Migration watch; 06.30 – 12.25hrs.
On the move (south unless stated) were 2 Red-throated Diver, 1 Golden Plover, 1 Grey Plover, 3 Ringed Plover, 1 Snipe, 6 Dunlin, 7 Skylark, 8 Swallow, 2 House Martin, 8 Grey Wagtail, 1 Alba, 226 Meadow Pipit, 3 Chaffinch, 17 Linnet, 12 Redpoll sp, 40 Siskin, 1 Reed Bunting and 2 Lapland Bunting, one of which came in off.
Present there was the drake Mandarin, 7 Chiffchaff, 5 Yellow-browed Warbler (4 new) 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 8 Goldcrest, 8 Song Thrush and 1 Lapland Bunting.
A further 13 Yellow-browed Warbler were discovered throughout the day (bring the day total to 18, a new record) 2 were at Ravenscar, 2 were by Scalby Lodge, 3 were on Castle Hill, 2 were on the Crescent, 1 was in the Italian Gardens, 2 were by the Clock Tower on South Cliff and 1 was in Cayton Bay.
Other migrants noted elsewhere included Willow Warblers at Scalby Lodge and on the Crescent, a Whinchat and a Wheatear at Scalby Lodge Pond and 3 Chiffchaff, 3 Blackcap and a Spotted Flycatcher were on Castle Hill.
In Jackson’s Bay there were 79 Oystercatcher, 4 Bar-tailed Godwit, 12 Redshank and a Kingfisher.

On the move (south unless stated) were 44 Pink=footed Geese, 63 Wigeon north, 1 Shoveler north, 4 Pintail north, 11 Teal north, 4 Common Scoter + 2 north, 18 Red-throated Diver + 5 north, 10 Fulmar north, 1 Manx Shearwater north, 1 Golden Plover, 140 Kittiwake north, 9 Sandwich tern north, 1 Arctic Skua + 4 north, 42 Auk sp north, 4 Meadow Pipit and 2 Siskin.
In the Long Nab area was a drake Mandarin, 19 Skylark, 10 Chiffchaff, 4 Yellow-browed Warbler, 1 Blackcap, 6 Goldcrest, 1 Song Thrush and 4 Lapland Bunting.
Another Yellow-browed Warbler was found on King Street and 2 Shoveler, 2 Snipe and 4 Redshank were on Johnson’s Marsh.

On Castle Hill there were 3 Chiffchaff, a Song Thrush and a Garden Warbler, 2 Snipe, 42 Wigeon, a Shoveler, 18 Grey heron and a Curlew were on Johnson’s Marsh.

At Ravenscar there were 3 Wheatear, 15 Song Thrush, 10 Chiffchaff, 60 Meadow Pipit and 5 Siskin, 19 Wigeon were at Scalby Mills with another 6 on nearby Johnson’s Marsh along with 17 Grey Heron.

Another decent day over the waves, on the move (north unless stated) were 12 Pale-bellied Brent Geese, 685 Wigeon + 9 south, 25 Pintail, 341 Teal + 19 south, 1 Tufted Duck, 2 Velvet Scoter, 71 Common Scoter + 4 south, 42 Red-throated Diver south, 108 Sooty Shearwater, 96 Manx Shearwater + 1 south, 1 Shag + 1 south, 6 Cormorant, 8 Oystercatcher + 4 south, 1 Bar-tailed Godwit, 1 Curlew, 1 Turnstone south, 2 Curlew Sandpiper, 29 Dunlin + 1 south, 10 Sandwich Tern + 48 south, 8 ‘Commic’ Tern, 20 Arctic Tern, 4 Great Skua south, 1 Pomarine Skua south, 4 Skua sp, 7 Arctic Skua + 5 south, 2 Long-tailed Skua at 16.16hrs and 17.19hrs + 1 south at 15.30hrs, 1 Kestrel in off and south and 3 Swallow.
Three Arctic Tern were present offshore.
On Johnson’s Marsh there were 17 Grey Heron and 2 Shoveler while a Wheatear and 100 Goldfinch were at Wykeham South Lake.

