerly affected a few seabirds today. A first-winter Common Tern was at the harbour. A seawatch at Long Nab saw a small skua movement with one juvenile Long-tailed Skua, 6 Arctic Skuas, and a sub-adult Pomarine Skua all moving south. Also south were a Mediterranean Gull, 72 Red-throated Divers and a Pale-bellied Brent Goose. 320 Feral Pigeon at Cromer Point. Seven Redwing flew SW over Burniston. At East Lake, NY Water Park; Greenshank, 3 female/immature Common Scoters, 2 Gadwall, 2 Teal. The male Snow Bunting was still around the sea wall opposite the Sea Life Centre. 15 Mistle Thrushes at Wrench Green. 430 Pink-footed Geese, 2 Great White Egrets, 2 Little Egrets, 3 Marsh Harriers, Stonechat, and Rock Pipit at Potter Brompton Carr.

 The Snow Bunting was still at Scalby Mills around the sea wall, two Sandwich Terns were also still there. A Chiffchaff was singing at Burton Riggs, 60+ Carrion Crows in an adjacent plantation. Four Redwings were new arrivals at Long Nab. South past there were 4 Barnacle Geese, 2 Mediterranean Gulls, an Arctic Terns, and 3 Arctic Skuas. A Red Kite on road kill at Wykeham.

The Pallas's Warbler was still at Long Nab (5th day), in an area with no general access. Also there a late Spotted Flycatcher. Eleven Whooper Swans, 100 Pink-footed Geese (65 north), and a Jay flew south. At Potter Brompton Carr; Little Egret, Marsh Harrier, and a Jay. 48 Gadwall at Seamer Tip pools. A Pink-footed Goose, 211 Canada Geese, 177 Greylag Geese at Burton Riggs. Ten Teal in Cloughton Wyke. The Snow Bunting was again on the sea wall at Scalby Mills, also 2 Sandwich Terns on the rocks.

 Bird of the day was a Hoopoe seen flying south at Cayton Bay, following the cliffs at 10:31am. The Pallas's Warbler,  and one Yellow-browed Warbler still at Long Nab. Highlights past included 4 Pintail, Pochard, 3 Great White Egrets, Little Egret, Merlin, 6 Knot, 7 Sandwich Terns, 11 Little Gulls, and a Sooty Shearwater. 350 Pink-footed Geese flew south over Gristhorpe, 5 over Peasholm, 65 over Allerston, and 508 past Long Nab. Two Lbb Gulls were at East Lake, North Yorkshire Water Park. Two Great White Egrets flew east over Hopper Hill Road. Chiffchaff, and Redwing over Seamer tip. A Snow Bunting was seen on the sea wall at Scalby Mills at 09.20am.

 The Pallas's Warbler and 2 Yellow-browed Warblers were in the plantations at Long Nab. Two Lapland Buntings flew south, and a Marsh Harrier north. Lots of Pink-footed Geese on the move again; 352 past Long Nab (moving north and south), 70 south over Gristhorpe, 1050 (14 skeins, most south) past Gristhorpe Bay, and 35 NE over Seamer tip. Five Goldcrests in a Burniston garden. A new Yellow-browed Warbler in South Bay near The Spa. A Wheatear on the rockfall at Marine Drive. A Kingfisher at the coarse Lake, NY Water Park.

 Highlight of the day was at Little Bunting at Long Nab, seen briefly on the cliff top south of the observatory, and quickly left south along the cliffs, after giving several calls. The Pallas's Leaf Warbler, and two Yellow-browed Warblers were still present. A Redwing appeared in the plantations then left west. A good movement of Pink-footed Geese reported, all seen from Long Nab, 555 south, 235 north. A Ruff flew south. Elsewhere a Raven was over Cloughton Wyke, and a Wheatear at Marine Drive.

