Tuesday 29th April 2014

Three Garganey, 2 drakes and a duck, on Flotmanby Carr were the highlight of a rather quiet day, also there were 2 Shelduck, 2 Gadwall and 8 Yellow Wagtail. Seen elsewhere were the Whooper Swan, 2 Egyptian Geese, a Shoveler, a Wood Sandpiper and a Snipe on Potter Brompton Carr (no general access), 21 Whimbrel, a Cuckoo and 18 Wheatear on Flixton Carr, a Fieldfare and a Grasshopper Warbler were at Nabgate.

Monday 28th April 2014

Potter Brompton Carr produced the two best records of the day, a new Spotted Redshank had replaced the bird that was present on the 25th and 26th, a Wood Sandpiper was new for the year and 2 Egyptian Geese and 2 Shoveler were also there.
Elsewhere 7 Whimbrel were at Burton Riggs and 12 were on Star Carr and a Dunlin, 6 White Wagtail and a Wheatear were at Wykeham South Lake.
Migrants seen along the coast between Long Nab and South Cliff were 2 Wheatear, 1 Stonechat (South Cliff), 2 Blackcap, 5 Whitethroat, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 6 Willow Warbler and 9 Chiffchaff.
On the move were 5 Sand Martin, 2 Swallow and a Flava south and a Whimbrel and a Tree Pipit north.

A much quieter day in comparison to the last few, though poor weather had a large effect on that.
On the move past Long Nab (north unless stated) were 1 Black-throated Diver, 4 Fulmar + 4 south, 114 Gannet + 12 south, 5 Cormorant south, 2 Greylag Geese, 2 Eider south, 2 Common Scoter south, 1 Whimbrel, 2 Common Gull + 9 south, 6 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 2 Great Black-backed Gull + 3 south, 20 Kittiwake + 53 south, 6 Swallow, 2 Goldfinch south and 2 Linnet south.
The first Turtle Dove of the year was seem in Snainton, at Seamer Tip there were 3 Shelduck, 3 Wheatear, 8 Whitethroat, 1 Sedge Warbler and 2 Whimbrel flew north, 6 Tree Pipit, 1 Yellow Wagtail, 2 Redstart, a Garden Warbler and 5 Blackcap were in the Ellerburn area and another Garden Warbler was at Throxenby Mere.
Arctic Terns were still on the move with 12 northeast over Spring Bank and 3 through Wykeham South Lake, 17 Sandwich Tern were off Stoupe Beck and a Golden Plover, a Redshank, a Greenshank, a Bar-tailed Godwit and 3 Curlew were on Scalby Lodge Pond.
Migrants along the coast between Boggle Hole and Scalby Mills included 6 Blackcap, 3 Lesser Whitethroat, 5 Whitethroat, 3 Willow Warbler and 3 Chiffchaff.

A disappointing day for migrants despite the promising conditions, seen between Long Nab and Cornelian Bay were 7 Wheatear, 2 Yellow Wagtail, 18 Whitethroat, 9 Lesser Whitethroat, 14 Willow Warbler and 3 Chiffchaff.
Elsewhere a Red-throated Diver, 2 Common Scoter, 4 Turnstone and a Common Sandpiper were in Cornelian Bay, 3 Common Scoter were off Marine Drive, Wykeham South Lake produced the 9 Egyptian Geese, a Goldeneye, the first Hobby of the year, 2 Little Ringed Plover, 1 Redshank and a Kingfisher, moving east through the site was a single Dunlin and 11 Arctic Tern and a Bar-tailed Godwit and 3 Whimbrel moved off southwest, at Potter Brompton Carr (no general access) the Spotted Redshank remained along with 2 Egyptian Geese, 4 Gadwall, 8 Teal, 1 Wigeon, 2 Greenshank (first of the year), 3 Whimbrel and a Snipe.
On the move (north unless stated) were 1 Red-throated Diver, 38 Fulmar + 19 south, 92 Gannet + 67 south, 1 Cormorant + 3 south, 1 Shag, 3 Greylag Geese south, 3 Shelduck, 7 Common Scoter south, 1 Sparrowhawk south, 1 Kestrel south, 1 Ringed Plover, 2 Bar-tailed Godwit south, 4 Whimbrel, 2 Curlew south, 12 Common Gull + 3 south, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull + 3 south, 5 Great Black-backed Gull south, 470 Kittiwake, 7 Sandwich Tern + 13 south, 2 Arctic Tern south, 3 Sand Martin south, 2 Swallow + 34 south, 1 House Martin south, 1 Tree Pipit, 9 Meadow Pipit + 2 south, 1 possible Water Pipit south, 1 Flava + 11 south, 1 Blackbird south, 13 Carrion Crow + 5 south, 43 Goldfinch south 4 Linnet + 62 south.