On the move (north unless stated) were 547 Wigeon + 98 south, 4 Mallard, 8 Shoveler, 17 Pintail + 14 south, 606 Teal + 58 south, 453 Common Scoter + 38 south, 2 Red-throated Diver + 23 south, 1 Sooty Shearwater south, 7 Manx Shearwater, 1 Balearic Shearwater at 16.15hrs, 3 Grey Heron, 337 Gannet + 21 south, 1 Shag south, 16 Cormorant + 4 south, 56 Oystercatcher, 1 Golden Plover, 3 Grey Plover, 2 Ringed Plover south, 1 Curlew, 17 Redshank, 1 Turnstone south, 19 Dunlin, 3 Black-headed Gull + 7 south, 6 Common Gull south, 14 Sandwich Tern south, 1 Common Tern, 2 Great Skua south, 12 Arctic Skua south, 1 juvenile Long-tailed Skua south at 10.05hrs, 6 Auk sp + 160 south, 1 Puffin south, 1 Kestrel south, 1 Sand Martin and 10 Meadow Pipit south.
Present at Long Nab were 1 Arctic Tern, 2 Wheatear and a Siskin.
Two Curlew Sandpiper dropped in to Wykeham South Lake where there were also 42 Coot and 4 Great Crested Grebe, a Bar-tailed Godwit was in South Bay, 2 Chiffchaff and 2 Goldcrest were along Marine Drive and a Hobby was seen over Flixton.

Migration watch; 07.00 – 11.40hrs.
On the move (south unless stated) were 3 Ringed Plover, 1 Grey Plover, 2 Snipe, 12 Dunlin, 1 Redshank, 1 Redwing in off and 24 Meadow Pipit.
In the Long Nab area 2 Pied Flycatcher were discovered, at Clifftop House and in Crook Ness, also there were 10 Chiffchaff, 2 Blackcap, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 1 Whitethroat and 6 Goldcrest.
Elsewhere a Wheatear was in the Harbour, 3 Little Egret were on Seamer Mead, 4 Grey Plover flew south over Hovringham Drive and a Nuthatch and a Willow Warbler were along Scalby Lodge drive way.

On the move (north unless stated) were 34 Wigeon, 72 Teal + 14 south, 1 Tufted Duck, 34 Common Scoter + 1 south, 6 Red-throated Diver + 8 south, 1 Leach’s Petrel at 18.19hrs, 41 Fulmar, 3 Sooty Shearwater, 34 Manx Shearwater, 1 Shag, 6 Cormorant south, 1 Golden Plover south, 28 Ringed Plover south, 1 Turnstone south, 2 Common Gull south, 175 Kittiwake, 1 Little Gull, 1 1cy Mediterranean Gull, 5 Sandwich Tern south, 2 Common Tern, 1 Arctic Tern, 2 Great Skua south, 1 Pomarine Skua south, 1 Arctic Skua + 2 south, 1 Puffin south, 2 Swallow south, 2 Flava in off, 2 Grey Wagtail south, 9 Meadow Pipit south and 1 Crossbill south.
In the Long Nab area were 1 Wheatear, 1 Whitethroat, 4 Goldcrest, 1 continental Song Thrush and 1 Stonechat.
Nine Black-tailed Godwit (a four and a five) paused briefly on Johnson’s Marsh where there were also 3 Shoveler and a Little Egret.
Migrants on Castle Hill included a Wheatear and a Willow Warbler.
At Wykeham South Lake there were 6 Grey Heron, 2 adult and 5 juvenile Egyptian Geese and a female Pintail.