 A Pallas's Leaf Warbler was at Long Nab, also there were two Yellow-browed Warblers, 4 Blackcaps, Reed Warbler, Wheatear, 55 Robins, 12 Goldcrests, Brambling, and a Lapland Bunting flew in off the sea and carried on west. A Dark-bellied Brent Goose, Goosander, Red-breasted Merganser, Raven and Merlin flew north. 55 Pink-footed Geese flew south. Four Blackcaps on the north side of Castle Hill. At Potter Brompton Carr: 3 Marsh Harriers, 2 Great White Egrets, 2 Little Egrets. 17 Coot on the Water Sports Lake, NY Water Park. Blackcap, Chiffchaff, 20 Robins Newlands Dale. 4 Little Grebes, 2 Gadwall, 45 Tufted Ducks Seamer Road Mere. A Wheatear at Marine Drive. Chiffchaffs at Burton Riggs and Heron Lane.  Two Yellow-browed Warblers, and a Ring Ouzel at Long Nab, plus an influx of c15 Goldcrests there this afternoon. Highlights moving past were 11 Dark-bellied Brent Geese, 4 Eiders, 5 Velvet Scoters, 9 Little Gulls, 11 Arctic Skuas, 1 Sooty Shearwater. The first Redwings, 10+ were over Wrench Green late afternoon. 8 Goldcrests on the south side of Castle Hill. A Puffin was sadly found dead on the road in South Bay.

 Another wet and windy day. Strong northerlies saw some interesting seabird movements past Long Nab; highlights moving north was Red-necked Grebe, Pintail, Velvet Scoter (+ 1 south), 7 Barnacle Geese (+12 south), 2 Dark-bellied brent Geese,  Balearic Shearwater, 51 Sooty Shearwaters, 10 Little Gulls, and a Great Skua. Two House Martins were at Low Dalby.

 A new Red-breasted Flycatcher arrived at Long Nab, in Crook Ness this afternoon. The Yellow-browed Warbler was still in the ringing plantation. Highlights past Long Nab; 4 Dark-bellied Brent Geese, 1 Pale-bellied Brent Goose, 7 Pintail, 2 Common Terns, 3 Little Gulls, 9 Arctic Skuas. A Wheatear was with 11 Pied Wagtails on the spit at North Yorkshire Water Park. At Seamer Tip Pool: 29 Gadwall, 8 Mute Swans, 6 Tufted Ducks, 2 Cormorants, Little grebe, 3 Chiffchaffs, 13 Magpie.

 Two Whooper Swans were in a stubble field at Ruston Carr. 50 Pink-footed Geese flew south over East Ayton. A Yellow-browed Warbler was at Long Nab, in the ringing plantation. Highlights past there were 133 Pink-footed Geese, 6 Arctic Terns, 2 Sandwich Terns, 67 Little Gulls, 6 Arctics Skuas, 1170 Razorbills. A Wheatear and 3 Stonechats Ravenscar. Barn Owl Thornton Carrs. At North Yorkshire Water Park; Snipe, Common Sandpiper, 1cy Mediterranean Gull, 650 Herring Gulls, 2 Lbb Gulls, 2 Gbb Gulls.

 The Slavonian Grebe was again in the harbour, but could not be found late afternoon. Highlights from today's seawatch at Long Nab; Red-necked Grebe, Long-tailed Skua, and Pomarine Skua all flew north, a supporting cast of Velvet Scoter, 9 Little Gulls, 4 Mediterranean Gulls, Puffin, and 2 Sooty Shearwaters. Good numbers of more common seabirds moving back north after the gales; 1,173 Kittiwakes and 530 Razorbill/Guillemots. Two Yellow-browed Warblers were in a garden in Scalby Village, plus one again at Crook Ness. At Burton Riggs the goose flock consisted of one Pink-footed, 150 Canada, and 245 Greylag. A Chiffchaff at Taylor Way; still plenty around our area. Two Little Egrets at Thornton le Dale Water Treatment. 1200 Herring Gulls, 350 Black-headed Gulls were feeding on extensive floods at Cayton Carrs, also a Marsh Harrier there. 54 Teal at Johnson's Marsh.

