Monday 31st August

 A female Common Scoter was seen close inshore off Marine Drive this morning, heading south. A Marsh Harrier flew south at Long Nab, where the Hen Harrier was also seen again, and 9 Bar-tailed Godwits came in from the north and east. 4 Lesser Whitethroats, a Redstart, a Common Whitethroat, 4 Willow Warblers and 4 Chiffchaffs were in the Crook Ness/Cliff Top House area. A Bullfinch was in a garden at Ravenscar, an adult Peregrine was hunting over the St Columbus Ravine area, and 13 Buzzards were over Barmoor Lane. 20 Sandwich Terns were seen off Scalby Nab, 14 Teal and a Common Sandpiper were at Johnson's Marsh, and a Mediterranean Gull flew north-west over Crossgates. A Pied Flycatcher, 2 Willow Warblers and a Wheatear were on Castle Hill. 2 juvenile Scaup were at Wykeham South Lake this afternoon, along with a Reed Warbler and a Yellow Wagtail, while 52 Swifts were feeding with a large mixed flock of hirundines over fields to the south. At Crook Ness this afternoon there was a Garden Warbler, while at Long Nab a Sooty Shearwater, 2 Eiders and 2 Knot flew north and 104 Swallows and 17 Swifts flew south. 13 Turnstones, 4 Redshank and 30+ Swallows were seen at Scalby Nab this evening, and a single Dunlin was on North Bay beach. A Spotted Flycatcher was sound recorded over Peasholm at 22.26 hrs.

Sunday 30th August

4 Sanderlings were on the beach in North Bay this morning and 3 were seen there in the afternoon. A Hobby was hunting House Martins over Thornton Dale woods, and a Swift was seen in the Mowthorpe area. An Avocet circled Wykeham South Lake this morning, and Goshawk flew north-east over Crossgates this afternoon. Migrants on Castle Hill included a Wood Warbler, 2 Pied Flycatchers, 4 Willow Warblers and a Wheatear; while migrants on South Cliff this afternoon included a Whinchat, a Wheatear, a Lesser Whitethroat and a Willow Warbler. Highlights seen passing Long Nab through the day include: 73 Sooty Shearwaters,100 Manx Shearwaters, a Pintail, a Red-breasted Merganser, a Mediterranean Gull, 18 Great Skuas, 8 Arctic Skuas and 5 Long-tailed Skuas. A Wheatear was near the Long Nab observatory, and the Hen Harrier was again seen over the field inland from there as well as inland of Cliff Top House and north of Rock Lane. 3 Swifts and 3 Swallows were at Crook Ness.

Saturday 29th August

 A Swift was seen over Ramshill Road this morning, and the ring-tailed Hen Harrier was at Crook Ness again round noon. Highlights from Long Nab through the morning include 21 Pale-bellied Brent Geese, a Pintail, 52 Wigeon, 177 Teal, 14 Sooty Shearwaters, a Grey Plover, 6 Great Skuas, a Long-tailed Skua and 10 Arctic Skuas. 2 Eiders and a Shag were in South Bay, and 14 Turnstones were on the harbour. Passing Marine Drive through the day were: a Long-tailed Skua and 17 Arctic Skuas heading south, plus 5 Pale-bellied Brent Geese,  31 Wigeon, 39 Teal, 24 Common Scoter, a Manx Shearwater and 3 Sooty Shearwaters heading north (as well as the Eiders from South Bay). A Little Egret and 3 Turtle Doves were seen at Brompton Ponds.

Friday 28th August

 A young Heron at Seamer Road Mere this morning was noticed to be remarkably tame. At least one Long-tailed Skua, 6 Arctic Skuas and 3 Pale-bellied Brent Geese flew south past Marine drive, while a Sooty Shearwater, 2 Great Skuas, a Manx Shearwater, 2 Wigeon and 50+ Teal flew north. Highlights seen passing Long Nab through the day included 11 Pale-bellied Brent Geese (7 heading north, 4 south), 2 Shoveler north, a Great Northern Diver north, 19 Sooty Shearwaters north, 6 Long-tailed Skuas south, 29 Arctic Skuas south, and 16 Great Skuas (10 north, 6 south). A Ruff and 2 Snipe flew in off the sea.

