A Quail was heard calling early this morning behind Starr Carr Farm. This afternoon a Hobby was spotted over Scarborough cricket ground.

A dark male Honey Buzzard was seen from Wykeham Raptor Viewpoint yesterday. This morning a Spotted Flycatcher was seen in the Moor Dyke area in the south-east corner of Wykeham Forest.

What is happening? No sightings reported on the Whatsapp group for 3 days now! Yesterday's highlights from Long Nab included 138 Manx Shearwaters, 42 Common Scoter and 205 Puffins all heading north.

Monday 24th June

On Saturday 2 Bottlenose Dolphins were seen about 1.5 miles out and moving slowly north past Long Nab. Also seen passing Long Nab were a Red-throated Diver heading north and an Arctic Tern going south, while a juvenile Stonechat was present near the observation hut.
On Sunday 2 Avocets flew south past Long Nab early in the morning.
Today there were 2 Little Egrets at Burton Riggs and 2 more at Johnson's Marsh. At Northstile Pool there was a Green Sandpiper, 4 Tufted Duck and a pair of Teal.

Friday 21st June

The juvenile Marine Drive Peregrine fledged early this morning. 3 Honey Buzzards were seen from Wykeham Raptor Viewpoint and 710 Swifts flew south past Long Nab. A Cuckoo was in the hedge one field south of Crook Ness, and in the same area a Short-eared Owl was hunting over the oilseed rape fields. An Osprey was spotted over Hilla Green.

The only report in today has once again been of Honey Buzzards seen from Wykeham Raptor Viewpoint: 2 males and a female seen between 10:30 and noon.

A Hobby was spotted flying west over Crossgates this morning. Four Honey Buzzards were reported from Wykeham Raptor Viewpoint, and a Corn Bunting was heard singing this evening at Low Marishes.

Not a lot of news in today. 5 Oystercatchers were seen at Taylor Way, and a Yellow Wagtail was on Starr Carr Lane. A Hobby flew west over Cayton/Folkton Road this afternoon.

Monday 17th June

63 Swifts flew south over Knipe Point in 10 minutes early this morning, and at Long Nab 145 more were seen heading south later in the morning. A Hobby, a Red Kite, 2 Goshawks and 6 Common Buzzards were seen from Wykeham Raptor Viewpoint, plus a distant Honey Buzzard displaying.

Sunday 16th June

Two or three Honey Buzzards were seen this morning from Wykeham Raptor Viewpoint, including the pale male. A Marsh Tit was spotted at Burton Riggs, and a Reed Warbler and 4 pairs of Sedge Warblers were on the 'mounds' near Seamer Tip Pools. A Painted Lady was seen on Yedmandale Road in West Ayton, and at least 210 Swifts flew over Valley Road/Westwood Court this evening. 5 Sandwich Terns were in North Bay and a Lesser Black-backed Gull was in Peasholm Park.

A Reed Warbler was present this morning between North Cliff Golf Course and the mini railway, and a Honey Buzzard was seen from Wykeham Raptor Viewpoint. A Cuckoo was seen flying over Crossgates towards Seamer, and 2 Red Kites also flew over Crossgates heading north. A Hummingbird Hawkmoth plus several Painted Lady butterflies were in a garden by Westwood Close, on a Buddleia bush.

A very quiet couple of days. No reports in yesterday; today an adult Mediterranean Gull was seen at Oliver's Mount and 4 Turtle Doves were again present near the Mill Inn in Harwood Dale.

A Great Skua flew north at Long Nab this morning, and a pair of Rock Pipits were feeding their young at Hundale Point. Early this evening a Hobby was spotted over Crossgates.

The Cetti's Warbler is still present, and singing occasionally, at Potter Brompton Carr. 4 Turtle Doves were seen at Malton Cote, and 9 Tufted Duck and a Coot were at Seamer Road Mere.

The pale male Honey Buzzard showed briefly a couple of times this morning at Wykeham Raptor Viewpoint. A drake Eider was seen off Marine Drive, and there was a Mediterranean Gull at Burton Riggs. At Seamer Road Mere there were a pair of Shovelers, 9 Tufted Duck and a Coot, as well as 3 recently fledged Great Spotted Woodpeckers. 8 or more Bottlenose Dolphins were spotted from Holbeck car park this evening. 4 Eider flew south past Scalby Mills, where there were 8 Grey Herons present, one of them a juvenile. There were 2 Little Egrets at Flotmanby Carr and 2+ Turtle Doves at the Mill Inn, Harwood Dale.

Two Honey Buzzards were seen from Wykeham Raptor Viewpoint early this morning. A Green Sandpiper was at Johnson's Marsh, and a very noisy Mediterranean Gull was near Raflatac on the Eastfield industrial estate. 140 Common Scoter and 47 Manx Shearwaters went past Long Nab through the morning, plus 14 Painted Lady butterflies. A Hobby was spotted over Crossgates, flying towards Seamer this afternoon, and a second calendar year Mediterranean Gull was at Scalby Mills. In Jackson's Bay there were 2 Ringed Plovers, 4 Turnstones and 21 Oystercatchers.