 A Slavonian Grebe was in the harbour early evening. Highlights past Long Nab included 9 Pale-bellied Brent Geese, 123 Barnacle Geese, 11 Pintail, 7 Eider, Velvet Scoter, 5 Knot, 51 Sooty Shearwaters, Mediterranean Gull, 3 Sandwich Terns. 40 House martins were feeding near Hutton Buscel church yard this evening. A flooded Johnson's Marsh held 6 Wigeon, 33 Teal, 41 Mallard. 13 Wigeon circled Burton Riggs before flying west.

 Heavy rain and strong NE winds restricted birding to a seawatch from Long Nab Bird Observatory 07:20-14:50: 26 Sooty Shearwaters, 83 Manx Shearwaters, Pomarine Skua (imm north), 17 Great Skuas, 7 Arctic Skuas, Long-tailed Skua (adult south), Pintail, 9 Arctic Terns, 3 Common Terns, 1 Sandwich Tern. 29 Teal, 41 Mallard at a flooded Johnson's Marsh.

 Four Yellow-browed Warblers at Long Nab, two at Crook Ness plus two new birds at Cliff Top House this afternoon. Highlights past there included 83 Pink-footed Geese, Velvet Scoter, Sooty Shearwater, Bar-tailed Godwit,  Little Gull, and 4 Sandwich Terns. At Potter Brompton Carr; 3 Marsh Harriers, 4 Common Buzzards, 2 Little Egrets, and a Great White Egret. 37 Teal at Johnson's Marsh. Tawny Owls are being heard regularly at Falsgrave Park. A Blackcap in a Burniston garden. Little Egret at Brompton Butts. At East Lake (NY Water Park); Common Sandpiper, Dunlin, 6 Teal. 50 Common Scoter on the sea off Marine Drive.  Highlight of the day was a FEA'S type petrel which flew NE past Long Nab at 08:54am. Also north past there were 5 Pintail, a Velvet Scoter, 3 Sooty Shearwaters, and a Hobby. Three Yellow-browed Warblers were present (Hundale, pipe gully, and Crook Ness), plus a Blackcap and Wheatear. Six Teal, Little Owl, Yellow Wagtail, Blackcap, 48 House Martins, 24 Swallows at Cloughton Wyke/Salt Pans Road. In nearby Sycarham Wood / Hood Lane; Blackcap, 4 Chiffchaffs. At North Yorkshire Water Park: Little Egret, 7 Dunlin, 11 Teal, 4 Wigeon, 10 Coot, 2 Water Rails, 35 Robins, 11 Chiffchaffs, Blackcap. Two Great White Egrets briefly at Johnson's Marsh before leaving north (also seen over Burniston), plus 44 Teal. At Scalby Mills; 23 Wigeon, Curlew, 3 Turnstone, 5 Grey Herons, Common Tern (south), and a Brent Goose (north).

 The Red-breasted Flycatcher was still in the "long hedge" at Long Nab, 4 Yellow-browed Warblers (3 new), 2 Blackcaps, and a Whitethroat. Two Great Skuas, a Sooty Shearwater and 2 Pintail flew north. A very vocal Yellow-browed Warbler was at the south end of Peasholm Park. The WeBS count at Seamer Road Mere gave totals of 14 Gadwall, 4 Wigeon, 1 Teal, 40 Mallard, 23 Tufted Ducks, Kingfisher, 16 Cormorants, 47 Coot, and 76 Moorhens (3 recent broods of 2,1,1). A Dunlin at Burton Riggs. A Raven flew over Peasholm Glen. 13 Pied and 1 Grey Wagtail at Cromer Point Water Treatment.

