Migration watch; 07.15 – 11.20hrs.
On the move (north unless stated) were 2 Red-throated Diver, 51 Fulmar + 29 south including 1 ‘blue’ Fulmar north, 1 Manx Shearwater (first of the year), 16 Gannet + 27 south, 2 Cormorant, 1 Shag, 5 Teal south, 5 Common Scoter south, 1 Woodcock in off, 2 Black-headed Gull south, 17 Common Gull + 35 south, 3 Lesser Black-backed Gull + 3 south, 3 Great Black-backed Gull + 30 south, 5 Kittiwake + 1 south and 1 Auk sp.
Migrants in the Long Nab area included a Blackcap, 3 Chiffchaff, a Fieldfare, 19 Goldcrest and a Treecreeper.
Elsewhere 2 Jack Snipe and 7 Snipe were along Taylor Way, 4 Gadwall were on Seamer Tip Pool and 2 Black-necked Grebe were in the Harbour as were 78 Turnstone.

Migration watch; 06.50 – 12.20hrs.
On the move (south unless stated) were 5 Fulmar + 11 north, 1 Gannet + 5 north, 1 Cormorant + 2 north, 1 Shag north, 1 Canada Goose, 1 Common Scoter, 3 Oystercatcher north, 1 Snipe, 5 Black-headed Gull, 21 Common Gull + 22 north, 2 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 16 Great Black-backed Gull + 3 north, 3 Kittiwake + 1 north, 1 Auk sp north, 23 Meadow Pipit, 11 Alba, 1 Chaffinch, 3 Goldfinch and 11 Linnet.
Migrants in the Long Nab area included a litoralis Rock Pipit, 30 Meadow Pipit, 1 Redwing, 2 Chiffchaff and 12 Goldcrest. On Johnson’s Marsh there were 2 Shelduck, 2 Gadwall, 16 Curlew, 3 Oystercatcher, 3 Tufted Duck, 24 Wigeon and 4 Teal. The Bar-tailed Godwit was back in Jackson’s Bay, an Eider was in Cornelian Bay with a Chiffchaff in the Ravine there and 3 Chiffchaff and the first returning Swallow were seen at Ellerburn.

Saturday 26th March 2016

In Cornelian Bay there were 4 Dunlin, 3 Knot and an Eider while a Chiffchaff and 3 Goldcrest were in the Ravine there.
A Green Woodpecker was along Rudda Road, a Green Sandpiper was at Seamer Tip, a Black-necked Grebe remained in the Harbour. A Canada Goose was in South Bay, 2 Shelduck flew south off Marine Drive and the first Sand Martin of the year flew east over Cayton.

Friday 25th March 2016

Migration watch; 09.45 – 11.15hrs.
On the move (north unless stated) were 11 Common Gull, 8 Meadow Pipit, 2 Alba, 4 Jackdaw, 2 Rook, 16 Carrion Crow, 21 Starling south, 16 Chaffinch, 6 Goldfinch and 9 Linnet.
A Chiffchaff was at Long Nab, 1 was in Scalby Beck, 3 were in Cornelian Ravine with a single Goldcrest and 2 were at Knipe Point.
A single Black-necked Grebe was in the Harbour, 48 Brambling were in New Dike Seamer Tip, 78 Fieldfare were in Star Carr, 2 Green Woodpecker were at Jugger Howe, 3 Jack Snipe and 2 Snipe were along Taylor Way.
On Potter Brompton Carr (no general access) there was a singing Willow Tit, 1 Jack Snipe, 2 Pintail, 12 Wigeon, 8 Shoveler, 53 Lapwing and 2 Snipe, a Bar-tailed Godwit was in Jackson’s Bay with 28 Oystercatcher, 12 Redshank, 11 Curlew and 6 Turnstone, 2 Stonechat were on Scalby Nab and 38 Wigeon were at Scalby Mills.

Migration watch; 06.20 – 09.25hrs.
On the move (north unless stated) were 1 Red-throated Diver, 4 Gannet south, 5 Cormorant, 2 Greylag Geese, 6 Black-headed Gull, 1 Common Gull, 55 Herring Gull + 12 south, 2 Great Black-backed Gull, 9 Kittiwake south, 1 Guillemot, 3 Meadow Pipit + 1 south, 1 Rock Pipit south and 2 Starling south.
Four Snipe, 26 Blackbird, 1 Redwing, 3 Goldcrest and 55 Linnet were in the Long Nab area.
Elsewhere a Goosander was on the Mere and the pair of Pintail, 5 Snipe, 14 Wigeon and 12 Shoveler were on Potter Brompton Carr (no general access).