Of interest a Pod of 6+ Bottlenose Dolphin first seen heading north at Filey finially made an appearance in North Bay at 13.25hrs and were later seen passing north at Long Nab.

There was no sign of the Tawny Pipit on South Cliff which came as no surprise given the thick fog and heavy rain which made birding almost impossible, very few migrants were seen along the coast as a result, between Long Nab and South Cliff were 3 Wheatear, the first Whinchat (Castle Hill), 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 1 Whitethroat, 2 Blackcap, 10 Chiffchaff, 2 Willow Warbler and 1 Goldcrest.
A Spotted Redshank on Potter Bromton Carr (no general access) was the first of the year, also present there were 4 Gadwall, 10 Teal and a Wigeon and 21 Whimbrel, a Cuckoo and 18 Wheatear were on Flixton Carr.

The clear highlight of the day was the discovery of Scarborough's first ever TAWNY PIPIT on South Cliff Golf Course, the 2nd addition to the Scarborough list in four days following the Short-toed Lark on the 20th.
The Pipit was associating with a loose flock of Wagtails and Wheatears on the Golf Course but was often flushed by the many Golfers, it was present from the time of discovery at 08.50hrs until late morning when thick fog rolled in for the remainder of the day.
Other migrants between Long Nab and Cornelian Bay were 2 Whimbrel, 6 Wheatear, 8 Yellow Wagtail, 4 White Wagtail, 1 Ring Ouzel (Cornelian Bay), 4 Lesser Whitethroat, 4 Whitethroat, 5 Blackcap, 1 Sedge Warbler, 1 Grasshopper Warbler (Long Nab), 2 Willow Warbler, 13 Chiffchaff and 1 Firecrest (Crook Ness).
Elsewhere a Mandarin was at the Mere, 2 Shoveler, 4 Little Ringed Plover, 1 Common Snadpiper, 2 Dunlin, 1 Whimbrel, 1 Kingfisher and a Wheater were at Wykeham South Lake and 6 Lesser Whitethroat were in Hutton Buscle.

A trickle of passage during the morning at Long Nab produced the following (south unless stated) 2 Red-throated Diver, 1 Shag, 2 Greylag Geese north, 2 Common Scoter north, 2 Red Kite north, 1 Kestrel north, 1 Dunlin, 2 Whimbrel north, 2 Curlew north, 5 Black-headed Gull, 5 Sandwich Tern north, 1 Swift, 1 Skylark, 72 Sand Martin, 128 Swallow + 17 north, 9 House Martin, 8 Meadow Pipit + 2 north, 1 Rock Pipit north, 27 Flava + 2 north, 2 Alba north, 2 Rook, 2 Carrion Crow + 6 north, 80 Goldfinch and 97 Linnet.
Migrants seen between Long Nab and Cornelian Bay included 1 Tree Pipit ( Long Nab), 4 Yellow Wagtail, 5 Wheatear, 5 Lesser Whitethroat, 6 Whitethroat, 4 Blackcap, 2 Grasshopper Warbler (Long Nab, Cornelian Bay), 14 Chiffchaff, 6 Willow Warbler, 1 Goldcrest and 1 Corn Bunting (Cromer Point).
Also reported were 4 Shelduck, 2 Dunlin and 2 Yellow Wagtail at Scalby Lodge Pond, a Whooper Swan (latest spring record), 6 Gadwall, 2 Shoveler, a Wigeon, a Little Ringed Plover, 8 Snipe and a Yellow Wagtail on Potter Brompton Carr (no general access), 2 Gadwall, 2 Shoveler and 2 Wheatear on Star Carr, 2 Shelduck an Eider and 2 Common Scoter in Cornelian Bay and 9 Wheatear on Seamer Carr.