 A new 1w Red-breasted Flycatcher appeared at the cliff top near Long Nab Bird Observatory around midday, then moved to a nearby hedge, still there early evening. A total of ten Yellow-browed Warblers were found today; Long Nab (2), Castle Hill (2), St Mary's Church, Gristhorpe Village, Ravenscar, Sycarham Wood, Blue Dolphin/Lebberston area (2). Other highlights at Long Nab were a juvenile Sabine's Gull, and Balearic Shearwater north, Velvet Scoter and the first Snow Bunting of autumn south. A Tree Pipit in the Lebberston Cliffs area. A Goosander at Throxenby Mere. Barn Owl on the south side of Castle Hill. At Seamer tip pool; 41 Gadwall, 32 Mallard, 8 Mute Swans, 3 Teal, 3 Wigeon, 2 Tufted Ducks.

 Two Red-breasted Flycatchers were found today, at Long Nab and Yons Nab. Other migrants at Long Nab were 4 Yellow-browed Warblers, 2 Wheatears, a Redstart, 6 Song Thrush, and 25 Robins. 30 Ringed Plovers flew south in several small flocks. Also at Yons Nab were a Yellow-browed Warbler, Redstart, Wheatear, and Grey Plover. Three Wheatears and a Golden Plover at Castle Hill. A Great White Egret flew over Scalby sports field. Fourteen Gadwall at Seamer Road Mere.  A Yellow-browed Warbler was on the south side of Castle Hill, a Wheatear and Stonechat behind Marine Drive wall. A Raven and 14 Chiffchaffs at Ravenscar. 4 Chiffchaffs at Sycarham Wood, a Wheatear at nearby Salt Pans Lane. Two Wheatears at Long Nab. Highlights from this morning's watch included a Marsh Harrier and Hobby south, on the sea past were a juvenile Long-tailed Skua, 17 Arctic Skuas, a Great Skua, 5 Pale-bellied Brent Geese, 2 Pintail, 3 Sooty Shearwaters. 700 Herring Gulls were feeding at Long Nab, a roost flight of 2800 east over Burton Riggs. Two 1cy Mediterranean Gulls in South Bay. At Potter Brompton Carr; 2 Wigeon, 76 Teal, 4 Shoveler, 5 Greenshank, 4 Ruff, 4 Dunlin, 3 Green Sandpipers, 2 Great White Egrets, 2 Little Egrets, 3 Marsh Harriers, 2 Stonechats.

 The first Yellow-browed Warbler of autumn was in a small tit flock at Johnson's Marsh this afternoon, also 20 Teal there. East Lake at NY Water Park held 1,150 Greylag Geese, Common Sandpiper, 4 Green Sandpipers, a juvenile Hobby hawking over, 12 Gbb Gulls, 2 Lbb Gulls, 530 Black-headed Gulls, Kingfisher. A Wheatear at Marine Drive, two Brent Geese flew north there. 35 Wigeon at Scalby Mills. A Little Egret, Kingfisher, and Chiffchaff at Burton Riggs. Highlights past Long Nab included 26 Wigeon, 129 Teal, 193 Common Scoters, Little Egret, 4 Arctic Skuas, 4 Common Terns.

 A 1cy Caspian Gull, Dunlin, 50 Lapwing, Little Egret, 4 Pink-footed Geese, 450 Greylag Geese at East Lake, NY Water Park. A Hooded Crow was with Carrion Crows at Muston Cottage Farm mid-morning. 450 Greylag Geese, 5 Pink-footed Geese between Allerston and Yedingham. Six Pale-bellied Brent Geese, 5 Little Egrets at Gristhorpe Bay, 10 Grey Partridges in nearby fields. A Little Gull feeding offshore at Long Nab, Pale-bellied Brent Goose flew north, a Great Skua flew south.

 A skein of 30 Pink-footed Geese over Dalby this morning. At East Lake, North Yorkshire Water Park today: one cream crown Marsh Harrier, adult Mediterranean Gull,  four Lesser Black Backed Gull, one Common Sandpiper, two Pink footed Geese, two Gadwall, 11 Tufted Duck and nine Teal. Three Willow Tit, one Marsh Tit, nine Common Buzzard, one Goshawk, five Crossbill, two Jay, two Blackcap and seven Chiffchaff at Dalby Nabgate and Sand Dale. Three Chiffchaff were at Burton Riggs and a Kingfisher bizarrely flew along Moorland Road towards Peasholm.  Approximately 30 Wigeon this evening at Scalby Mills.

