Monday 30th November

 3 Lapland Buntings were again in the stubble field at Long Nab, and 4 Snow Buntings arrived in from the east while 3 Red-breasted Mergansers and 2 Goosanders flew past. 13 Ringed Plovers were at Scalby Mills and 2 Common Scoter were in North Bay. 2 Long-tailed Ducks flew north through South Bay where a Common Tern, 35 Razorbills and a Puffin were spotted. 3 Guillemots, a Great Northern Diver and a Red-throated Diver were seen from North Marine Drive. At Wykeham South Lake there were 2 Egyptian Geese, 8 Goldeneye, 4 Gadwall and 43 Common Gulls. Just 550 Herring Gulls were in the South Bay gull roost this evening, plus a Great Northern Diver. 8 Eiders flew north and a Chiffchaff was still along South Cliff.

Sunday 29th November

 The Slavonian Grebe was again in South Bay today, while a Red-necked Grebe flew south past Long Nab and later through South Cliff. Also seen in South Bay were 4 Scaup which flew off south, a first-winter Sandwich Tern, and a pair of Red-breasted Mergansers close in off the Holbeck landslip. Along South Cliff a Woodcock flew in off the sea, a new Chiffchaff had arrived, and the Mealy Redpoll was again in Holbeck Ravine. Two large flocks of Common Scoter (100+) landed about half a mile out at the southern end of Cayton Bay. A pair of Stonechats were at Cromer Point, and a Little Owl was seen on Rocks Lane in Burniston. 2 Teal, 5 Goldeneye and a Chiffchaff were at Seamer Road Mere, and a Great Northern Diver was off the skate park in North Bay. At Long Nab there were again 2 Lapland Buntings in the stubble field, while 3 Woodcocks were in the ringing plantation. 6+ Goldcrests were seen feeding together in conifers in Woodlands Cemetery, a Chiffchaff was on the north side of Castle Hill, and 3 Shag were off Marine Drive.

 The Slavonian Grebe was still in South Bay this morning, the Great Northern Diver was again in the harbour mouth, and the Mealy Redpoll was still in Holbeck Ravine. A Sandwich Tern was fishing off Long Nab where 2+ Lapland Buntings were present. At Harwood Dale Lake there were 10 Cormorants, a Pink-footed Goose, a female Goldeneye, a Goosander, 18 Wigeon, 8 Teal and 150 Lapwings. 86 Wigeon, 56 Tufted Duck, 15 Great Crested Grebes, 12 Gadwall, 18 Goldeneye, 62 Coot, 43 Mallard and 6 Song Thrushes were at Wykeham South Lake, while 6 Goldeneye were the highlight at Seamer Road Mere. About 300 Pink-footed Geese flew over Yedmandale Road towards Wykeham South Lake. At Scalby Mills this afternoon there were 385 Wigeon; at Scalby Lodge Pond there were 54 Curlew; and at Cromer Point Pond there were 5 Common Snipe and a Stonechat.

Friday 27th November

 A Woodcock was seen in the Dean Road cemetery this morning. At Seamer Road Mere there were 4 Goldeneye, 3 Little Grebes, 2 Water Rails, 2 Mediterranean Gulls (a first and a second winter bird) and 2 Chiffchaffs, while a Woodcock flew south. At least one Great Northern Diver was in South Bay, as was a Slavonian Grebe, the latter just off the old outdoor swimming pool. 24 Purple Sandpipers were on the outer harbour, and a Mealy Redpoll was showing well in Holbeck Ravine. At Long Nab there were 43 Snow Buntings, 2+ Lapland Buntings, 17 Rock Pipits, and 42+ Meadow Pipits in the stubble field, while 6+ Woodcock were at the ringing plantation and 3 Velvet Scoters flew north. A Pink-footed Goose, a Shoveler, 6 Goosanders, 16 Great Crested Grebes, a Blackcap and a Chiffchaff were at Wykeham Lakes, where the gull roost contained 1700 Common Gulls, 300 Black-headed Gulls, 5 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 230 Great Black-backed Gulls and 400 Herring Gulls. 1000+ Herring Gulls were in the South Bay roost this evening, gathering well out offshore in the calm conditions. 3 Goldeneye were in South Bay.