Despite the heavy rain and foggy conditions hampering birding it was evident that at least a few bits had arrived, between Long Nab and Cornelian Bay were 6 Blackcap, 1 Whitethroat, 3 Lesser Whitethroat, 1 Sedge Warbler, the first Grasshopper Warbler of the year (Long Nab), 16 Chiffchaff and 2 Willow Warbler.
At Wykeham South Lake 8 Arctic Tern flew northeast, also there were the Egyptian Geese, 4 Little Ringed Plover, a Common Sandpiper, 2 Dunlin, 30+ Common Gull, 500+ Herring Gull, 12 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 1 adult Yellow-legged Gull, the first Swift of the year, 40 Swallow, 70 Sand Martin and 4 Yellow Wagtail, a Barnacle Goose, a Black-tailed Godwit, a Snipe, 10 Swallow, a House Martin and 50 Sand Martin were at Harwood Dale Lake, 6 Gadwall, 4 Teal, 2 Shoveler, a Wigeon, 360 Common Gull, 20 Swallow, 6 House Martin, 32 Sand Martin, a Yellow Wagtail and 3 Fieldfare were on Potter Brompton Carr (no general access), 2 Gadwall and 2 Teal were on Flotmanby Carr, a Marsh Harrier was at Well Springs, a Little Ringed Plover and a Redshank were on Scalby Lodge Pond and a Green Sandpiper was on Johnson's Marsh.
On the move (north unless stated) were 1 Ringed Plover, 1 Golden Plover southwest, 2 Curlew, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 1 House Martin, 8 Alba in off and 7 Linnet.

There was no sign of the Short-toed Lark at Long Nab during the day but it was an interesting day with a couple more year ticks bringing the total to 178 by the end of the day.
At Wykeham South Lake a Black-tailed Godwit (first of the year) left to the southwest after a short stay and 3 Arctic Tern passed northeast during the afternoon, also present there were the 9 Egyptian Geese, 2 Little Ringed Plover, 2 Common Sandpiper, 55 Sand Martin, 2 House Martin and a Yellow Wagtail. In the Seamer Tip area the first two Sedge Warbler of the year were reported, Wheatears were seen at Long Nab and South Cliff and 2 Golden Plover were also at Long Nab.
On the move (north unless stated) were 1 Red-throated Diver + 1 south, 41 Fulmar + 16 south, 80 Gannet + 97 south, 3 Cormorant + 1 south, 7 Shag, 5 Common Scoter + 3 south, 2 Red Kite, 1 Kestrel, 1 Whimbrel, 2 Curlew south, 1 Black-headed Gull + 3 south, 63 Common Gull + 3 south, 2 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 41 Great Black-backed Gull, 156 Kittiwake + 60 south, 12 Sandwich Tern + 18 south, 1 Common Tern south, 180 Auk sp + 70 south, 1 Puffin south, 4 Wood Pigeon, 2 Sand Martin, 11 Swallow, 3 Meadow Pipit, 1 Rock Pipit, 2 Flava, 17 Carrion Crow + 6 south, 4 Goldfinch and 26 Linnet.

The first ever SHORT-TOED LARK for Scarborough was a top find at Long Nab during the morning, the bird frequented the 'Lapland Bunting field' just north of the Hut and spent much of its time feeding by the Cleveland Way, often showing very well!
Also at Long Nab there was a Whitethroat and 330 Linnet.
Elsewhere 5 Arctic Tern passed through Wykeham South Lake during the afternoon, also present there were the Egyptian Geese, 5 Teal, 2 Tufted Duck, 5 Oystercatcher and a Little Ringed Plover.
On the move (north unless stated) were 16 Fulmar + 3 south, 41 Gannet + 24 south, 1 Cormorant south, 3 Greylag Geese south, 2 Shelduck, 3 Common Scoter, 17 Common Gull south, 4 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 9 Great Black-backed Gull, 110 Kittiwake, 2 Sandwich Tern + 2 south, 870 Auk sp + 70 south, 23 Puffin, 3 Sand Martin, 3 Swallow, 1 Meadow Pipit, 1 Fieldfare, 2 Carrion Crow, 7 Goldfinch and 15 Linnet + 8 south.