 Two Green Sandpiper, a Greenshank, 55 Lapwing, a drake Gadwall, two Teal, 730 Greylag Geese and 120 Canada Geese at the East Lake, North Yorkshire Water Park. At Potter Brompton Carr today: one Little Ringed Plover, four Green Sandpiper, four Greenshank, two Ruff, three Great Egret, three Little Egret, 36 Teal, two Marsh Harrier, one Great Spotted Woodpecker and two Chiffchaff. A Common Whitethroat and a Chiffchaff at Burton Riggs and a Nuthatch at Woodland Ravine. 45 Pink-footed Geese flew SW at Long Nab and two Raven were in Troutsdale.

 11 Arctic Skua, six Little Gull, juvenile Caspian Gull, juvenile Yellow-legged Gull and two Shoveler past Long Nab this morning. Four Golden Plover, one Green Sandpiper, two Dunlin and two Ringed Plover at East Lake, North Yorkshire Water Park. A Little Egret at Burton Riggs and 40+ Carrion Crows on rocks at North Bay near Sealife Centre plus a Brent Goose sp. A first calendar year colour ringed Caspian Gull at Scalby Mills (same bird as on 14th), ringed at Ijsselmeer, Netherlands on 9/5/2024, plus 16 Great Black Backed Gull, two Sandwich Tern and now five Wigeon. A juvenile Arctic Skua and seven Red-throated Diver south off Yons Nab. At Potter Brompton Carr: Whinchat, Sedge Warbler, four Ruff, four Greenshank, Ringed Plover, three Shoveler, six Wigeon, 180+ Goldfinch, two Great White Egret, two Little Egret, two Marsh Harrier and two juvenile Marsh Harrier on nearby Binnington Carr. A Little Egret flew SE over Burniston and it or another was at Scalby Mills along with a Kingfisher and a Sanderling in North Bay. Skeins of 140 and 100 plus of Pink-footed Geese flew south over Dalby Forest late evening. Several  further skeins of approximately 80 Pink-footed Geese were over Dalby Forest after dark.

 Highlights past Long Nab this morning: six Arctic Skua, one Great Skua, six Little Gull, 27 Common Scoter and 41 Great Black Backed Gull. At Potter Brompton Carr: three Ruff, five Greenshank, 16 Wigeon, two Shoveler, two Great White Egret, seven Little Egret, three Marsh Harrier and two Yellow Wagtail. A Hobby feeding over the Predator Lake at the North Yorkshire Water Park. 52 House Sparrow and six Tree Sparrow in a garden near Scalby Mills and 31 House Sparrow in a Burniston garden. A Marsh Harrier was over fields near Malton Cote, Ebberston. At Scalby Mills: An adult Yellow-legged Gull, 1st calendar year Caspian Gull, two Common Gull, 95 Black-headed Gull, five Kittiwake, 15 Great Black Backed Gull, 450 Herring Gull  and four Wigeon at Scalby Mills. Highlights S through South Cliff this morning: 177 Meadow Pipit, 221 House Martin, seven Sand Martin, one Swift, one flava Wagtail and four Grey Wagtail.

 Approximately 60 Pink-footed Geese passed south over Jackson's Bay and a Little Egret flew east over Heron Lane, Crossgates. An adult Little Gull was blogging off Scalby Mills. A busy seawatch at Long Nab this morning with highlights being  a Cory's Shearwater, Juvenile Long-tailed Skua, 26 Little Gull, juvenile Caspian Gull, four Pintail, 360 Commic Tern, 410 Kittiwake, seven Sooty Shearwater, 24 Manx Shearwater and 443 Gannet (184S), four Arctic Skua (2S) all north. A 1st calendar year Yellow-legged Gull flew south. A Dunlin, 10 Ringed Plover, five Turnstone, 35 Oystercatcher and three Redshank in Jackson's Bay. 1,000 plus Pink-footed Geese south over Wykeham between 0800hrs and 1500hrs and two juvenile Goshawk in Troutsdale.