Migration watch: 10.00 – 11.30hrs.
On the move (north unless stated) were 2 Cormorant +1 south, 5 Meadow Pipit + 3 south and 1 Alba south.
The American Wigeon was at Scalby Mills, a Black-necked Grebe was in the Harbour, a Great Crested Grebe and 29 Tufted Duck were at the Mere, a Chiffchaff, 2 Pintail, 12 Shoveler, 7 Teal, 3 Wigeon and 60 Fieldfare were on Potter Brompton Carr (no general access), the first Bar-tailed Godwit flew southwest over Willerby Carr, 7 Snipe and 4 Jack Snipe were along Taylor Way, nearby a Shoveler, 10 Gadwall and 4 Coot were on Seamer Tip Pool. At Harwood Dale Lake there were 560 Common Gull, a Goosander and 2 Shelduck, a Green Woodpecker was at Scar Wood, 30 Linnet were on Willerby Carr, 3 Great Crested Grebe and 2 Coot were on Burton Riggs and a singing Chiffchaff was new near Morrisons at Seamer.
Along the coast 2 Goldcrest were new in Crook Ness with another in North Bay.

Newly arrived Chiffchaffs were noted at Burton Riggs and along Taylor Way. The Coot remained on Peasholm Park, the American Wigeon was still at Scalby Mills and 2 Black-necked Grebe were in the Harbour.

Monday 21st March 2016.

On the move (north unless stated) 1 Red-throated Diver south, 2 Fulmar + 2 south, 13 Gannet + 1 south, 5 Cormorant + 1 south, 2 Shelduck, 1 Kestrel, 67 Black-headed Gull + 51 south, 15 Common Gull + 7 south, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 309 Herring Gull, 8 Great Black-backed Gull + 2 south, 1 Kittiwake + 3 south, 24 Meadow Pipit, 3 Alba, 29 Carrion Crow, 3 Goldfinch and 12 Linnet.
A couple off additions to the year list appeared, firstly 3 Black-tailed Godwit present at Wykeham South Lake early morning and finally 2 Corn Bunting back on Willerby Carr.
The American Wigeon was still at Scalby Mills, 2 Pintail, 22 Shoveler, 90 Teal and 7 Whooper Swan were on Potter Brompton Carr (no general access), 2 Goldeneye and a Green Woodpecker were also present at Wykeham South Lake, 2 Black-necked Grebe were still in the Harbour and a White Wagtail was with 31 Pied Wagtail at Long Nab while 2 Shelduck were also there.

On the move (north unless stated) were 2 Red-throated Diver south, 80 Fulmar + 2 south, 99 Gannet + 12 south, 10 Cormorant + 4 south, 4 Shag, 5 Greylag Goose, 1 Oystercatcher south, 3 Black-headed Gull south, 3 Common Gull, 2 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 2 Great Black-backed Gull, 9 Kittiwake + 20 south, 7 Auk sp + 5 south, 6 Meadow Pipit, 5 Rock Pipit, 5 Alba, 1 Stonechat south, 21 Redwing, 8 Carrion Crow, 3 Starling, 5 Chaffinch, 11 Linnet, 1 Redpoll sp and 1 Yellowhammer.
A Jack Snipe, 3 Brambling, 2 Pintail, 103 Teal, 18 Shoveler, 4 Egyptian Geese and 7 Whooper Swan were on Potter Brompton Carr (no general access), 500 Golden Plover were on Willerby Carr, the Great Grey Shrike was seen again in Langdale Forest at Maw Rigg, 2 Black-necked Grebe were in the Harbour and the American Wigeon remained at Scalby Mills.

On the move (north unless stated) were 1 Red-throated Diver south, 21 Fulmar, 126 Gannet + 11 south, 4 Teal, 1 Eider south, 3 Common Gull south, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 147 Herring Gull + 16 south, 6 Great Black-backed Gull, 23 Kittiwake + 1 south and 13 Auk sp + 1 south.
The American Wigeon was still at Scalby Mills, 2 Pintail, 73 Teal, a Dunlin, 20 Wigeon, 18 Shoveler, 6 Shelduck, a Jack Snipe, 5 Snipe, 45 Lapwing, a Kingfisher and 14 Lesser Black-backed Gull were on Potter Brompton Carr (no general access), 2 Water Rail were in the Open Air Theatre, 6 Shoveler, 12 Gadwall and a Pochard were on Seamer Tip, 9 Goosander were on Throxenby Mere, 2 Black-necked Grebe were in the Harbour, 31 Curlew were on Scalby Lodge Pond, 3 Knot were in Cornelian Bay and the first pair of Lesser Black-backed Gulls were noted back on territory on Spring Bank.