On the move (south unless stated) were 3 Shoveler, 1 Teal, 2 Common Scoter, 1 Red-throated Diver north, 1 Golden Plover, 1 Bar-tailed Godwit, 1 Turnstone north, 4 Dunlin north, 3 Common Gull, 2 Sandwich Tern + 1 north, 3 Common Tern north, 2 Great Skua, 1 Arctic Skua, 1 female Merlin, 1 Sand Martin, 80 Swallow, 15 House Martin, 1 Flava, 4 Grey Wagtail, 2 Alba, 296 Meadow Pipit, 1 Tree Pipit, 12 Linnet, 2 Goldfinch and 6 Siskin.
Present at Long Nab were 3 Whitethroat, 1 Willow Warbler, 3 Goldcrest.
Migrants on Castle Hill included the 1st Pied Flycatcher of 2016 on the south side, 3 Whinchat and 1 Willow Warbler.
At Wykeham South Lake there were 6 Lesser Black-backed Gull and 250 Herring Gull.

Elsewhere 2 Shoveler, 4 Wigeon, 2 Teal and 3 White Wagtail were on Johnson’s Marsh, 4 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 2 Mute Swan, a Kingfisher, a Dipper and a Sand Martin were in the Scalby Mills area, 3 Dunlin and 2 Bar-tailed Godwit were in Jackson’s Bay, 2 Willow Warbler and 3 Goldcrest were in Scalby Beck and a Willow Warbler was in North Bay.

A Hen Harrier flew west over Wrench Green at 16.20hrs, 2 Shoveler were on Johnson’s Marsh and a Bar-tailed Godwit was in Jackson’s Bay.

On the move (south unless stated) were 1 Pale-bellied Brent Goose, 57 Teal + 45 north, 45 Common Scoter + 23 north, 9 Red-throated Diver + 8 north, 1 Great Northern Diver, 67 Fulmar +11 north, 1 Manx Shearwater, 2436 Gannet + 27 north, 1 Shag, 1 Cormorant north, 1 Oystercatcher, 1 Knot, 20 Dunlin, 133 Kittiwake + 3 north, 8 Black-headed Gull + 15 north, 2 Little Gull, 3 Common Gull, 21 Great Black-backed Gull + 7 north, 37 Sandwich Tern, 12 Common Tern, 3 Arctic Tern, 3 Arctic Skua + 1 north, 17 Auk sp + 1 north, 2 Puffin, 6 Swallow north, 140 meadow Pipit and 1 Rock Pipit.
A Little Egret was present in Burniston Bay.
Elsewhere and Osprey was seen over the Mere before leaving to the east at 11.40hrs, a Kingfisher was in Peasholm Glen, a Great Crested Grebe was on the sea off Marine Drive, a Shoveler, 2 Wigeon and 4 Teal were on Johnson’s Marsh and 2 Little Grebe, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 5 Gadwall, 6 Wigeon and 164 Greylag Geese were at Wykeham South Lake.

On the move (south unless stated) were 1 Shelduck, 8 Teal north, 2 Red-breasted Merganser north, 1 Red-throated Diver, 34 Fulmar + 11 north, 550 Gannet, 2 Cormorant north, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Marsh Harrier, 12 Oystercatcher, 1 Golden Plover, 5 Bar-tailed Godwit, 1 Turnstone, 51 Kittiwake north, 54 Black-headed Gull + 1 north, 4 Common Gull + 1 north, 54 Great Black-backed Gull + 3 north, 7 Lesser Black-backed Gull + 1 north, 2 Sandwich Tern, 1 Arctic Tern north, 2 Arctic Skua north, 7 Auk sp north, 1 Stock Dove, 1 Swift, 1 Peregrine, 3 Skylark, 5 Sand Martin, 33 Swallow, 22 Tree Sparrow, 1 Flava north, 1 Grey Wagtail, 6 Alba, 1207 Meadow Pipit, 1 Tree Pipit, 2 Chaffinch, 87 Linnet, 31 Goldfinch and 1 Reed Bunting.
Another 1cy Caspian Gull was found, this time at Wykeham South Lake where there was also a ringed Plover. Yesterday’s Caspian Gull at Scalby Mills was possibly seen again but quickly flew off south, also there was a 1cy Yellow-legged Gull and 6 Lesser Black-backed Gull.
In Jackson’s Bay there were 7 Bar-tailed Godwit, 6 Dunlin and 19 Ringed Plover, 15 Grey Heron, 2 Wigeon and a Shoveler were on Johnson’s Marsh, a Bar-tailed Godwit was in North Bay and 29 Teal, a Snipe and a Yellow Wagtail were on Potter Brompton Carr (no general access).