 9 Lapland Buntings were in the stubble field at Long Nab today, together with 14 Snow Buntings and 3+ Twite. 7 Long-tailed Tits were on feeders in a Ravenscar garden, and at Seamer Road Mere there were 4 Goldeneye, 3 Little Grebes and 10 Redwings. 3 Great Northern Divers, including a juvenile, were close inshore just off Holbeck in South Bay, later moving south into Cornelian Bay.  A Red-throated Diver was at Cloughton Wyke along with 14 Wigeon and a flock of 50+ Tree Sparrows. In the late afternoon 32 Pink-footed Geese flew south over Gristhorpe, and a Fieldfare, 15 Pied Wagtails, 2 Stonechats and at least 5 Red-throated Divers were at Long Nab. 900 Herring Gulls, 15 Great Black-backed Gulls, 190 Black-headed Gulls and 7 Mediterranean Gulls were roosting in South Bay, and a white-winged gull, most likely a Glaucous Gull was sitting on the sea about 2 miles out. 32 Pink-footed Geese and 2 Shelduck flew south. A Dunlin was among 12 Purple Sandpipers at the harbour. A male Hen Harrier was seen near Wykeham Lakes (seen throughout December too).

 The number of Lapland Buntings sighted in the stubble field at Long Nab today had risen to 9, and 2 Marsh Tits were at Oliver's Mount.  25 Curlew flew north-east over Johnson's Marsh, where there were 9 Snipe and a Redshank. 12 Ringed Plover were with a Turnstone in Jackson's Bay. A Red-necked Grebe and a Great Northern Diver flew north past Long Nab, and a total of 52 Red-throated Divers plus 6 different species of duck also flew past, mostly south. In the Haygate area of Dalby Forest a Green Woodpecker and 3 Marsh Tits were the only birds of note.

Tuesday 24th November

 A Buzzard was seen over Low Yedmandale this morning, and a Diver (species uncertain) flew east over Wykeham South Lake. A Red-throated Diver was in an otherwise quiet North Bay, while a Great Northern Diver flew north past Long Nab. 5+ Lapland Buntings were again in the stubble field between Crook Ness and the observatory. A drake Goosander was at  Burton Riggs, and at Wykeham Lakes there were 13 Wigeon, 11 Goldeneye, 4 Pochard, 3 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and 80 Siskins.

 About 80 Lapwings flew west over Wykeham South Lake this morning, while 2 skeins of Pink-footed Geese flew north over Cayton Bay (75, 80 and c50). 2 Great Northern Divers and 29 Red-throated Divers flew south past Long Nab, and 10 Red-throated Divers, 266 Pink-footed Geese and 3 Goldeneye flew north. A Snow Bunting, 6 Lapland Buntings, 14 Rock Pipits and 30 Skylarks were seen in the stubble field behind the observatory. 43 Curlew and 2 Stonechats were in the Scalby Lodge pond field, and a Bittern was spotted and photographed at the large Seamer Tip pool before it flew off to the south. 2 pairs of Stonechats were on the Cleveland Way above Redcliff, where 90 Curlew were in the adjacent sheep field and a very late House Martin was spotted. A Mealy Redpoll was seen at Wykeham Lakes. A Swallow flew south and 441 Pink-footed Geese flew north/north-west through South Cliff. A drake Goldeneye was again in South Bay, 3 females were in Cornelian Bay, and 3 more flew south. 900+ Herring Gulls were in the roost this evening, gathering over a mile offshore.