 A Hen Harrier and a Red Kite were seen over fields at Long Nab, joined mid-morning by a Marsh Harrier, the latter being seen again on two occasions behind Crook Ness and over Cliff Top House. A Sooty Shearwater flew north past Long Nab and 2 Wheatears were present on the cliff in front of the observatory. In the afternoon a flock of 25 Whimbrel flew south at Long Nab, and 54 Sandwich Terns were in Burniston Bay. At Ravenscar a Greenshank, 86 Goldfinches and 15 Meadow Pipits flew south, while a Whimbrel flew north. 9 Willow Warblers and 7 Goldcrests were present, plus a Willow Tit on the cliff east of the tea rooms. 14 Teal were on Johnson's Marsh.

Highlights passing Marine Drive throughout the morning were 11 Long-tailed Skuas (10 of them heading south), 2 Black Terns, 82 Arctic Skuas (81 of them south), 29 Bonxies south, 10 Sooty Shearwaters north, and a Velvet Scoter north. The main highlights of a 14 hour watch from Long Nab were a Balearic Shearwater, 32 Sooty Shearwaters, a Goldeneye, a Ruff, a Little Gull, 17 Long-tailed Skuas, 97 Arctic Skuas, 43 Great Skuas and 9 pale-bellied Brent Geese. 2 Kingfishers were seen at the Open Air Theatre Lake, and in Jackson's Bay there were 6 Sanderling, 3 Bar-tailed Godwits and a Ringed Plover.

Today's highlight was a Spotted Crake, seen this morning running across the cart track near Seamer Tip. A juvenile Avocet and 2 Common Sandpipers were at Wykeham East Lake and a Dunlin was at South Lake. Seen passing Marine Drive early morning were 26 Knot, 8 Dunlin, 6 Sanderling, 12 Redshank, a Great Skua and 63 Teal all heading south, plus an Arctic Skua and 76 Common Scoter heading north. A good selection of waders flew past Long Nab this morning, including 7 Bar-tailed Godwits, 32 Knot and 2 Purple Sandpipers heading south, plus 3 Arctic Skuas heading north. Another 18 Knot and 23 Sanderling flew past south this evening. A Little Egret and a Redshank were at Johnson's Marsh this afternoon, and 2 Shoveler and 10 Teal were at Wykeham East Lake this evening.

 An Osprey was again seen at Wykeham Lakes, though distant over the inaccessible causeway lake. Highlights passing Long Nab through the morning include 89 Teal, 198 Fulmars, 2 Whimbrel, 9 Arctic Terns, 2 Great Skuas and 5 Arctic Skuas, while a Sedge Warbler and 590 Linnets were present. This evening a Little Gull and 92 Common Terns flew past north while 22 Knot flew south. At least 2 Redstarts, plus numerous Siskins and Crossbills, were at Whitby Road ponds by Jugger Howe this afternoon. A Whimbrel flew south over the Open Air Theatre this evening.

 A cream-crowned Marsh Harrier flew south at Long Nab early this morning and later the ring-tailed Hen Harrier was again over fields at Crook Ness. 2 Ospreys and 5 Common Sandpipers were at Wykeham Lakes and a juvenile Cuckoo was spotted at Ravenscar. Early in the afternoon a Wheatear was seen on the rock armour off Marine Drive. 71 Moorhens were at Seamer Road Mere, most of them young birds, with 3 adults still on eggs. 4 surviving Tufted Duck juveniles from 2 broods there are now well grown. A Green Sandpiper flew in off the sea at Long Nab this afternoon, possibly the one that was spotted a bit later at Johnson's Marsh. Also at Long Nab was an influx of 42+ Willow Warblers, and 75 Swifts flew south. 11 Ringed Plover, 4 Sanderling and a Dunlin were in Jackson's Bay.

 Early this morning a Wood Sandpiper was seen at Johnson's Marsh, where later a Dunlin dropped in. 14 Crossbills in 3 flocks, and 2 Swifts, flew south over Whin Bank. 2 Teal, a Pochard, 2 first calendar year Yellow-legged Gulls, 8 Lesser Black-backed Gulls (6 of them juveniles), an Osprey, a Little Egret, 4 Common Sandpipers, a Ringed Plover, 3 Shovelers and 2 Yellow Wagtails were at Wykeham Lakes, mainly East Lake. At Scalby Nab there were 23 Sandwich Terns (11 of them juvenile), a single Common Tern, 9 Redshank and 14 Turnstones. A Whimbrel flew south over North Bay, and 2 Great Crested Grebes were in Jackson's Bay.