On the move (south unless stated) were 36 Teal, 1 Shoveler, 12 Common Scoter + 32 north, 6 Red-throated Diver, 37 Fulmar +15 north, 3 Cormorant + 13 north, 9 Bar-tailed Godwit, 1 Whimbrel, 1 Turnstone, 2 Sanderling, 14 Black-headed Gull + 2 north, 2 Common Gull, 2 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 1 juvenile Little Gull, 29 Sandwich Tern + 1 north, 1 juvenile Roseate Tern (past Long Nab at 08.37 and past Marine Drive at 08.55), 16 Common Tern, 1 Arctic Skua north, 4 Swift, 2 Sand Martin, 27 Swallow, 2 House Martin, 4 Flava, 1 Grey Wagtail, 1 Alba, 753 Meadow Pipit, 1 Rock Pipit, 56 Linnet + 4 north and 5 Goldfinch.
In the Long Nab area there were 7 Chiffchaff, 1 Willow Warbler, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 3 Whitethroat, 3 Goldcrest and 1 Tawny Owl.
At Wykeham South Lake there were 5 Wigeon, 25 Coot, 2 Pochard, a Peregrine, 12 Lapwing and 8 Tufted Duck. A White Wagtail was in North Bay, 24 Mistle Thrush, a Yellow Wagtail, a Kingfisher were on Star Carr where a Crossbill flew south, a Red Kite flew over Crossgates at 10.55hrs, the Shoveler was on Johnson’s Marsh where 2 juvenile Curlew Sandpiper paused briefly before leaving south during the evening, a 1cy Caspian Gull was at Scalby Mills where there were 2 juvenile Lesser Black-backed Gull and a Sanderling, 26 Ringed Plover, 12 Dunlin, a Bar-tailed Godwit, 12 Teal, 23 Sandwich tern and 3 Common Tern were in Jackson’s Bay.

On the move (south unless stated) were 9 Common Scoter + 3 north, 2 Red-throated Diver, 1 Black-throated Diver (only the 2nd record of the year!), 6 Fulmar + 7 north, 8 Cormorant, 7 Ringed Plover, 1 Dotterel, 1 Curlew, 8 Black-headed Gull, 2 Common Gull, 2 Lesser Black-backed Gull + 1 north, 18 Sandwich Tern + 3 north, 3 Common Tern north, 1 Swift, 13 Swallow, 56 House Martin, 562 Meadow Pipit, 9 Linnet and 37 Goldfinch..
Migrants in the Long Nab area were 5 Willow Warbler, 2 Whitethroat, 1 Goldcrest and 3 Whinchat.
In the Scalby Lodge Pond area there were 3 Willow Warbler a Spotted Flycatcher and 9 Curlew, a Shoveler was on Johnson’s Marsh and a Kingfisher was off Marine Drive and a Green Woodpecker and 320 Goldfinch were at Wykeham South Lake.