Friday 18th March 2016

On Wykeham South Lake there was a drake Common Scoter, a Pink-footed Goose, a Goldeneye, 920 Common Gull, 460 Black-headed Gull, 480 Herring Gull, 5 Great Black Backed Gull, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull and a 2nd winter Mediterranean Gull while 19 Redwing were nearby. On Potter Brompton Carr (no general access) there were 3 Dunlin, 5 Shelduck, 18 Shoveler, 6 Gadwall and 14 Lesser Black-backed Gull. Two Black-necked Grebe was still in the Harbour, a Great Crested Grebe was in South Bay, 2 Water Rail were in the Open Air Theatre, the American Wigeon remained at Scalby Mills, 200 Redwing flew north over Biller Howe Moor and a Coot was on Peasholm Park Lake.

On the move (north unless stated) were 1 Red-throated Diver south, 9 Fulmar, 10 Gannet + 4 south, 5 Shag, 2 Curlew, 2 Black-headed Gull south, 2 Common Gull, 2 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 155 Herring Gull, 1 Kittiwake + 4 south, 10 Auk sp, 1 Skylark, 1 Alba, 8 Starling south and 7 Linnet.
The American Wigeon was still at Scalby Mills, 2 Mediterranean Gull were at Holbeck, 8 Goosander were on the Mere and 3 Pink-footed Geese and a Goldeneye were on Wykeham South Lake.

A Bittern, only the 14th Scarborough record, was watched flying northwest over the University along Filey Road at 10.44hrs – the first good migrant of spring and hopefully the first of many to come!
Elsewhere a Merlin, 6 Snipe, 14 Shoveler, 7 Gadwall, 10 Wigeon, a Pink-footed Goose, 60 Fieldfare and 20 Redwing were on Potter Brompton Carr (no general access), 19 Whooper Swan remained on Sherburn Ings, 18 Redwing were at Haybridge Farm, a Water Rail and a Kingfisher were at the Mere, the American Wigeon was still at Scalby Mills and a Mediterranean Gull was at Holbeck.

Monday 14th – Tuesday 15th March 2016

Migration watch; 06.55 – 09.15hrs.
On the move (north unless stated) were 1 Cormorant, 6 Greylag Geese, 1 Barnacle Goose, 3 Lapwing south, 1 Curlew south, 11 Black-headed Gull south, 8 Common Gull south, 105 Herring Gull south, 6 Kittiwake south, 1 Auk sp south, 1 Meadow Pipit south, 2 Alba south and 8 Linnet south.

The only report on the 15th was of 4 Mediterranean Gulls at Holbeck.

The American Wigeon was still at Scalby Mills, 2 Black-necked Grebe were in the Harbour, 5 Mediterranean Gull were at Holbeck, 34 Redshank were on Scalby Lodge Pond, 4 White-fronted Geese, a Pochard, 4 Shoveler, 2 Pink-footed and a Barnacle Goose and 35 Yellowhammer were at Wykeham South Lake, 23 Dunlin and 105 Lapwing were on Cayton Carr, an Eider, 4 Grey Plover, 2 Knot and 2 Ringed Plover were in Cornelian Bay and a Woodcock was at Stoupe Brow.

On the move (south unless stated) were 4 Red-throated Diver + 1 north, 1 Great Crested Grebe north, 12 Fulmar north, 11 Gannet, 1 Cormorant + 9 north, 1 Shag north, 1 Greylag Goose, 1 Lapwing north, 65 Black-headed Gull + 3 north, 20 Common Gull north, 56 Herring Gull + 153 north, 2 Great Black-backed Gull + 3 north, 14 Kittiwake, 6 Auk sp = 3 north, 1 Stock Dove, 9 Skylark, 2 Meadow Pipit + 8 north, 2 Rock Pipit, 140 Starling and 8 Linnet + 1 north.
The drake Long-tailed Duck ranged between Cornelian and Cayton Bay with 3 Great Crested Grebe feeding in Cornelian Bay. The American Wigeon continued its long stay at Scalby Mills where there were 2 Eider, 35 Wigeon, 30 Teal, 2 Shelduck, 3 Tufted Duck and 2 Oystercatcher were on Johnson’s Marsh while a Stonechat was at High Yedmandale.