2 Green and 2 Common Sandpipers were still at Northstile pool this morning. A Little Egret was at Burton Riggs and 11 Gadwall were at Seamer Tip. At Wykeham Lakes there were 3 Common Sandpipers, a Ringed Plover, 470 Greylag Geese, one Teal, 4 Egyptian Geese, 16 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 14 Great Black-backed Gulls, 140 Black-headed Gulls and a Yellow Wagtail. 5 Teal and 17 Herons were at Johnson's Marsh, while 15 Shelduck flew past Long Nab. 20 Turnstones were roosting at the harbour this evening, 4 of them returning colour-ringed birds.

The Hen Harrier was again over fields at Long Nab this morning, a Ruff flew in from the sea and continued west, and a juvenile Marsh Harrier flew south. At South Cliff 101Swifts, 2 Whimbrel, a Ringed Plover, 6 Flava Wagtails and 15 Crossbills flew south, while on Black Rocks there was a Common Sandpiper. At Johnson's Marsh there were 3 Teal and a Greenshank round midday, joined by 15 Herons late afternoon, and 4 more Teal, a Little Egret and a Green Sandpiper by evening. 2 Green Sandpipers, 2 Common Sandpipers and 7 Mandarins were at Northstile pool this evening, and a Barn Owl was over fields behind Crook Ness.

The Greenshank was still at Johnson's Marsh today, and the Hen Harrier was again seen in fields behind Long Nab. An Osprey was once again at Wykeham Lakes early morning where there was also: a Little Egret, a Wigeon, 2 Teal, 32 Tufted Duck, 2 Gadwall, 60+ Mallard, a Common Sandpiper, 6 Swifts, 13 Sand Martins, 2 Yellow Wagtails, a Reed Warbler, 5 Willow Warblers, 2 Great White Egrets and a Green Sandpiper. 4 Gadwall and a family group of 3 Spotted Flycatchers were seen at Scampston Park.

Tuesday 18th August

The Hen Harrier was seen again hunting over the fields near Long Nab and Crook Ness, together with a Marsh Harrier. A Whinchat was seen in the hedge inland from Crook Ness, and one was also seen in the cover crop at Long Nab, where there were also 2 Lesser Whitethroats and an increase in Whitethroats. 4 Whimbrel and 2 Ringed Plover flew past south and 2 Turtle Doves were at Fields Farm. At least 12 Curlew were in the field below Seamer Tip. There was no further sign of the Icterine Warbler at Holbeck, but there were 4 Whinchats and 2 Garden Warblers spotted along South Cliff, and a Common Sandpiper was on Black Rocks. At Johnson's Marsh there were 2 Teal, a Little Egret and a Greenshank, while 12 Mandarins were at Harwood Dale Lake. A Whinchat was at Ravenscar just south of the old station, and 2 Crossbills flew north. A cream-crowned Marsh Harrier was seen flying west at Long Nab this afternoon, then it/another was seen at Knipe Point before heading south over Cayton Bay. 2 Mediterranean Gulls were at the north end of Cayton Bay, along with 9 Sandwich Terns. 50+ House Martins were feeding over Woodlands Cemetery/Plaxton Court, as they have been on previous afternoons. This evening a Whimbrel flew south over the Scalby Mills pub, and 4 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and a Greenshank were heard calling over Wykeham East Lake, where there was also a Common Sandpiper.

 A juvenile Long-tailed Skua flew south past Long Nab and South Cliff this morning, and another flew north past Long Nab a bit later. An Icterine Warbler was spotted in sycamores at the southern end of Holbeck car park where it was seen occasionally throughout the day, with Garden and Willow Warblers also seen in the area. The Greenshank was again at Johnson's Marsh, plus 2 Ringed Plovers this afternoon, while at Wykeham South Lake there were 2 Common Sandpipers, 24 Coot and a Mediterranean Gull. 2 Pied Flycatchers were seen near Cliff Top House, Long Nab, while highlights passing Long Nab included 136 Teal, a Wigeon, 66 Manx Shearwaters, a Sooty Shearwater, a Greenshank, 111 Common Terns, 4 Arctic Terns, and 2360 Kittiwakes flying north plus 1100+ feeding offshore. A cream-crowned Marsh Harrier was near Givendale this afternoon, and a Turtle Dove was near Malton Cote. 86 Oystercatchers, 20+ Sandwich Terns and a Willow Warbler were near Cromer Point, and passing South Cliff were 5 Great Skuas, and a Greenshank that flew in off the sea and continued south. 3 Swifts flew south-west over Woodall Avenue this evening.