 6 Whooper Swans flew in off the sea over Scalby Lodge ponds after passing Long Nab. Also passing Long Nab were a Long-tailed Duck and 3 Great Northern Divers, while a Lapland Bunting, a Snow Bunting and 44+ Skylarks were in the stubble field. At Wykeham South Lake there were 3 Pochard, 5 Goldeneye, a Willow Tit and a Chiffchaff, plus 5 Whooper Swans which flew in off the carrs at midday, and a pair of Redpolls feeding on the Alder, while 5 White-fronted Geese and 21 Pink-footed Geese flew over. A drake Goldeneye was seen on the sea, close in off the old South Bay pool around midday, and was still present in the late afternoon together with a Great Crested Grebe. 900 Herring Gulls, 400 Black-headed Gulls and 6 Mediterranean Gulls were roosting in South Bay this evening, while 3 Whooper Swans, 271 Pink-footed Geese and 2 Goldeneye flew south. A Raven flew south over Seamer Road Mere where there were 2 Goldeneye, a Goosander, a Water Rail and a Mediterranean Gull. At Bent Rigg near Ravenscar there were a pair of Stonechats and 2 Willow Tits, and a flock of 30+ Snow Buntings flew north. A Red Kite was seen over Beedale, a Goshawk flew low over Irton Moor Lane heading west, and a Great White Egret flew east over the A64 near Seamer.

 A juvenile Glaucous Gull flew north past Long Nab this morning, as did 4 Great Northern Divers, 8 Bar-tailed Godwits and a Snow Bunting, while 7 Lapland Buntings were spotted in the stubble field. One Great Northern Diver and an adult Mediterranean Gull flew south. A Great Northern Diver was also seen passing Marine Drive,  4 Red-throated Divers, plus 10 Common Scoter in 2 groups. 3 Guillemots and 2 Shags were in the harbour. 15 Whooper Swans, a Dunlin, 430 Herring Gulls and 60 Black-headed Gulls were on Wykeham East Lake, and 51 Pink-footed Geese flew over south-west. Also at the lakes were 47 Gadwall, 41 Teal, 3 Shoveler, 3 Pochard and 8 Goldeneye. A Great Grey Shrike was again seen at Derwent Head in Langdale this afternoon, and a flock of 200 Siskins was seen in Dalby Forest. 3 Whooper Swans (a juvenile and 2 adults) flew south over North Bay, while a juvenile Iceland Gull was spotted flying from the south into the South Bay gull roost, which contained upwards of 1100 Herring Gulls. A Great Crested Grebe, 4 Teal and 4 Goldeneye were also in South Bay.

 80 Common Gulls, 13 Wigeon, 2 Teal and 4 Cormorants were at Harwood Dale Lake this morning. 10 Snow Buntings and 2 Woodcock were in the stubble field at Long Nab, where a very productive seawatch included a redhead Smew and a Slavonian Grebe heading north and 7 Fieldfare arriving in off the sea, while also passing were 9 Whooper Swans, 27 Goldeneye, 2 Red-breasted Mergansers and 4 Great Northern Divers. In the afternoon 14 Goldeneye and 2 Pochard were at Wykeham South Lake, 8 Common Scoter flew south past Long Nab, and 14 Curlew were in the field by the observatory. 3 Guillemots were in the harbour, a Red-throated Diver was off Marine Drive, and a Kingfisher was feeding from the island at Peasholm Lake. Seamer and Star Carrs were busy this afternoon with 2 Great White Egrets, a Long-eared Owl, a Woodcock, 900 Starlings, 359 Lapwings, 5 Little Egrets, a Stonechat, 3 Lesser Redpoll, 10 Snipe and impressive numbers in the Rook/Jackdaw roost. Sightings in the Ellerburn Valley this afternoon included 6 Little Grebes, 2 Grey Wagtails, 65 Siskins, 60 Fieldfare, 22 Redwing, a Nuthatch and 4 Marsh Tits. 410 Herring Gulls and a Lesser Black-backed Gull were in the South Bay roost this evening, where a Great Crested Grebe and 2 Goldeneye were on the sea and a female Goosander flew south.