On the move (south unless stated) were 1 Wigeon + 8 north, 4 Mallard north, 39 Teal + 99 north, 3 Common Scoter + 5 north, 2 Red-throated Diver + 4 north, 105 Fulmar + 120 north, 1 Sooty Shearwater + 1 north, 1 Manx Shearwater, 1 Shag, 5 Cormorant + 6 north, 2 Ringed Plover, 9 Bar-tailed Godwit + 1 north, 1 Whimbrel, 1 Curlew, 1 Knot + 1 north, 1 juvenile Curlew Sandpiper north, 2 Dunlin + 19 north, 1 Ruff north, 208 Kittiwake north, 3 Black-headed Gull + 40 north, 1 Common Gull + 2 north, 8 Great Black-backed Gull + 27 north, 1 juvenile Yellow-legged Gull, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull + 6 north, 26 Sandwich tern + 5 north, 17 Common Tern + 1 north, 5 Arctic Tern, 4 Arctic Skua + 4 north, 1 Auk sp + 21 north, 1 Puffin, 18 Swift, 1 Kestrel, 4 Skylark, 1 Sand Martin, 13 Swallow, 80 House Martin, 3 Flava, 2 Alba, 62 Meadow Pipit, 1 Rock Pipit, 30 Linnet + 6 north and 2 Goldfinch.
At least 60 Meadow Pipit were grounded at Long Nab along with 4 Yellow Wagtail and 11 Wheatear. Two Common Sandpiper were feeding on the rocks there. In Jackson’s Bay there was a juvenile Yellow-legged Gull, 28 Ringed Plover, 19 Dunlin, 2 Bar-tailed Godwit and 27 Sandwich Tern, 3 Whinchat, 2 Wheatear, a Swift and 5 Chiffchaff were at Ravenscar. A Shoveler was on the small duck pond along Barmoor Road, Scalby, a Turtle Dove was seen in Harwood Dale, a Little Egret and 3 Yellow Wagtail were on Star Carr, a Merlin was seen on Willerby Carr, 12 Snipe were along Taylor Way and 8 Gadwall were at Seamer Tip.

Migration watch; 18.20 – 19.20hrs.
On the move (south unless stated) were 8 Fulmar + 1 north, 1 Cormorant, 1 Golden Plover, 2 Dunlin, 10 Sandwich Tern + 3 north, 19 Common Tern + 9 north and 2 Arctic Skua north.
At Ravenscar there was a Redstart, a Wheatear, a Yellow Wagtail,2 Willow Warbler and 70 Meadow Pipit. The Little Grebe was still on Johnson’s Marsh. In Jackson’s Bay there were 10 Redshank and 10 Dunlin and 15 Ringed Plover plus a Bar-tailed Godwit, 2 Curlew and 20 Oystercatcher. A Little Egret seen feeding off Marine Drive was presumably the same that was on Johnson’s Marsh later in the evening, the two Pale-bellied Brent Geese were at Scalby Mills and a Dunlin was in North Bay.

On the move (south unless stated) were 1 Red-throated Diver, 6 Fulmar + 4 north, 1 Shag, 8 Dunlin, 3 Black-headed Gull north, 15 Little Gull north, 2 Common Gull, 2 Lesser Black-backed Gull + 1 north and 16 Sandwich Tern.
The 2 Pale-bellied Brent Geese were still at Scalby Mills, a Little Grebe, 7 Teal and 12 Grey Heron were on Johnson’s Marsh and a Wheatear was at Seamer Tip.

The month began with another Osprey at Ellerburn during the afternoon.
Elsewhere the 2 Pale-bellied Brent Geese remained off Scalby Mills, a Wheatear was along Marine Drive and the Little Grebe and 5 Teal were on Johnson’s Marsh.

On the move (south unless stated) were 8 Fulmar + 6 north, 1 Cormorant + 1 north, 1 Teal north, 4 Common Scoter north, 2 Oystercatcher, 1 Whimbrel, 3 Black-headed Gull, 1 juvenile Mediterranean Gull north, 3 Common Gull + 1 north, 2 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 9 Sandwich Tern + 3 north, 2 Common Tern + 46 north, 2 Arctic Skua, 11 Auk sp north, 1 Swift, 2 Grey Wagtail, 10 Meadow Pipit, 1 Rock Pipit north, 63 House Martin, 3 Sand Martin, 49 Swallow, 21 Tree Sparrow, 2 Linnet and 5 Goldfinch.
A Little Grebe, 3 Teal and 13 Grey Heron were on Johnson’s Marsh, the 2 Pale-bellied Brent Geese were still at Scalby Mills, 3 Sanderling, 7 Dunlin, 2 Knot, a Bar-tailed Godwit, 23 Ringed Plover, 27 Redshank, 50 Oystercatcher and 18 Turnstone were in Jackson’s Bay and a Dunlin and a Whimbrel were in North Bay.
Willow Warblers were recorded in Scalby Beck and in North Bay.