 About 200 Starlings were at Scarborough Cricket Club this morning, and a  juvenile Marsh Harrier was hunting over fields at Long Nab. A Skua, probably Pomarine, was spotted offshore near flocks of Kittiwakes, and a little later a Pomarine Skua was seen sitting on the sea close in off Scalby Ness. This afternoon a Greenshank was a Johnson's Marsh, and a Pied Flycatcher was at Cliff Top House, Long Nab.

 2 Ospreys were at Wykeham South Lake this morning, a Kingfisher was at the Open Air Theatre. and a Little Egret was at Johnson's Marsh. Highlights from Long Nab include several Skuas: 1 Long-tailed, 25 Arctic and 4 Great. Also seen were 55 Oystercatchers, 52 Redshank and a Greenshank, all heading south.

 At Wykeham South Lake early this morning an Osprey was seen circling, a Sandwich Tern flew high over eastwards, and a Common Sandpiper was present. Waders flying over east included 4 Redshank, a Golden Plover and an Oystercatcher; 140 Goldfinches were by the viewpoint and 250 Linnets were east of East Lake. A juvenile Caspian Gull was spotted in pig fields between West Knapton and West Heslerton by the A64. 3 Green Sandpipers were still at Northstile pool this evening, plus a Snipe and a Grey Wagtail. 2 juvenile Long-tailed Skuas flew north past Long Nab, also 9 Arctic Skuas past.

Thursday 13th August

 2 Bar-tailed Godwits and 2 Common Terns were seen at Jackson's Bay this morning, and at least 17 Curlew were in the field below Seamer Tip pool. At Wykeham lakes there were 3 Common Sandpipers, 12 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 24 Tufted Duck, 80+ Goldfinches and 14 Sand Martins. A Pied Flycatcher was at the ringing plantation at Long Nab, while flying south were an Arctic Skua, 34 Oystercatchers, 2 Bar-tailed Godwits and 14 Redshank. A large flock of Sanderling and Dunlin (about 25 of the former and 49 of the latter) flew south over Wykeham Lakes in the early morning, and several flocks of Arctic Terns were recorded during the night over Crossgates.

7 Willow Warblers and 3 Chiffchaffs were at Crook Ness early this morning, and on the north side of Castle Hill a Pied Flycatcher was in the pine belt, and 10 Chiffchaffs, a Marsh Tit and a juvenile Sparrowhawk were calling. Three Pied Flycatchers were at Long Nab, another was at Ravenscar just south of the tea rooms with a Whinchat,  2 Whinchats, 2 Willow Warblers and a Sedge Warbler were along South Cliff. An adult Yellow-legged Gull and 3 Arctic Skuas flew north at Long Nab and 2 Greenshank flew south. A Great White Egret and 2 Sanderlings were at Wykeham South Lake. A Common Sandpiper was at Johnson's Marsh plus one flew over Westwood at 10.28pm.

 A Short-eared Owl came in off the sea at Crook Ness this morning and flew south-west, and a dark phase Arctic Skua was seen heading south off Marine Drive. 4 Common Sandpipers were at the base of Holbeck Hill, and a Ringed Plover flew south. Also seen from Long Nab were a Wheatear, a dark phase Arctic Skua, 2 Whimbrel and a first summer Mediterranean Gull heading south, plus considerable Gannet movement. 7 Common Sandpipers were at Seamer Tip pool briefly before heading off east. The ring-tailed Hen Harrier was seen in the Scalby Lodge Pond area, while an Osprey, a Hobby and a Red Kite were spotted in the Dalby area, and a Great Skua went north past Marine Drive. A Little Egret, a Marsh Harrier and 8 Common Sandpipers were seen at Wykeham Lakes this evening.

Monday 10th August

2 Little Egrets and a Buzzard were seen at Johnson's Marsh this morning, and 3 Gadwall flew west over Burniston. A Wheatear and 2 Turtle Doves were at Long Nab, where 2 Greenshank were spotted passing. This afternoon a dark phase Arctic Skua was seen at Rodger Trod, and the Hen Harrier was seen again over a recently harvested wheat field opposite Burnside Holiday Homes in Burniston. 2 Mediterranean Gulls (an adult and a juvenile) were on Wykeham East Lake, along with 170+ Black-headed Gulls.  Little Egret, Marsh Harrier and 8 Common Sandpipers Wykeham South Lake.