 7 Little Auks flew north past Marine Drive this morning, while 3 Pomarine Skuas, a Great Skua and a Great Northern Diver flew south. A Common Scoter was in South Bay and 42 Purple Sandpipers were on the outer blocks at the harbour. 2 Pomarine Skuas and 402 Kittiwakes flew south past Long Nab and a Sooty Shearwater and a Puffin flew north. 2 Golden Plover were in the third field north of Long Nab. 8 Goldeneye, 5 Pochard, a Buzzard, a Stonechat and 12 Siskins were seen at Wykeham South Lake. At Seamer Road Mere this afternoon there were 2 Little Grebes, 2 Goldeneye, 2 Water Rails, 91 Moorhens and 2 Chiffchaffs. 2 Snipe and a Stonechat were at Johnson's Marsh. c2000 Pink-footed Geese flew NW just east of Pickering.

 A Great Northern Diver flew south past Long Nab this morning, as did a Little Egret and 110 Pink-footed Geese, while another 12 Pink-footed Geese flew north-west and a Lapland Bunting was present in the stubble field. 2 Red Kites were seen over Hutton Buscel, and one was over Causeway Plantation at Wykeham Lakes.

Tuesday 17th November

 At Wykeham South Lake this morning there were 4 Pochard, 7 Goldeneye, 2 Marsh Tits and a Buzzard. In the afternoon in the causeway area there were 6 Marsh Tits, a Willow Tit, 33 Siskin, 17 Lesser Redpoll, 34 Fieldfare, 260 Pink-footed Geese flew over in 2 skeins, and 2 Stonechats were spotted very distantly in the sheep field at the south end of the lake. Later in the afternoon a Red Kite flew over Causeway Plantation and 13 Lesser Black-backed Gulls were seen in the gull roost. 4 Eiders flew south past Long Nab in the morning, a Buzzard flew in off the sea in North Bay in the early afternoon, and a couple of Crows were seen trying to see off a Red Kite near Hutton Buscel.

Monday 16th November

 A Sparrowhawk was seen from Yedmandale Road early this morning. 4 Little Egrets were at Folkton sewage works and another was by Flixton Bridge, where a Kingfisher was seen along the Hertford. A Snipe was at Taylor Way, and at Seamer Road Mere there were a pair of Goldeneye, a female Pochard, 3 Chiffchaffs, 57 Mute Swans, 37 Moorhens, a first winter Mediterranean Gull and 2 Sparrowhawks. 2 Willow Tits were at the back of Deans Garden Centre. 47 Teal, 23 Gadwall, a Shoveler and 8 Wigeon were at Scampston Park Lake, while at Wykeham South Lake there were 4 Goldeneye, 400 Woodpigeons, a Whooper Swan, and a gull roost with a minimum of 800 Black-headed, 600 Common, 6 Lesser Black-backed, 260 Great Black-backed and 400 Herring Gulls. In the sheep field south of Wykeham Lakes there were 3 Stonechats plus a possible "Eastern" Stonechat. Skeins of Pink-footed Geese were heard over the town centre, Dean Road and Yedmandale Road.

 A first winter Mediterranean Gull, a male Goldeneye, 3 Little Grebes, a female Pochard, 3 Water Rails and a Chiffchaff were all spotted at Seamer Road Mere this morning. 2 Common Scoter were present and a Swallow flew south through Cayton Bay in the early afternoon. A Goosander was at Wykeham South Lake and a Willow Tit was in the Causeway plantation. 50 Pink-footed Geese flew over Stepney, a Kingfisher was at the Open Air Theatre, and a Great Egret was seen visiting a garden pond in East Ayton. 134 Wigeon were at Scalby Mills; a Common Scoter, 87 Oystercatchers, 16 Ringed Plover, 2 Purple Sandpipers, 15 Turnstones, 25 Redshank and 23 Curlew were in Jackson's Bay; and in Peasholm Park there were 85 Canada Geese, 63 Mallard and 13 Tufted Duck.

