 Lots of southerly movement of Pink-footed Geese today; in excess of 850 reported from various locations. The three Ruddy Shelducks remain at East Lake, North Yorkshire Water Park, also 2 Pintail, and 25+ Wigeon there. The high tide wader roost at Cromer Point/Burniston Bay held 21 Oystercatchers, 4 Grey Plover, 10 Ringed Plovers, 6 Turnstone, and 6 Knot this morning. 63 Teal at Johnson's Marsh. 5 Goosanders flew south at Long Nab. Three Shoveler at Seamer tip pool.

 A Caspian Gull (1cy) and Great White Egret flew south at Long Nab, also 146 Pink-footed Geese, 4 Pintail, and single Shoveler. An adult male Merlin was lingering there also. A Whooper Swan was in North Bay. A female Goshawk over Trout Lake, NY Water Park. At Potter Brompton Carr: Little Egret, 2 Wigeon, 3 Teal, Kingfisher. A Great Crested Grebe in the harbour. A high tide wader roost at Cromer Point held 5 Grey Plovers, 3 Dunlin, and 15 Ringed Plover.

 No sign of the Eastern Olivaceous or Barred Warblers today. The 3 Ruddy Shelducks were still on East Lake at North Yorkshire Water Park, also Egyptian Goose, 3 Pintail, 6 Gadwall, 2 Shoveler, 72 Mallard, 67 Wigeon, Common Sandpiper, Dunlin, Common Tern, and 2 Kingfishers. Potter Brompton Carr had 4 Little Egrets, Wigeon, 3 Teal, Pink-footed Goose, 2 Marsh Harriers, and 79 Lapwing. Eight Pintail and 2 Shover flew north at Long Nab, a Wheatear by Pipe Gully.

Wednesday 27th September

 The Eastern Olivaceous Warbler was still present in "Pipe Gully" at Long Nab, and entertained the crowds all day, still there early evening. The first Redwing of autumn was at Long Nab this morning, a Grey Plover and Common Sandpiper in Burniston Bay. The Barred Warbler at Scalby Lodge was also seen by many visiting birders today, mostly in Trough Gully (2nd gully north of Scalby Lodge Pond). 4 Grey Plovers were in Jackson's Bay. The three Ruddy Shelduck were still at East Lake, NY Water Park, also there an Egyptian Goose, 2 Shoveler, 29 Wigeon, 38 Teal, and 9 Dunlin flew through. 63 Teal at Johnson's Marsh.  A surprise find at Long Nab today was an EASTERN OLIVACEOUS WARBLER feeding in "Pipe Gully", c150m south of Crook Ness car park. A new species for the district and only the third record of this species for Yorkshire. It was still showing on and off early evening. A busy migration watch there this morning, highlights Grey Plover, 5 Crossbills, 251 Lesser Redpolls south. Two Pintail flew north early evening.  A Whitethroat was also in Pipe Gully. The Barred Warbler was back in Trough Gully, Scalby Lodge this evening. The three Ruddy Shelducks were still at East Lake, North Yorkshire Water Park. also an Egyptian Goose, 4 Wigeon, and 72 Lapwings. 150 Pink-footed Geese south over town late afternoon. No sign of the Cattle Egret at Potter Brompton Carr today; 3 Great White Egrets, 6 Little Egrets, 70 Teal, 3 Marsh Harriers, 6 Yellow Wagtails, and 2 Wheatears. A Spotted Flycatcher at Scalby Mills this morning.

 The Cattle Egret was still at Potter Brompton Carr this morning. Also there a Great White Egret, 5 Little Egrets, 3 Marsh Harriers,  120 Pink-footed Geese, 1 Snipe, and a Jay. A Barred Warbler was found in "Trough Gully" (2nd gully north of Jackson's Bay) mid-morning, it moved north to "Stile Scrub" (next gully north) where it showed very briefly around midday but no further sightings. 12 Whooper Swans and a Great White Egret flew south past Long Nab. A single Pink-footed Goose was at Scalby Mills and 11 in fields at Long Nab. A pool just north of Sherburn held 1 Ruff. A Raven flew south over town. The 3 Ruddy Shelduck were still on East Lake at NY Water Park. Scalby Mills had 2 Arctic, 10 Common, 8 Sandwich Terns, 4 Wigeon, and 10 Ringed Plovers.