A rather spring like morning, Potter Brompton Carr (no general access) produced 180 Lapwing including some displaying, 2 Golden Plover, 20 Dunlin, 4 Curlew, 1 Oystercatcher, 4 Snipe, 11 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 16 Shoveler, 5 Gadwall, 35 Wigeon, 25 Teal, 1 Pochard, 15 Fieldfare and the first Nuthatch for the site as well as a trickle of Meadow Pipit and Skylark heading north.
What was presumably the same drake Long-tailed Duck seen last month in Cornelian Bay was located again there, the American Wigeon was still at Scalby Mills along with 370 Wigeon and 3 Teal while at least 1 Black-necked Grebe was still in the Harbour.
At Wykeham South Lake there were 4 White-fronted Geese, 2 Pink-footed Geese, 12 Great Crested Grebe and 19 Wigeon while 25 Whooper Swan were on Sherburn Ings.

The American Wigeon was still present in North Bay seen from the Marine Drive today. At least 300 Kittiwake were back in South Bay and off Marine Drive while 2 Black-necked Grebe were in the Harbour.

Migration watch; 08.30 – 10.20hrs.
On the move (south unless stated) were 1 Red-throated Diver north, 2 Fulmar, 3 Cormorant north, 1 Lapwing north, 8 Black-headed Gull, 28 Common Gull, 1 Kittiwake, 1 Guillemot and 1 Skylark north.
The American Wigeon was seen again at Scalby Mills, a Black-necked Grebe was in the Harbour where a Dunlin was also present and up to 6 Mediterranean Gull were at Holbeck.

Migration watch; 08.20 – 10.30hrs.
The American Wigeon was still at Scalby Mills along with 221 Wigeon, a Black-necked Grebe and Purple Sandpiper was in the Harbour and 5 Goshawk were over Troutsdale. At Wykeham South Lake there were 1600 Black-headed Gull, 1 2nd summer Mediterranean Gull and 500 Common Gull, 2 Shelduck and 39 Curlew were on Scalby Lodge Pond and 43 Golden Plover, 195 Lapwing, 1 Dunlin and 600 Starling were on Cayton Carr.
On the move (south unless stated) were 1 Red-throated Diver, 3 Fulmar north, 2 Cormorant north, 2 Common Gull, 38 Herring Gull north, 6 Great Black-backed Gull and 2 Guillemot north.

Migration watch; 07.00 – 09.40hrs.
On the move (north unless stated) were 1 Red-throated Diver + 4 south, 13 Fulmar + 1 south, 91 Gannet + 9 south, 10 Greylag Goose, 2 Shelduck, 3 Common Scoter south, 1 Curlew, 4 Black-headed Gull, 4 Common Gull + 8 south, 121 Herring Gull + 18 south, 9 Great Black-backed Gull + 5 south, 2 Kittiwake + 5 south and 26 Auk sp + 5 south.
Elsewhere an adult Kittiwake was at Wykeham South Lake along with 5 Shoveler, 3 Goldeneye, a Barnacle Goose and 2 Pink-footed Geese. A Brambling was in Hutton Buscel, the Great Grey Shrike was seen in Langdale Forest as were 30 Brambling, 38 Wigeon and 14 Teal were on Johnson’s Marsh, a Black-necked Grebe was in the Harbour and the American Wigeon remained at Scalby Mills.

Saturday 5th March 2016

The American Wigeon was still present at Scalby Mills, as was the Great Grey Shrike in Langdale Forest. Elsewhere a Black-necked Grebe was seen in the Harbour, 7 Little Egret were on Cayton Carr, at Potter Brompton Carr (no general access) there was a White Wagtail, 400 Lapwing, 13 Wigeon and 4 Lesser Black-backed Gull. On Sherburn Carr there were 36 Whooper Swan, 14 Gadwall, 3 Goldeneye, a Barnacle Goose, 1000 Black-headed Gull, 600 Common Gull a Brambling and 30 Yellowhammer were seen on Wykeham South Lake and a Pink-footed Goose was on Seamer Tip pool.