 10 Fieldfares were seen over Yedmandale Road this morning, and 2+ Redpoll were with a flock of 80+ Siskins near Wrench Green. A Great Northern Diver flew south, close in, past Long Nab, while another was in the north-east corner of Wykeham South Lake. A Red-throated Diver was in the entrance to the harbour, and a Guillemot and 4 Cormorants were seen off Lighthouse Pier. A Blackcap was the only bird of note seen along South Cliff this morning. 4 Little Egrets and a Great White Egret were seen on Cayton Carrs.

 A Siberian Chiffchaff was located at Wykeham South Lake this morning, where later in the day there were 2 Chiffchaffs, 10 Little Grebes, 2 Shoveler, 29 Gadwall, 120+ Lapwings, 3 Kingfishers and 35 Siskins. A Red-throated Diver was in the harbour in the morning, and later 2 were just outside, along with a Common Seal and 9 Purple Sandpipers. In the late afternoon 21 Purple Sandpipers and 42 Turnstones were roosting on the harbour wall and a Woodcock was seen inside Marine Drive wall. At Seamer Road Mere a Great White Egret and a Grey Heron were in the trees, while also present were 3 Little Grebes, a Coot, 2 Water Rails, 32 Tufted Duck, a female Goldeneye, 4 Pochard, 2 Chiffchaffs, 10+ Goldcrests, a Treecreeper, a Nuthatch, 3 Long-tailed Tits and a Grey Wagtail. 45 Pink-footed Geese and a Snow Bunting flew south at Long Nab, a Chiffchaff was at Hood Lane in Cloughton, another Chiffchaff was by the cafe at the top of Oliver's Mount, and 10 Crossbills and 2 Bramblings were seen around Raven Hall in Ravenscar.

 7 Fieldfares were seen at Low Yedmandale early this morning. At Wykeham Lakes there were 65 Lapwings, a Little Egret, a Great Spotted Woodpecker, 4 Pink-footed Geese, 2 Shoveler, 119 Teal, 25 Gadwall, 6 Pochard, 9 Goldeneye, 3 Water Rails, 67 Coot, 250 Jackdaws (in a roost), a Chiffchaff, a Willow Tit and 5 Marsh Tits. About 1100 Lapwings and 90 Golden Plover flew low over Low Marishes, and 4 Whooper Swans and 2 Twite flew south past Long Nab. A Goldeneye and a Goosander were at Seamer Tip large pool.

 A Yellow-browed Warbler was spotted in a hedge near Cliff House Farm in Gristhorpe, and 4 Little Egrets were at Folkton Bridge. 4+ Lapland Buntings were seen in the stubble field at Long Nab, a Black-throated Diver flew south close in past Crook Ness, two Swallows flew south by the observatory, and 3 Bramblings flew south past Ravenscar. A single Whooper Swan was at Wykeham South Lake, 2 Green Woodpeckers were in woodland to the west of there, and a Red Kite was seen just north of Hutton Buscel.

 Early this morning a Great White Egret flew south-west over Irton, and about 40 Bramblings were spotted at Rocks Lane in Burniston. 120 Pink-footed Geese flew south over Seamer Road in 2 groups. Highlights passing Long Nab include an Egyptian Goose, a first winter Caspian Gull and 97 Pink-footed Geese heading south, plus 2 Great Northern Divers and a Merlin heading north. A pair of Common Scoters remain in North Bay together with a Red-throated Diver and a Guillemot. A male Black Redstart was seen on the roof of Cliff House Farm, Gristhorpe Bay. 79 Teal, 11 Grey Herons, 3 Curlew and a Canada Gooses were at Johnson's Marsh; a Green Woodpecker was in Harwood Dale Forest; 214 Lapwing were at  Harwood Dale Lake; and 4 Pochard and a Goosander were at Seamer Tip pool. A Great Grey Shrike was again present in the Derwent Head area of Langdale Forest, together with 3 Goshawks and 16 Lesser Redpoll, while 4 Woodcock were seen on the roadsides in the forest. A Ring Ouzel was sound recorded over Crossgates last night.