Cattle Egret at Potter Brompton Carr from late morning, still present early evening (only view from Haybridge). Also there 2 Great White Egrets, 6 Little Egrets, 2 Marsh Harriers, Pink-footed Goose, Shoveler, and 3 Little Grebes. 123 Lapwing and 230 Starling at Star Carr. A Richard's Pipit flew south at Lebberston Cliff early morning and appeared to land in rough pasture at Yons Nab. It was looked for at midday without success. A male Hen Harrier was near Scampston. Two Mediterranean Gulls (adult + 2nd winter), 33 Sandwich Terns and 7 Ringed Plovers at Scalby Mills. A Pomarine Skua flew north at Long Nab, also 4 Whooper Swans flew south there. A Bar-tailed Godwit in Jackson's Bay.

 A productive seawatch at Long Nab today. Highlights included Black Guillemot, Balearic Shearwater, 6 Sooty Shearwaters, Pomerine Skua, 2 Red-breasted Mergansers, 3 Grey Plover, 176 (172 south) Red-throated Divers, and a 1cy Yellow-legged Gull. The Whinchat was still at the cover crop there. Three Ruddy Shelducks were at East Lake, NY Water Park. Also there were Egyptian Goose, 713 Greylag Geese, 112 Lapwing, 9 Swallows. Nine Ringed Plovers, 21 Common Terns at Scalby Mills. A Raven flew south over the town at 11:35am. At Potter Brompton Carr; 2 Great White Egrets, 7 Little Egrets, adult female Marsh Harrier, 25 Snipe, 76 Lapwing, 31 Teal, 12 Wigeon, 2 Water Rails, and 67 Pink-footed Geese flew south. A Kingfisher was in the harbour mouth.

 With a swing in the wind to westerly there were less passerines on the move but Pink-footed Geese were flooding south all morning, and again after sunset this evening. A total of 1,984 flew south at Long Nab, also a Common Swift south there, plus a Little Gull north. Two Whinchats, and a Whitethroat present. A Common Sandpiper was in Burniston Bay. A Raven flew south past South Cliff. 39 Turnstones at the harbour high tide roost.  28 Turnstones at Jackson's Bay.

 A massive day of southerly Meadow Pipit movement; 9,522 observed from South Cliff, also 483 Pink-footed Geese, 14 Grey Wagtails, 2 Jays, and 619 Siskins south there. A Merlin, Whinchat, and Garden Warbler at Long Nab, a Marsh Harrier, 39 Skylarks and 9 Rock Pipits flew south. Two Grey Plovers, Bar-tailed Godwit, 3 Dunlin, 5 Ringed Plover at Jackson's Bay. Three Turtle Doves were on telephone wires between Brompton and Snainton.

 Another quiet seawatch at Long Nab, 6 Little Gulls flew north, and a Common Sandpiper was on the rocks. An increase in wildfowl at Johnson's Marsh; 9 Wigeon, 66 Mallard, 30 Teal. Two Kingfishers at Peasholm Park lake. A Blackcap in a Burniston garden.

 The first Brambling of autumn was at Newlands Rd, Cloughton. Two Little Gulls, Yellow-legged Gull (1cy), 2 Arctic and a Great Skua, Whimbrel, and 17 Golden Plover past Long Nab this morning in very heavy rain. A Ringed Plover at flood water by Crook Ness car park.

 A Blackcap and four Chiffchaff were at |Scarborough Castle and a Pied Flycatcher was by the Archway on Castle Hill. A  Dipper on Thornton Beck, a juvenile Marsh Harrier was at the East Lake, North Yorkshire Water Park and seven Common Sandpiper and five Grey Heron were at Scalby Mills. A Bar-tailed Godwit, two Dunlin and five Teal were at Jackson's Bay. At Johnson's Marsh today; 24 Grey Heron, 13 Wigeon, six Moorhen, four Coot and four Teal. At Potter Brompton Carr from Heybridge; one Great Egret, three Little Egret, one cream crown Marsh Harrier and a Little Stint.

 15 House Martins were over Cayton this morning, a Black Tern feeding in Cornelian Bay slowly moved south and an Arctic Skua was off Marine Drive. A Kingfisher was at Scalby Mills. A Pied Flycatcher was on the SE corner of Castle Hills and three Stonechat were on the tops. Highlights past Long Nab this morning; one  Red-breasted Merganser N, seven Sooty Shearwaters (6N, 1S), 20 Arctic Skuas (18S, 2N), two juvenile Long-tailed Skuas S, one Great Skua N and a first calendar year Caspian Gull S, At Potter Brompton Carr viewed from Heybridge; seven Little Egret, 55 Teal, one Wigeon, two cream crown Marsh Harrier, one Hobby, 120 Lapwing, six Dunlin, one Little Stint, one Kingfisher, 13Yellow Wagtail and one Grey Wagtail. Further highlights this afternoon past Long Nab: Four Sooty Shearwaters (3N,1S), one Little Gull N and seven Arctic Skuas, (2N, 5S). A Caspian Gull and 61 Cormorant were at South Cliff.