At Burton Riggs the Kingfishers have bred successfully and there was a juvenile Black-headed Gull there today. At Seamer Tip Pool there was a female Gadwall with 8 ducklings and Mute Swan with 7 cygnets. Highlights past Long Nab include 6 Shelduck, 57 Manx Shearwaters, a Blue Fulmar, a Curlew, 2 Great Skuas and 38 Puffins. 4 Turtle Doves were at the Mill Inn, another was near Givendale in Dalby Forest, and another 2 were on the road near Malton Cote Farm.

The first post breeding juvenile Black-headed Gull was seen going south at Long Nab this morning. A Hobby, a Yellow Wagtail and a Buzzard were seen at Flotmanby on a survey of TA0080, and a Honey Buzzard was displaying behind Wykeham Raptor Viewpoint, south of the nursery. A Cuckoo was singing in Harwood Dale Forest; 2 singing Redstarts and a Spotted Flycatcher were seen in Scar Wood; 2 Turtle Doves were purring at The Mill Inn; and a female Mandarin was at Harwood Dale Lake. On Fylingdales Moor, Red Grouse could be seen from the layby at Low Moor (near the A171/B1416 junction).

The Cetti's Warbler was still at Potter Brompton Carr this morning, where there was also a Kingfisher and a Spotted Flycatcher. Another Spotted Flycatcher plus 3 Garden Warblers and 2 Blackcaps were seen at Sutherbuff Rigg in Dalby Forest. Highlights from Long Nab this morning included 202 Manx Shearwaters and 233 Swifts, mostly going south, while a Little Egret flew past northwards. A pair of Shoveler were at Johnson's Marsh and a Fulmar was seen over Seamer Road Mere. A Honey Buzzard made a brief appearance at Wykeham Raptor Viewpoint, where there were also 2 Tree Pipits, 2 Crossbills, and Common Buzzards. The Quail was again singing south of Wykeham Grange Farm, and 2 more Quail were also heard singing on a survey of TA0078, where the other highlight was a flock of 74 Linnets.

4 Nightjars were heard churring last night at Ebberston Common Moor, while 3 purring Turtle Doves, a Cuckoo, a Willow Tit, Tree Pipits and Crossbills were detected on an early morning survey in Dalby Forest. A Common Sandpiper was present at Wykeham South Lake, a Willow Tit was at Burton Riggs, and a Yellow Wagtail was at Metes Lane in Seamer. A morning watch at Wykeham Raptor Viewpoint saw Goshawk, Crossbills, Siskins, Tree Pipits, Bullfinch, and an appearance from the pale Honey Buzzard, though it was not displaying. 36 Herring Gull and 22 Fulmar nests were found at Cloughton Wyke, plus 10 Herring Gull and 2 Fulmar nests at The Hundales. 72 Sand Martins also have nest holes at Cloughton Wyke. Late this morning an Osprey was spotted over the A64/B1258 junction near West Knapton. The Little Egret remains at Johnson's Marsh.

A Honey Buzzard was seen from Wykeham Raptor Viewpoint at 8:00 this morning, and another (the pale male) showed briefly in the middle of the day. Also seen from there were a Red Kite and a Hobby. A Quail was once again heard singing south of Wykeham Grange Farm from in the barley field. 14 Sandwich Terns were feeding all morning in Cayton Bay; the Little Egret was still at Johnson's Marsh; and 2 Ringed Plovers flew north at Long Nab.

Five Spoonbills flew north along the coast, initially seen over Filey and were watched to continue north into the Scarborough area. They were later seen in Northumberland. The Little Egret was still at Johnson's Marsh this morning, a Mediterranean Gull was in Cayton, and a Honey Buzzard was again displaying at Wykeham Raptor Viewpoint. A Quail was still calling south of Wykeham Grange Farm and another was calling near Boggle Hole.There were ten or more Yellowhammers on Limestone Road, Burniston, a Red Kite was seen over the A170 near Thornton Dale, and a Hobby flew in from the south-east at North Bay and flew on northwards. At Wykeham South Lake there were 2 Egyptian Geese, an Oystercatcher, and a Great Crested Grebe but little else, probably due to a lot of human activity. An adult Mediterranean Gull was seen over Taylor Way, and several bee orchids were reported to be by the first pond at Seamer Tip. A Turtle Dove was seen at Givendale Head and 6 were at the Mill Inn this evening. A Common Buzzard flew north over Peasholm mid-afternoon, and at least 140 Swifts were over the Valley Road area this evening. At Seamer Road Mere there were 10 Tufted Duck and a single Black-headed Gull.

A Quail was heard singing early this morning in fields just south of Wykeham Grange Farm, Low Moor, and was still calling mid-afternoon in the same place, where there was also a Yellow Wagtail singing. A Honey Buzzard was seen wing clapping from Wykeham Raptor Viewpoint early morning, and a pale male Honey Buzzard was seen there late afternoon, plus a Red Kite, a Hobby, a Goshawk, a Kestrel, 2 Garden Warblers, a Tree Pipit and 6+ Crossbills. 3 Eiders flew south past Long Nab, and a summer Mediterranean Gull was seen around Cayton.