 350+ Fieldfares were reported over Ayton this morning, heading towards Wykeham Lakes, and a Woodcock was reported near Ayton Castle.  A Kittiwake and 2 Guillemots were off Marine Drive, a pair of Peregrines were above lamp post 51, 2 Common Scoter and 3 Red-throated Divers were in North Bay, and a Short-eared Owl flew over Holbeck car park. 14 species of wildfowl flew south through South Cliff, the highlights being: 263 Pink-footed Geese, 2 Shoveler, 5 Gadwall, 16 Mallard, a Pintail, 29 Goldeneye and a Red-breasted Merganser. A Jack Snipe, 2 Short-eared Owls and a Snow Bunting flew in off the sea, together with small numbers of thrushes and Starlings. A Twite flew south along the golf course, and a Little Grebe was in Cornelian Bay. At Crook Ness a Lapland Bunting was seen in the field west of the car park, where a Twite was spotted in a Linnet flock. 3 Twite flew south along the cliffs and a Woodcock was near Cliff Top House, while 2 Dark-bellied Brent Geese flew south past Long Nab. 25 Wigeon in 2 rafts were in Cayton Bay where 5 Red-throated Divers and a Common Scoter were feeding. 3 Red-breasted Mergansers were in North Bay, and a Whooper Swan, 70 Wigeon and 6 Pochard were at Wykeham S0outh Lake.

 47 Blackbirds, 57 Fieldfare and 36 Redwings flew in off the sea at South Cliff this morning, and a Twite flew along the golf course. A Woodcock was flushed from a Newby garden. A Tristis Chiffchaff was seen and heard calling on the North side of Castle Hill where there were also 10 Fieldfare, a Woodcock, 35 Blackbirds, a Blackcap, 5 Chiffchaffs, 5 Goldcrests, 6 Bramblings, and a wing-barred warbler which could be a Yellow-browed or Pallas's. Another Woodcock was seen arriving and dropping in between Westwood Court and Tesco. 22 Golden Plover and a Kestrel were seen over Scalby Lodge pond.

Saturday 7th November

 A Grey Phalarope flew south through Cornelian Bay this morning, 18 Purple Sandpipers were at the harbour, and a Great Grey Shrike was at Derwent Head Rigg in Langdale Forest. Again a number of flocks of Pink-footed Geese were seen through the day: 230 over town and to Knipe Point before turning inland, a flock over Gristhorpe, 562 past South Cliff, 250+ over Crossgates, about 100 heading towards Wykeham Lakes, and a large flock over Manor Road Park late afternoon. Also passing South Cliff were an Egyptian Goose and a Dark-bellied Brent Goose heading north. 13 Lapwings, 4 Redwings, a Blackbird, 8 Fieldfare, 16 Starlings and a Brambling arrived in off the sea. 5 Curlew and a Great Spotted Woodpecker were at Johnson's Marsh, 80+ Lapwings were at Harwood Dale Lake, and a drake Pintail was at Seamer Tip Pool. In Dalby Forest 9 Willow Tits were at Nabgate and Sand Dale, 3 Marsh Tits were at Pexton Lake, and 3 Buzzards and 30 Yellowhammers were at Wilton Heights. A Buzzard was also seen over Crossgates, and a flock of 40+ Fieldfare were at the far north end of North Lane, in with cattle. Through the thick fog at Wykeham Lakes 20+ Goldeneye, 50+ Canada Geese, 3 Egyptian Geese, 6 Cormorants, 24 Lapwing, a female Stonechat and the usual wildfowl were seen at South Lake, while at East Lake there were 165 Lapwing, 190+ Greylag Geese, an Egyptian Goose, 38 Mallard, 2 Cormorants, a mixture of  gulls (Black-headed, Common, Herring and Great Black-backed), a Grey Heron, and 2 Great Crested Grebes. Later in the day about 45 Whooper Swans, 35+ Goldeneye, 2 Goosanders, 2 Great Egrets and a Little Egret were seen there. Between South and Cornelian Bays there were 10 Red-throated Diver, 2 Great Crested Grebes, a juvenile Mute Swan, 13 Wigeon, 2 Goldeneye, 3 Common Scoter, 3 Eiders, 9 Guillemots, 2 Razorbills and a Kittiwake. 2 Bramblings, a Lesser Redpoll, a Goldcrest, 2 Marsh Tits, a Coal Tit, a Great Spotted Woodpecker and a Fieldfare flew in off the sea at Castle Hill. A Marsh Harrier was spotted over Great Moor Road heading towards Yedmandale.