 Three Tawny Owls were calling in the area of Trafalgar Road/Trafalgar Square in the early hours. Two Little Egret and an immature Marsh Harrier were at Potter Brompton Carr. (Most birds now moved on).Three Willow Tit, one Marsh Tit, two Blackcap, one Nuthatch and seven Crossbill were in the Haygate area of Dalby. Many seabirds feeding on bait fish on a calm sea today. Approximately 30 Common Tern, six Sandwich Tern, a Great Northern Diver and a Canada Goose were amongst Auks and Gannets in North Bay and an Arctic Skua was off Marine Drive. Highlights south past Long Nab this afternoon; Single Balearic Shearwater, single Sooty Shearwater, three Manx Shearwater (3N), one Arctic Skua (1N) and 18 Swallow. Two 1st calendar year Yellow-legged Gulls flew north. Four Swallow flew north at Jackson's Bay.

 Approximately 50 Pink-footed Geese flew south west over Livingstone Road this morning and three Wigeon, two Shoveler and seven Teal were at Johnson's Marsh. Highlights south through South Cliff this morning were 113 Pink-footed Geese, 736 Meadow Pipit, 16 Grey Wagtail, three Yellow Wagtail and 86 Siskin. Approximately 12 Common Terns were feeding off Scalby Ness and a Bar-tailed Godwit and a Curlew were in Jackson's Bay with Sandwich and Common Terns feeding offshore. At Long Nab this morning between 0800hrs to 1430hrs; three Arctic Skua past north (15S), two Sooty Shearwater, six Manx Shearwater, approximately 200 Common Scoter and 60 Teal also north. A Sooty Shearwater was feeding offshore at Jackson's Bay along with 150+ Gannets. Approximately 20 House Martins were feeding over East Ayton this evening. Two Tawny Owls were calling Stepney Road late evening.

 A GREAT SHEARWATER, initially seen off Filey Brigg at 0655hrs, was tracked north by observers at Cornelian at 0713hrs, Marine Drive at 0727hrs and then off Long Nab at 0732hrs. A Balearic Shearwater passed south at Cornelian and a juvenile Long-tailed Skua was on the sea there. 17 Common Terns were noted at Scalby Mills along with six Redshank, one Curlew and a Grey Wagtail. Approximately 200 Gannets were feeding off Marine Drive and a large number of Auks were feeding off South Bay and in the harbour. A 1st calendar year Caspian Gull flew north past Long Nab along with three Manx Shearwater and 12 Arctic Skua (1S). A Dark-bellied Brent Goose flew south. An immature Little Ringed Plover, one Common Sandpiper, 10 Teal, 72 Lapwing, 235 Greylag Geese and 205 Canada Geese were at the East Lake, North Yorkshire Water Park this afternoon.

 Two Caspian Gull were in Cornelian Bay this morning. 68 Pink-footed Geese flew south there and two Ruff arrived from the east. Highlights north past Long Nab this afternoon; One Balearic Shearwater, two 1cy Caspian Gull (1S), one 1cyYellow-legged Gull (1S), seven Arctic Skua (1S), one Great Skua (2S) and an adult Mediterranean Gull.

 A Little Egret was at Johnson's Marsh this morning and a Wheatear was near Scalby Lodge hide. 779 Meadow Pipits, six Grey Wagtail and one Yellow Wagtail flew south at South Cliff. A Caspian Gull and four Eider were in South Bay. Eight Ruff, two Common Sandpiper, four Teal, 15 Great Black backed Gull, approximately 110 Canada Geese, two Jay and one Marsh Tit were at the East lake at North Yorkshire Water Park. A Little Grebe was on the Match Lake.

 10 Dunlin were at Scalby Mills early morning with uncounted Common Terns feeding offshore. Single Grey Plover, Bar-tailed Godwit and  Little Egret, two Common Sandpiper, four Dunlin, three Ringed Plover, c30 Turnstone, 16 Redshank20 Oystercatcher, two Curlew and 36 Teal were at Jackson's Bay. An adult Mediterranean Gull flew south at Long Nab. Present there were a second calendar year Caspian Gull, a Little Owl, a Wheatear and 29 Tree Sparrow.