Thursday 3rd – Friday 4th March 2016

The only reports over the two days came on the 3rd. At Potter Brompton Carr (no general access) were 450 Golden Plover, 360 Lapwing, 6 Dunlin, 2 Curlew, 1 Jack Snipe and an Egyptian Goose, a Snipe, a Dunlin, 10 Shoveler and 4 Goldeneye were at Wykeham South Lake, 5 Goshawk were seen over Troutsdale, a Marsh Tit and 22 Brambling were at Seamer Tip and 2 Willow Tit and a Chiffchaff were at Seamer Carr. 

Tuesday 1st – Wednesday 2nd March 2016

A couple of quiet days, the 1st produced the American Wigeon at Scalby Mills where a Great Crested Grebe was also seen.

The wintering Great Grey Shrike in Langdale Forest was still present again in the Lun Rigg area while the American Wigeon was still in situ at Scalby Mills where there were 3 Lesser Black-backed Gull.
In Cornelian Bay there were 3 Knot, 2 Dunlin and a Ringed Plover, a Jack Snipe, 450 Golden Plover, 360 Lapwing, 6 Dunlin, 2 Curlew and an Egyptian Goose were on Potter Brompton Carr (no general access), a Snipe, a Dunlin, 10 Shoveler and 4 Goldeneye were at Wykeham South Lake, 5 Goshawk were seen over Troutsdale, 22 Brambling were at Seamer Tip and 2 Willow Tit and a Chiffchaff were on Star Carr.

Tuesday 1st – Wednesday 2nd March 2016

A Snipe was present at Long Nab, the Great Grey Shrike was seen again in the Lun Rigg area and a Barnacle Goose, 3 Pink-footed Geese, 2 Shoveler, 5 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 900 Common Gull and 450 Black-headed Gull were at Wykeham South Lake.

On the move (north unless stated) were 14 Fulmar + 8 south, 6 Gannet + 48 south, 1 Cormorant, 1 Oystercatcher south, 5 Black-headed Gull south, 4 Common Gull south, 222 Herring Gull + 9 south, 16 Great Black-backed Gull, 2 Kittiwake, 6 Auk sp + 1 south and 4 Carrion Crow.
The American Wigeon remained at Scalby Mills, a Snipe, 60 Linnet and a Lapland Bunting were present at Long Nab, 8 Shoveler, 4 Goldeneye and 27 Lapwing were on Wykeham South Lake, the Great Grey Shrike in Langdale Forest was seen again at Lun Rigg, 3 Grey Plover, 3 Knot and 4 Ringed Plover were in Cornelian Bay, a Stonechat was at Stoup Brow and 38 Golden Plover, 25 Brambling and 2 Kingfisher were on Star Carr.

Migration watch; 07.05 – 10.20hrs.
On the move (north unless stated) were 2 Red-throated Diver + 1 south, 13 Fulmar + 2 south, 3 Gannet = 36 south, 3 Cormorant + 2 south, 110 Pink-footed Geese, 1 Shelduck south, 2 Eider, 10 Common Scoter, 2 Black-headed Gull south, 17 Common Gull + 20 south, 275 Herring Gull, 19 Great Black-backed Gull, 14 Auk sp + 4 south, 1 Grey Wagtail and 7 Carrion Crow + 4 south.
The American Wigeon was still in situ and was joined by 2 Pintail. Seven Mediterranean Gull remained at Holbeck, single Jack Snipe, 31 Snipe, 5 Woodcock, 120 Golden Plover, 80 Lapwing, 1 Dunlin, 1 Curlew, 1 Egyptian Goose, 1 Shelduck, 1 Water Rail and 180 Fieldfare were on Potter Brompton Carr (no general access), 36 Whooper Swan were on Sherburn Carr, 4 Ringed Plover and 2 Knot were in Cornelian Bay, a Green Sandpiper was on Willerby Carr and a Snipe was at Long Nab.

Thursday 25th – Friday 26th February 2016

The 25th was a rather dull day with no reports.

Seen on the 26th was the American Wigeon still at Scalby Mills with at least 460 Wigeon. Two Black-necked Grebe were still in the Harbour, 11 Gadwall, 11 Shoveler, 7 Tufted Duck, 1 Pochard and 1 Wigeon were on Seamer Tip, a Grey Plover and 2 Knot were in Cornelian Bay, 230 Fieldfare, 20 Redwing, a Little Egret, 26 Teal and 120 Lapwing were on Star Carr and 5 Teal and 48 Fieldfare were on Flotmanby Carr.