Friday 6th November

 A probable Water Pipit flew south along South Cliff this morning, and 3 Snow Buntings and 2 Twite were seen along the 5th fairway. A Common Scoter and 2 Great Crested Grebes were in South Bay, and 14 Purple Sandpipers were on Black Rocks. At Wykeham South Lake there were 100+ Whooper Swans, 400+ Pink-footed Geesearound midday, and in the afternoon there were also 4 juvenile male Pochards and 9 Goldeneye, while another 66 Whooper Swans flew in off the carrs. Several flocks of Pink-footed Geese were seen flying south again today: 200 over Gristhorpe, 100+ over Burniston, one over Seamer Road, and 80+ over Cayton. 66 Teal were on Johnson's Marsh, while at Scalby Mills there were 5 Curlew, 5 Redshank, 14 Turnstones, 9 Oystercatchers, 6 Ringed Plovers and an adult Mediterranean Gull.

Thursday 5th November

 Lots of Pink-footed Geese flying over again today: 80 south over Cayton Bay and 1302 south through South Cliff in the morning, 145 north-west over Thornton Dale around midday, and a large flock heard over Peasholm in the late afternoon. 3 separate groups (one of about 200 birds and the other 2 of 60+ birds) were present round the Open Air Theatre. A pair of Stonechats, 5 Curlew, 62 Teal, 3 Herons and 3 Roe Deer were at Johnson's Marsh. A Stonechat, 4 Willow Tits, 4 Marsh Tits and 2 Crossbills were seen/heard at Maw Rigg. Also passing through South Cliff were a Goldeneye and a Brambling heading south, a drake Eider north, and 11 Fieldfare and a Woodcock arriving in off the sea. The latter was sadly killed by a Peregrine only feet from making landfall. A Merlin was on the golf course, a Brambling was spotted at Holbeck, and 5 Blackcaps were along the coast there. In South Bay there was a Great Crested Grebe and a Common Scoter. 16 Goldeneye, 2 Great White Egrets, about 40 Tufted Ducks, 10 Little Grebes, 20+ Snipe and 10 Great Crested Grebes were on Wykeham South Lake, plus 3 Stonechat (a pair of them just by the viewing platform). At East Lake there were large numbers of Herring Gulls and Greylags, 23 Mallard, 5 Egyptian Geese, 70 Lapwing, 3 Great Crested Grebes, a Little Egret, 7 Cormorants and 2 Little Grebes.

Wednesday 4th November

 A mixed flock of tits, Tree Sparrows and Bullfinches was at Yedmandale Road early this morning, and 93 93 Pink-footed Geese flew north over Garth End Road. 90 Pink-footed Geese were also seen heading south over Knipe Point, and 260+ (in 3 flocks) had been seen heading south over Long Nab by 10:00am. In the afternoon another 120 Pink-footed Geese were seen high over Stepney, heading south. 3 Twite were in the stubble at Long Nab and a Snow Bunting flew over north. 6 Whooper Swans flew in off the sea at Ravenscar in the early afternoon and continued south. A Great Grey Shrike was spotted at Maw Rigg in Langdale Forest, and a Hen Harrier was seen near Blakey Topping.