 A  vocal GREENISH WARBLER was found late this afternoon at Crossgates in a strip of Woodland between the playpark and the railway. A Redstart was near Northstile, Wrench Green and a Chiffchaff at Burton Riggs. 100+ Pink-footed Geese  flew ESE over Fylingdales and eight Turnstone at Scalby Mills. A Sanderling on North Bay beach. Highlights from a busy afternoon watch at Long Nab: 3 Little Gull, 7 Sooty Shearwater, 41 Manx Shearwater, 320 Commic Terns, 63 Sandwich Tern, 43 Common Tern and two Great Skua all north. 4 Pale-bellied Brent Geese south.

 A Willow Warbler was at Heron Lane, Crossgates and a Common Sandpiper, Kingfisher and 15 Mute Swan were at North Yorkshire Water Park. Five Ringed Plover, three Redshank, two Curlew, seven Common Tern and a Kingfisher were the Highlights at Scalby Mills.

 At Sand dale area of Dalby this morning: six Common Buzzard, 10 Chiffchaff, one Willow Warbler, one Spotted Flycatcher, two Marsh Tit, one Nuthatch and one Treecreeper. An Arctic Skua flew south off Marine Drive and a Common Scoter was on the sea. Approximately 20 House Martin over Stepney and four Wheatear at Hundale Scar. A Kingfisher and three Wigeon at Scalby Mills. Three skeins of Pink-footed Geese totalling 160 birds over Middle Deepdale and a further skein over Lyell Street late evening. A Sparrowhawk with Greenfinch prey in a Cayton garden.

 A flighty Lapland Bunting was in a stubble field next to Cromer Point Water Treatment Works, also a Whinchat there. A Pied Flycatcher remained in a Newby garden. A Whinchat and five Wheatear were on Castle headland Tops and a Wheatear was seen on the roof of St. Mary's Church. Approximately 100 Pink-footed Geese, the first of the autumn flew SE over Pickering. A Great White Egret flew west over Long Causeway, Wykeham and three Gadwall and 50 plus Tufted Duck were the highlights at Seamer Road Mere. 13 Manx Shearwater flew north at Long Nab with five feeding offshore, an Arctic Skua flew north and an Arctic Tern flew south. 10 Yellowhammer, a Jay and two Chiffchaff were of note at Mowthorpe Bridge.

 After an appalling morning's weather, a few grounded birds reported during the afternoon. A Redstart, Whinchat and Wheatear at Scalby Ness and a Dunlin and juvenile Mediterranean Gull in Jackson's Bay. A Pied Flycatcher, Redstart, Lesser Whitethroat, two Willow Warbler, Blackcap, 60+ Goldfinch and a Swallow at Crook Ness, and a Wheatear and five Swallow at Cliff Top House. A Pied Flycatcher and a Redstart inland in a Newby garden and 10 Sanderling at Cayton Bay. A Hobby over Wilton Carrs. At East Lake at North Yorkshire Water Park: 670 Greylag Geese, 90 Canada Geese, five Lapwing, 12 Coot, six Great Black backed Gull, one Lesser Black backed Gull and eight Cormorant. Two Common Sandpiper and 11 Mute Swan on the Water Sports Lake. 24 Teal and a Wigeon at Scalby Mills. Two Common Whitethroat and a Wheatear at Yons Nab.

 A Red-breasted Flycatcher was at Lebberston, just east of Yons Nab under cliff base this morning. Also present there was one Pied Flycatcher, one Spotted Flycatcher,, two Redstart, one Lesser Whitethroat, one Garden Warbler, five Wheatear, six Little Egret and a Whimbrel. A Pied Flycatcher at the south end of Cayton Bay. Passing north at Long Nab this morning were five Sooty Shearwater, 54 Manx Shearwater, 12 Arctic Skua (1S), two Great Skua, one Black Tern, five Common Scoter,  and approximately 1,500 Kittiwake. Four Wigeon, 20 Teal and four Common Scoter flew south. A Cory's Shearwater flew north past Marine Drive this morning and a Common Sandpiper and 16 Lapwing were at North Yorkshire Water Park East Lake. During an early evening watch north at Long Nab: a juvenile Roseate Tern, four Manx Shearwater and 43 Sandwich Tern (24S). A Great Skua and a Whimbrel south.