Friday 18th - Saturday 19th April 2014

The 18th was a quiet day with very little coverage, the Ruff remained at Potter Brompton Carr (no general access) where there was also 2 Shelduck, 6 Gadwall and 2 Dunlin and the second Whitethroat and Tree Pipit were reported.
A couple of year ticks on the 19th brightened up another fairly quiet day. A Cuckoo was at Jugger Howe Moor and a Garden Warbler was in Wykeham Forest. Elsewhere the Egyptian Geese, 2 Shelduck, a Goldeneye and a Common Sandpiper were at Wykeham South Lake, 6 Gadwall, a Wigeon and 4 Snipe were on Potter Brompton Carr and a Blackcap, 2 Lesser Whitethroat, a Willow Warbler and 385 Linnet were at Long Nab.
On the move at Long Nab (north unless stated) were 27 Fulmar, 14 Gannet, 1 Shelduck south, 115 Kittiwake, 157 Auk sp +2 south, 2 Meadow Pipit south and 2 Goldfinch.

Another steady day, migrants seen between Scalby Beck and Cornelian Bay were 3 Wheatear, 1 Redstart, first of the year (Scalby Beck), 2 Ring Ouzel (South Cliff), 3 Lesser Whitethroat (2 Scalby Beck, 1 South Cliff), 8 Blackcap, 13 Chiffchaff and 4 Willow Warbler.
Inland a female Common Scoter and 4 Wheatear were at Wykeham South Lake, the first Whitethroat of the year was at Seamer Tip along with a pair of Shoveler and a pair of Gadwall were on Star Carr.
On the move (north unless stated) were 1 Gannet south, 18 Pink-footed Geese, 2 Shelduck, 12 Black-headed Gull south, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 9 Auk sp south, 11 Sand Martin + 1 south, 3 Swallow + 2 south, 2 House Martin, 83 Meadow Pipit + 1 south, 1 Flava, 2 Alba + 1 south, 7 Carrion Crow, 13 Goldfinch + 7 south, 66 Linnet and 1 Lesser Redpoll.

A great day all round with plenty of additions to the year list taking the 2014 total to 170. Although coastal migrants were thin on the ground a good spring count of Ring Ouzel was noteworthy. Seen between Ravenscar and Cayton Bay were, 4 Ring Ouzel (1 Ravenscar, 1 South Cliff, 2 Cayton Bay), 5 Blackcap, 1 Lesser Whitethroat (South Cliff) and 16 Chiffchaff.
Elsewhere 6 Great Crested Grebe, the 9 Egyptian Geese and 4 Little Ringed Plover were at Wykeham South Lake, on Potter Brompton Carr (no general access) there were 2 Shoveler, 2 Gadwall, a Ruff (first of the year), 35 Sand Martin and 5 Swallow, a Grey Plover (first of the year) was on Black Rocks, a Water Rail was seen crossing the road in Staintondale, a Green Woodpecker was on Penny Howe Moor and 300 Linnet were at Long Nab.
It was a fairly good day for passage too, on the move (south unless stated) were 2 Red-throated Diver north, 1 Fulmar + 9 north, 65 Gannet + 227 north, 5 Cormorant + 5 north, 3 Shag north, 2 Greylag Geese + 6 north, 1 Canada Goose, 1 Gadwall north, 2 Teal + 4 north, 3 Common Scoter + 3 north, 1 cream crown Marsh Harrier, 1 Red Kite (over Foulsike), 1 Merlin north, 1 Whimbrel north (first of the year), 1 Black-headed Gull, 1 Common Gull, 4 Great Black-backed Gull, 62 Kittiwake north, 3 Sandwich Tern + 1 north, 2 Common Tern (first of the year), 330 Auk sp + 429 north, 2 Puffin north, 1 Stock Dove, 8 Wood Pigeon north, 14 Sand Martin + 2 north, 12 Swallow + 1 north, 8 Meadow Pipit, 9 Flava, 1 Alba, 1 Jackdaw north, 1 Rook north, 2 Carrion Crow + 59 north, 1 Chaffinch, 27 Goldfinch + 1 north, and 343 Linnet + 19 north.