 3 Kestrels, 2 Buzzards and 2 Sparrowhawks were seen at Cromer Point this morning. Highlights past Long Nab included: a Sooty Shearwater, 2 Arctic Skuas and 3 Mediterranean Gulls north, plus 1 Arctic Skua, 617 Oystercatchers, a Bar-tailed Godwit, 2 Whimbrel, 33 Knot and a Great Skua south. 3 Common Sandpipers were at Burton Riggs this afternoon, and 2 more were at Seamer Tip pool. The Hen Harrier was seen again just north of Cliff Top House, where 3 Turtle Doves were present by the dung heap. 17 Mediterranean Gulls (3 of them juveniles) were on Black Rocks, along with 5 Common Sandpipers, while small numbers of Oystercatchers and Whimbrel continued to head south. An Osprey was spotted at Wykeham South Lake in the late afternoon, 13 Common Sandpipers there early morning. Highlights from the afternoon/evening sea watch at Long Nab include: a Sooty Shearwater, 74 Manx Shearwaters, 228 Oystercatchers south (making a daily total of 845 south and 11 north), 3 Mediterranean Gulls, 85 Common Terns and 57 Arctic Terns.

 15 Mediterranean Gulls, including 3 juveniles, were in the high tide roost on Black Rocks this morning. A Great Skua flew south inland along the golf course at South Cliff, and at least one Willow Tit was in Cornelian Ravine. 3 Honey Buzzards and 2 Goshawks were seen from Wykeham Raptor Viewpoint. Highlights from Long Nab include: 2 Turtle Doves, 3 Arctic Skuas, a Tree Pipit, and 3 Crossbills, all heading south. A Shoveler, a Shelduck, 3 Teal and 7 Mandarins were at Harwood Dale Lake, and a Fulmar was seen flying south over Woodall Avenue. Little Egrets were at Johnson's Marsh, Brompton pond, and 2 at Wykeham Lakes. Also at Wykeham Lakes were a male Marsh Harrier, a Greenshank and 3 Common Sandpipers. 3 Green Sandpipers were still at Northstile pool. At Scalby Mills there were juvenile Common and Mediterranean Gulls, plus 70 Black-headed Gulls (including the Norwegian-ringed JO2Z individual seen there each year). A Whimbrel was spotted flying south.

 A Short-eared Owl and the Hen Harrier were both seen over the fields by Long Nab early this morning. Highlights passing Long Nab southwards through the morning include 5 Wigeon, 2 Marsh Harriers, 2 Green Sandpipers, a Hobby and 435 Sand Martins. A Whinchat and 5 Willow Warblers were between Holbeck car park and South Cliff golf  course, and a Little Egret was at Johnson's Marsh. 3 Honey Buzzards and 2 Red Kites plus a Willow Tit were seen from Wykeham Raptor Viewpoint and Troutsdale today, and a female Crossbill with a massive bill was spotted near the viewpoint. At Northstile Pool this afternoon there were 3 Green Sandpipers, while this evening the Hen Harrier was seen again at Long Nab and an adult Mediterranean Gull was 'anting' over the new housing estate at the end of Field Lane, Scalby. 17 Grey Herons were at Johnson's Marsh.

The Hen Harrier was seen again, between Crook Ness and Cromer Point, while 2 Goosanders flew north past Long Nab and 53 Manx Shearwaters flew south. An adult Mediterranean Gull was with 160 Black-headed Gulls in Burniston Bay. The Greenshank remained at Johnson's Marsh throughout the day, where there were also 15 Herons this evening. At Harwood Dale Lake there were 5 Black-tailed Godwits, a juvenile Shelduck, a juvenile Stonechat and 4 Mandarins. A Whimbrel was in Cornelian Bay this afternoon, and a Willow Warbler was in the ravine, while 6 Crossbills were seen at the rear of Northcliffe Avenue before flying off south-west. 2 Arctic Terns flew south at Long Nab this evening. A Great White Egret was at Wykeham Lakes this morning.