 Two juv Spotted Redshank and a Curlew Sandpiper were new in at Potter Brompton Carr. Also there were a Cetti's Warbler (only the third Scarborough record!), 4 Garganey, Water Rail, 3 Great White Egrets, 2 Marsh Harriers, Common Sandpiper, LRP, 4 Ringed Plover, Dunlin, 2 Greenshank, 6 Ruff, Kingfisher, Whinchat, 5 Yellow Wagtails, and a Peregrine. 179 Swallows on wires at Burniston left southbound. Highlights past Long Nab; juv Long-tailed Skua, 2 Pintail, 464 Teal. A 1cy Caspian Gull at Scalby Mills, also 20 Wigeon, 4 curlews, 3 Whimbrel, 12 Common Terns. Bar-tailed Godwit, Dunlin, 6 Ringed Plovers Jackson's Bay. A Tawny Owl was calling late evening in Stepney.

The BROWN BOOBY finally made it to Scarborough, seen by two observers as it passed close by Long Nab at 07:30. Subsequently it passed Cowbar, Hartlepool, then returned south to be well watched feeding in the mouth of the River Tees. Highlights past Long Nab included two juvenile Long-tailed Skuas (a third bird south past Cornelian Bay), also 18 Arctic Skuas, 2 Caspian Gulls, 2316 Gannets, and 2 Sooty Shearwaters. 20 long-tailed Tits North Bay. At Potter Brompton Carr; 27 Pink-footed Geese, 3 Ruff, juv marsh Harrier, 14 Little Egrets, 2 Great White Egrets, 2 Yellow Wagtails.

 A Raven flew south over South Cliff Golf Course this morning, also three adult Little Gulls south there. Three Sooty Shearwaters, 2 Pintail, 3 Goosanders and a Great Crested Grebe north past Long Nab, Little Egret, 51 Knot flew south. Also 3 Wheatears by the bird observatory. North Yorkshire Water Park; 2 Reed Warblers, 1 Sedge Warbler, 2 Sand Martins. A Dunlin in Jackson's Bay.

 An influx of Wheatears today; two at Long Nab, four on the rock armour at Marine Drive. Also a Whinchat at Long Nab, 511 Meadow Pipits flew south. A Hobby was hunting House Martins over Middle Deepdale.  A juvenile Long-tailed Skua moved north from Filey this afternoon and entered Scarborough waters. A Wood Sandpiper was at Potter Brompton Carr this evening, also a Common Sandpiper, and 3 juvenile Marsh Harriers. 150 Common Terns and 80 Little Gulls feeding offshore from Cornelian Bay this evening. A single Little Gull flew north at Long Nab, southbound were 4 Swifts, Mediterranean Gull, 2 Little Egrets, 392 Swallows, 646 House Martins, 353 Meadow Pipits, and a Tree Pipit.

 Seven Sanderling, 2 Ringed Plover at Cayton Bay.  Four Sooty Shearwaters (2N, 2S)  past Cornelian Bay.  11 Common Buzzards south past Long Nab, also a Merlin north (in off the sea), 2 Pintail, ad Little Gull north. Three Caspian Gulls, and a Yellow-legged Gull south. A Wheatear by the observatory. A Raven west over Long Causeway Road. A Hobby over Cayton. A Marsh Harrier west over Cayton Bay.

 Good numbers of terns moving this afternoon; north past Cornelian Bay were 502 Sandwich, 719 Common, one Black Tern, 4 Roseate Terns, plus an adult Sabine's Gull north at 13.09 hrs. Two Caspian Gulls were offshore, and three adult Little Gulls flew south. In 12.75 hours at Long Nab; 1,138 Teal, 7 Pintail, 2 Little Gulls, 6 Caspian Gulls, 2 Yellow-legged Gulls, 5 Roseate Terns, 49 Arctic Skuas, a juvenile Long-tailed Skua, and 2 Sooty Shearwaters. The Teal at Johnson's Marsh had increased to 31. Little Egret at Wrench Green, Green Sandpiper at Coverdale Moor. The Wood Sandpiper, and one Garganey were still at Potter Brompton Carr, also 8 Dunlin (+18 over), 3 Ringed Plover (+ 6 over), 2 LRP, 4 Green Sandpipers, 3 Great White Egrets, 7 Little Egrets, 2 Marsh Harriers, 8 Yellow Wagtails, and 2 Sedge Warblers.