 This morning 30 Whooper Swans flew west over Fylingdales Moor, groups of 5 and 6 were seen flying south over Scarborough Castle, and 15 flew south through South Cliff. Also heading south at South Cliff were 3 Lapland Buntings and 3 Snow Buntings, while a Willow Warbler and 3 Blackcaps were still in Cornelian Ravine and a Yellow-browed Warbler remained in Holbeck Ravine. At Wykeham Lakes in the morning there were 12 more Whooper Swans, plus a Little Egret, 5 Goldeneye, 16 Lesser Redpoll, 28 Siskin, about 200 Greylags, 4 Egyptian Geese, about 120 Canada Geese, while skeins of 120 and 70 Pink-footed Geese flew over southwards. In the afternoon 180 Lapwings, 3 Shovelers, a Gadwall, 6 Great Crested Grebes, another 42 Lesser Redpoll, 6 Marsh Tits, 2 Treecreepers and a Great White Egret were present, while another 90 Pink-footed Geese flew over. At Long Nab 4 Lapland Buntings were again in the stubble field, and a Snipe and a Stonechat were at the scrape. 3 Twite, 62 Linnets, 16 Reed Buntings and a single Corn Bunting were with about 130 Tree Sparrows at the end of Station Lane. A further 32 Tree Sparrows and a Sparrowhawk were at Crook Ness and about 60 Pink-footed Geese flew over south. 10 Ringed Plover were at Scalby Mills and a Wheatear was on Marine Drive.

 4 Lapland Buntings were seen this morning in the stubble field behind Long Nab, where the other highlights were a Black-throated Diver flying north, plus 2 Eiders and a female Merlin flying south. A Short-eared Owl was seen along a hedge north of Long Nab. 35 Linnets, 7 Skylarks, 8 Fieldfare, 2 Bullfinch, 4 Yellowhammers, 4 Greenfinch and several Blackbirds were seen at Spikers Hill; 4 Jays were at High Yedmandale; and nearby at Coverdale Moor there were 12 Lapwing and large numbers of finches. 4 Hawfinch were spotted at Limekiln Lane, opposite the churchyard in Cayton. At Wykeham Lakes there were 4 Goldeneye, 2 Wigeon, a female Merlin, a Water Rail, 3 Shoveler, 60+ Teal, 15 Gadwall, 10 Little Grebe, 104 Lapwings and 16 Fieldfare, as well as 8 Crossbills flying south-west. A Goosander was at Scalby Mills, and 2 groups of 5 and 11 Whooper Swans were seen heading south just off Ravenscar.

Sunday 1st November

 A Yellow-browed Warbler remains in Holbeck ravine, loosely associating with a tit flock. At Wykeham Lakes 2 Lapwing, 212 Greylag Geese and 5 Egyptian Geese were on East Lake, while on a rather choppy South Lake there were 2 Great Crested Grebes, 68 Canada Geese, 2 Greylag Geese, 12 Cormorants, a Goldeneye, 6 Tufted Duck, 35 Coot and a Grey Heron. 2 Knot, 3 Mediterranean Gulls and a Lesser Black-backed Gull were at Black Rocks, while 2 Red-throated Divers were in North Bay close in to the beach. By mid-afternoon a third Red-throated Diver was in North Bay, 140 Wigeon were at Scalby Mills, a Kingfisher flew north over the sea defence rocks by the skate park, 3 Guillemots were off Marine Drive, and 10 Purple Sandpipers were roosting at the harbour. A Red Kite was seen hunting low over Lowdales.