On the move at Long Nab (south unless stated) were 2 Red-throated Diver north, 112 Fulmar north, 18 Gannet + 358 north, 4 Cormorant + 1 north, 10 Shag north, 1 Shelduck, 6 Eider, 1 Common Scoter + 8 north, 2 Sparrowhawk, 3 Goshawk east (over Ravenscar!), 2 Kestrel north, 1 Merlin, 1 Peregrine, 4 Black-headed Gull, 3 Common Gull + 99 north, 4 Great Black-backed Gull + 1 north, 19 Kittiwake + 479 north, 3 Sandwich Tern north, 3 Auk sp + 620 north, 1 Puffin north (first of the year), 1 Stock Dove, 8 Sand Martin north, 4 Swallow + 4 north, 10 Meadow Pipit, 2 Flava, 3 Alba north, 2 Magpie, 2 Jackdaw, 7 Carrion Crow + 20 north, 6 Goldfinch north and 103 Linnet + 6 north.
Elsewhere things were a little quiet, Hirundine numbers had increased throughout the area with at least 8 Swallow over Scalby Lodge Pond where there were also 4 Shelduck and 2 White Wagtail, 2 Little Ringed Plover were at Seamer Tip and the Egyptian Goose family was seen again at Wykeham South Lake.

The first Lesser Whitethroat of the year was in song at Boggle Hole where there were 2 Sandwich Tern and 7 Swallow. The 9 Egyptian Geese, 4 Teal and 2 Swallow were at Wykeham South lake, an Egyptian Goose and a Pintail were on Potter Brompton Carr (no general access), 2 Shelduck, a Shoveler, a Little Ringed Plover and 7 Sand Martin were at Seamer Tip, a Green Sandpiper was heard at Town Farm Pond, a White Wagtail was on Rudda Road Flash, 2 White Wagtail and a Wheatear were at Flotmanby Carr and 12 Sand Martin were back in the colony at Stoupe Beck.

A few more additions to the year list today with a House Martin over Valley Road and a Yellow Wagtail at Wykeham South Lake where there was also 15 Pink-footed Geese, 1 Gadwall, 1 Wigeon, 19 Tufted Duck, 1 Goldeneye, 4 Little Ringed Plover, 3 Swallow and 8 Sand Martin.

At Wykeham South Lake there were the Egyptian Geese, 15 Pink-footed Geese, 2 Gadwall, 1 Wigeon, 5 Goldeneye and a female Common Scoter, 2 Little Ringed Plover and 13 Sand Martin, 2 Red Kite flew over Staxton towards Wykeham at 11.20hrs and a Little Ringed Plover, a Common Sandpiper (first of the year), 4 Swallow and 20 Sand Martin were at Harwood Dale Lake.
Along the coast between Long Nab and South Cliff were 1 Snipe, 4 Wheatear, 1 White Wagtail and 320 Linnet.
On the move at Long Nab (north unless stated) were 1 Red-throated Diver + 2 south, 4 Fulmar, 20 Gannet + 47 south, 2 Cormorant + 6 south, 1 Shag, 1 Canada Goose, 5 Eider, 2 Common Scoter + 9 south, 5 Oystercatcher south, 3 Curlew, 19 Black-headed Gull, 13 Common Gull + 10 south, 10 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 119 Herring Gull, 7 Great Black-backed Gull + 3 south, 9 Kittiwake + 21 south, 1 Sandwich Tern, 41 Auk sp + 58 south, 4 Wood Pigeon south, 3 Sand Martin south, 30 Meadow Pipit, 2 Alba + 2 south, 2 Carrion Crow + 8 south, 1 Starling south, 4 Goldfinch south and 67 Linnet + 43 south.

A Great Grey Shrike was seen at Heckdale Tops, Dalby Forest which could be the same individual seen at Sieve Dale back on the 7th March. Also seen in Dalby Forest was the first Tree Pipit of the year, 3 Blackcap, 4 Willow Warbler and 6 Chiffchaff. The 9 Egyptian Geese, a Gadwall, 5 Wigeon, 2 Pochard, 3 Little Ringed Plover, 18 Sand Martin and 1 Willow Warbler were at Wykeham South Lake, 19 Sand Martin and 3 Swallow were at Harwood Dale Lake and 270+ Linnet were at Long Nab and the 4 White Wagtail at Scalby Lodge Pond remained.
On the move (north unless stated) were 1 Curlew, 1 Black-headed Gull, 22 Meadow Pipit, 3 Alba south, 1 Sand Martin, 1 Rook, 4 Linnet and 3 Goldfinch.