Wednesday 5th August

A Greenshank was at Johnson’s Marsh this morning; a juvenile Shelduck, 13 Mandarins and 2 Teal were at Harwood Dale Lake; and 3 Turtle Doves were by the Mill Inn. 5 Gannets were seen diving in North Bay. At Wykeham Lakes there were 509 Greylags, 4 Lesser Black-backed Gulls (1 a juvenile), Greenshank, Common Sandpiper, a Marsh Harrier, and 15 Black-tailed Godwits circled the East Lake before flying off southwards. This afternoon a Hobby was seen over Wykeham South Lake, and a Marsh Harrier was seen from Flixton Bridge sitting on a fence amongst cattle. Highlights from Long Nab include 8 Golden Plover and a Snipe in off the sea; 7 Turnstones, a juvenile Yellow-legged Gull and 674 Swifts flying south; and a second summer Mediterranean Gull flying north. In Cornelian Bay there were 12 Curlew, a Dunlin, a Common Sandpiper, 73 Sandwich Terns (24 of them juveniles), an adult Lesser Black-backed Gull and 2 Mediterranean Gulls (an adult and a juvenile). A Red Kite was spotted over Silpho.

Tuesday 4th August

A Red Kite flew north at Long Nab this morning, and a Green Woodpecker was seen in a garden at Ravenscar. 2 Black-tailed Godwits went south past South Cliff, as did 6 Bottlenose Dolphins. A Hobby was seen flying north over Crossgates, and both an Osprey and a Red Kite were at Wykeham South Lake. Only 6 Mediterranean Gulls were seen off Holbeck this morning, among them the Polish and German ringed adults (PNN5 and AL.AU respectively).

Monday 3rd August

The Hen Harrier was still hunting over coastal fields ranging between Long Nab and Scalby Lodge cottages. A Woodcock flew in off the sea at Long Nab, 2 Common Sandpipers were on the rocks below the observatory and 5 Little Egrets flew north. The Osprey was seen again at Wykeham Lakes, where it was over South Lake at 09.25 and left west. Two juvenile Yellow-legged Gulls were on East Lake. A Little Egret was at Brompton Ponds. A Honey Buzzard  flew NE over Crossgates at 15.15 plus the pale male was again seen from the Wykeham Forest Raptor Viewpoint. a family party of 4+ Willow Tits were at Langdale Rigg End, also 2 Lesser Redpolls there.

A Hen Harrier, a Red Kite and a Marsh Harrier were all seen at the same time over fields inland from Crook Ness early this morning, and later 3 Marsh Harriers were over the fields at Long Nab. A Marsh Harrier and a Red Kite were also seen together from South Cliff heading south over South Bay, followed later by a second Marsh Harrier. Also seen from South Cliff were 24 Crossbills heading south and 7 north, and a second summer Mediterranean Gull in from the east, while 4 Crossbills flew south at Long Nab and 32 flew south and 5 north at Ravenscar. A family of 4 Spotted Flycatchers were seen near Northstile, Wrench Green, as well as a Willow Tit. An Osprey and a Hobby were both seen at Wykeham Lakes. This afternoon the Hen Harrier was again seen over the fields inland of Crook Ness, plus a Marsh Harrier and a Buzzard. In Jackson's Bay there were 13 Common Terns (one a juvenile), 2 Sandwich Terns, and 2 Redshank on the rocks, while 120 Swifts were feeding between Rocks Lane and the water treatment works. A Common Sandpiper, a juvenile Yellow-legged Gull and 10 Pied Wagtails were at Wykeham East Lake early evening, and 6 Grey Partridges were spotted down from the Wykeham South Lake viewpoint. A Red Kite was over Cloughton Woods, and 2 were also at Hayburn Wyke. At Jackson's Bay at high tide there were 14 Turnstone, 10 Redshank and a Ringed Plover. A pair of Stonechats were on the cliffs there, and a Dunlin was seen flying south at Scalby Mills.

3 Golden plovers were seen over Spiker's Hill early this morning, and 2 Jays were by the quarry. 28 Crossbills flew south at Ravenscar by 07:00, and a Marsh Harrier and a juvenile Goshawk were seen near Crook Ness at about 07:30. 120 Common Scoter flew north off Marine Drive, and passing Long Nab were 1563 Common Scoter (1351 of these heading north), 41 Teal, 3 Velvet Scoters (south), a Great Northern Diver (north) and a Mediterranean Gull (south). Passing South Cliff were a Shoveler, and 64 Black-headed Gulls in from the east, while a Common Sandpiper was on Black Rocks. This evening 2 Short-eared Owls were hunting around Field Lane in Burniston.