 A long seawatch at Long Nab produced 3 Pale-bellied Brent Geese, 31 Arctic Skuas, 7 juvenile/immature Pomarine Skuas, a juvenile Long-tailed Skua, 9 Great Skuas, Storm Petrel, 67 Sooty Shearwaters, 493 Manx Shearwaters, a Cory's Shearwater (first seen past Marine Drive), and a Caspian Gull. Present were a Spotted Flycatcher, Willow Warbler, and 2 Lesser Whitethroats. At South Cliff; Whinchat, Redstart, Spotted Flycatcher. Castle Hill had a Whinchat and 7 Wheatears. A Whinchat at Cloughton Wyke, plus 2 Grey Plover flew south. 50 Sandwich Terns were at Scalby Mills. Five Whinchat, eight Wheatear and singles of Redstart, Garden Warbler and Tree Pipit at Lebberston Cliffs.

 Highlights past Long Nab this morning; dark morph Pomarine Skua, 6 Sooty and a Balearic Shearwater, 128 Manx Shearwaters, 3 Pale-bellied Brent Geese, 11 Arctic Skuas. Five Marsh Harriers at Potter Brompton Carr. A 1cy Yellow-legged Gull, 7 Wigeon, and a Greenshank at East Lake, NY Water Park.

 With a swing in the winds to the north (NNW) an increase in seabirds moving was evident at Long Nab; a Balearic Shearwater, 18 Sooty Shearwaters, 272 Manx Shearwaters, 27 Arctic Skuas, Long-tailed Skua, 4 Great Skuas. A Whimbrel flew south in the evening. Four Gadwall, 2 Little Grebes at Seamer Road Mere. A Swift flew south at Ravenscar, grounded migrants included a Redstart, Whitethroat, Blackcap, 10 Chiffchaffs, plus 30 Swallows, and 5 Bullfinch. Five Ravens flew over Bridestones, Dalby Forest. 27 Mandarins in Troutsdale. 10 Crossbills at Broxa Forest. A colour-ringed Caspian Gull (1cy) was on the silt at East Lake (NY Water Park), different to yesterday's bird. This bird had been ringed as a chick on 18th June 2024 at Lelystad (Bataviahaven), Flevoland, NL Also there a Shoveler, Common Sandpiper and 3 Sand Martins.

 Most of yesterday's passerine arrivals had cleared out overnight. A Garden Warbler was at Castle Hill. Two Black Terns flew north past Long Nab, also 2 Little Egrets, and a Greenshank north. A Wheatear at Hundale Point, plus a Pied Flycatcher and Lesser Whitethroat at Crook Ness this evening. A mid-afternoon check of Cloughton Wyke revealed a Pied Flycatcher, 2 Redstarts, and 2 Whitethroats. A Hobby flew south-west there. A Redstart was in a Burniston garden. A Tree Pipit at Wrench Green. Early morning in the Gristhorpe Bay area saw a Pied Flycatcher, 4 Whinchats, 6 Wheatears, 3 Spotted Flycatchers, 2 Redstarts, 2 Stonechats, 2 Whitethroats, a Lesser Whitethroat and 21 Pied Wagtails. In the bay were a Little Egret, 95 Oystercatchers, 20 Gbb Gulls, a Lbb Gull, 27 Cormorants, 8 Grey Herons. At East Lake (NY Water Park): 12 Teal, Caspian Gull (1cy), Yellow-legged Gull (1cy), 13 Lbb Gulls, 5 Gbb Gulls, 214 Lapwing, Dunlin, Ruff, Redshank, 27 Coot.