There was a scattering of migrants along the coast with a Ring Ouzel (South Cliff), 8 White Wagtail (4 Holbeck, 4 Scalby Lodge Pond), 11 Chiffchaff and a Willow Warbler between Scalby Lodge Pond and Cornelian Bay.
A Red Kite, 4 Little Owl, a Blackcap and a Willow Warbler were seen at Low Marishes and a Gadwall and a Lesser Black-backed Gull were at Scalby Mills.

The highlight of a very quiet day was a female Hen Harrier near Burn Howe.
Elsewhere 9 Egyptian Geese (2 adults and 7 goslings!) were at Wykeham South Lake where there were also 8 Great Crested Grebe, 2 Shelduck, 3 Gadwall, 9 Teal, 2 Goldeneye, 3 Little Ringed Plover, 6 Sand Martin and a White Wagtail, 2 Bar-tailed Godwit were in Jackson's Bay, a Blackcap, 2 Chiffchaff, the Snow Bunting and 250 Linnet were at Long Nab, 3 Blackcap and 6 Chiffchaff were in song at Seamer Mere, a Swallow, a Blackcap and a Willow Warbler were at Burton Riggs, another Swallow was at Seamer Tip, a Nuthatch was in Peasholme Park.
A very slow day for passage produced the following (south unless stated) 5 Gannet north, 16 Black-headed Gull north, 2 Sand Martin north, 10 Meadow Pipit + 2 north, 8 Carrion Crow, 1 Goldfinch and 49 Linnet + 86 north.

A fairly quiet day with the highlight being a Green Woodpecker at Wykeham South Lake, a generally scarce species within the area.
Elsewhere a Red-throated Diver was off Scalby Mills, 2 Bar-tailed Godwit were in Jackson's Bay and 130 Fieldfare were in Thornton-le-Dale and a Willow Warbler was at Burton Riggs.

Grounded along the coast between Long Nab and South Cliff were 1 Woodcock (South Cliff), 6 Blackbird, 1 Blackcap, 1 Willow Warbler, 7 Chiffchaff and 1 Snow Bunting (Long Nab).
At Wykeham South Lake the Egyptian Goose and Pink-footed Goose were still present along with 2 Goldeneye, 5 Shelduck were on Scalby Lodge Pond, a single Sand Martin was at Harwood Dale Lake, a Kingfisher was at Brompton Bridge and 13 Fieldfare and 3 Redwing were at Brompton Ings.
On the move during the day (south unless stated) were 10 Red-throated Diver, 9 Fulmar + 13 north (including one 'blue' Fulmar), 1 Gannet, 11 Greylag Geese, 3 Shelduck, 11 Common Scoter, 12 Curlew + 4 north, 16 Common Gull + 7 north, 2 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 38 Herring Gull north, 3 Great Black-backed Gull + 1 north, 76 Kittiwake + 9 north, 9 Auk sp, 9 Wood Pigeon, 64 Meadow Pipit, 1 Rock Pipit, 1 Alba, 2 Jackdaw, 1 Rook, 4 Carrion Crow, 1 Chaffinch, 94 Linnet + 4 north, 1 Reed Bunting and 1 Corn Bunting (first singing behind the Hut before leaving south).

It was a good day for passage at Long Nab, on the move (south unless sated) were 1 Red-throated Diver, 13 Fulmar + 4 north, 7 Gannet + 6 north, 5 Cormorant + 4 north, 2 Shag north, 10 Greylag Geese + 18 north, 2 Mallard, 3 Tufted Duck north, 4 Eider north, 1 Common Scoter north, 1 cream crown Marsh Harrier (first of the year), 1 Buzzard north, 9 Curlew north, 1 Black-headed Gull, 19 Common Gull + 34 north, 5 Lesser Black-backed Gull + 7 north, 31 Great Black-backed Gull + 8 north, 42 Kittiwake + 2 north, 2 Auk sp + 2 north, 44 Wood Pigeon + 4 north, 18 Sand Martin + 1 north, 1 Swallow (first of the year), 104 Meadow Pipit, 11 Alba + 1 north, 3 Magpie north, 2 Jackdaw, 5 Rook, 21 Carrion Crow + 5 north, 9 Starling, 26 Chaffinch, 33 Goldfinch and 605 Linnet + 14 north.
Elsewhere 1 Egyptian Goose, 1 Pink-footed Goose, 1 Shoveler, 1 Common Scoter and 3 Little Ringed Plover were at Wykeham South Lake, 7 Teal and 6 Wigeon were on Johnson's Marsh, male Blackcaps were noted at Cober Hill, in Falsgrave Park and in Cornelian Bay where there were also 2 Eider, a male Snow Bunting was at Long Nab.

The year's first Willow Warbler was in song up at Wykeham Forest and a Woodcock was also seen there.
Potter Brompton Carr (no general access) held 3 Gadwall, 9 Teal, 13 Wigeon, 1 Pintail, 1 Golden Plover, 4 Snipe, 16 Fieldfare, 2 Blackcap and 11 Chiffchaff, On Johnson's Marsh there were 2 Shelduck, 8 Teal, 7 Wigeon, 4 Tufted Duck and 2 Oystercatcher, at Wykeham South Lake there were 4 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Pink-footed Goose, 1 Egyptian Goose, 1 Common Scoter, 1 Goldeneye, 1 Goosander and 2 Little Ringed Plover and a Snow Bunting was at Cromer Point.
On the move at Long Nab (south unless stated) were 1 Red-throated Diver, 8 Gannet, 1 Cormorant north, 1 Common Scoter north, 3 Curlew, 22 Black-headed Gull, 34 Common Gull, 4 Sand Martin, 71 Meadow Pipit + 4 north, 2 Alba, 1 White Wagtail, 6 Carrion Crow, 1 Chaffinch, 41 Goldfinch and 173 Linnet.

Migrants seen between Castle Hill and South Cliff were 1 Mistle Thrush, 1 Black Redstart (Marine Drive), 3 Wheatear and a Marsh Tit (South Cliff).
Another Wheatear and 25 Meadow Pipit were at Seamer Tip, at Wykeham South Lake there were 4 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Pink-footed Goose, 1 Common Scoter, 4 Goldeneye, 1 Little Ringed Plover, 4 Lesser Black-backed Gull and 5 Sand Martin and 5 Purple Sandpiper were in the Harbour.

Another quiet day with a Black Redstart and a Wheatear behind Marine Drive, a Pink-footed Goose and 2 Goldeneye were on Wykeham South Lake while on Potter Brompton Carr (no general access) were 2 Shelduck, 3 Gadwall, 22 Wigeon and a Ringed Plover.

A quiet day with the only migrants seen between Long Nab and South Cliff being 1 Snipe, 7 Fieldfare, 1 Redwing, 3 Wheatear, 2 Chiffchaff and 2 Goldcrest while at Flotmanby Carr there were 9 Teal, 14 Wigeon and 2 Lesser Black-backed Gull.

Grounded migrants seen between Long Nab and Cornelian Bay were 3 Skylark, 20 Meadow Pipit, 5 Wheatear (1 Marine Drive, 4 Castle Tops), 2 Black Redstart (1 Marine Drive, 1 near St Marys Church), 1 Blackbird, 1 Redwing, 1 male Blackcap (Castle Hill), 27 Chiffchaff and 1 Goldcrest.
Elsewhere a new Mealy Redpoll was seen in West Ayton along with 2 Brambling and 8 Siskin, 5 Wigeon and a Sand Martin were at Wykeham South Lake, 2 Shelduck, 12 Wigeon, 10 Teal and 2 Oystercatcher were on Johnson's Marsh, 35 Purple Sandpiper were roosting in the Harbour and 80 Fieldfare were at Charm Park, Wykeham with 60 also at Riverhead Farm.
On the move (south unless stated) were 1 Grey Heron, 2 Black-headed Gull north, 2 Common Gull north, 2 Sandwich Tern north (first of the year), 1 Sand Martin north, 7 Meadow Pipit + 11 north, 1 Alba, 13 Goldfinch, 2 Siskin, 2 Linnet, 1 Redpoll sp and 1 Lesser Redpoll north.
Two Common Buzzard also moved west over Harwood Dale.
