 Highlights past Long Nab included a juvenile Pomarine Skua, Balearic Shearwater, 2 Great Skuas, Grey Plover, 27 Whimbrel, Greenshank, and 4 Red-throated Divers. One Spotted Redshank at Potter Brompton Carr, also 2 Ruff, 5 Greenshank, 3 Dunlin, 3 Green Sandpipers, Great White Egret, 12 Little Egrets, and a Hobby. A Greenshank flew south over Seamer tip pool, also 4 Little Grebes there (2 ad, 2 juvs). A Little Egret at Ellerburn. A Grasshopper Warbler gave a brief reel at St Nicholas Gardens. Two Lapwing, Whimbrel, Sanderling in Jackson's Bay. 30 House Martins over Ellerburn Trail, Dalby Forest.

 Two juvenile Spotted Redshank new in at Potter Brompton Carr this morning, the two Curlew Sandpipers still present, but not seen after 11am. Also there today: Hobby, Merlin, Peregrine, Shelduck, 7 Marsh Harriers (2 male, 1 adult female, 4 juveniles), 15 Little Egrets, 2 Great White Egrets, 3 Yellow Wagtails, 6 Dunlin, Ringed Plover, 2 Greenshank. A Kingfisher at Burton Riggs. Three Willow, 4 Marsh Tits, 3 Crossbills, and good numbers of Goldcrests in Wykeham Forest. A Hobby over Gristhorpe village. Two Kingfishers on R Derwent near Wrench Green. An adult Mediterranean Gull at Scalby Mills plus 6 Dunlin over. A Dipper at Scalby Beck near the Youth Hostel. Highlights past Long Nab today included a Balearic Shearwater, 4 Sooty Shearwaters, Great Skua, 1164 Common Terns (940 south this eve), 8 Snipe.

 The two Curlew Sandpipers were still at Potter Brompton Carr this morning (not viewable from Haybridge). A Wheatear at Long Nab, south past were a juvenile Black Tern, 143 Common Terns, 16 Arctic Terns, a Great White Egret, Little Egret, Hobby, 33 Swifts, 43 Sand Martins, 64 House Martins, 233 Swallows, 12 Meadow Pipits. Also at Potter Brompton Carr; 3 Dunlin, 3 Ringed Plover (+1 south), 6 Green Sandpipers, 5 Greenshank, 2 Kingfishers, 3 Great White Egrets, 15 Little Egrets, 3 Marsh Harriers. A Golden Plover flew south. At NY Water Park: Little Ringed Plover, 3 Ringed Plovers, Marsh Harrier, 12 Sand Martins. 100 Goldfinches, 2 Whitethroats, 4 Chiffchaff, 2 Tree Sparrows Cayton Bay. A Wheatear at Jugger Howe Moor. At Scalby Mills; juvenile Caspian Gull, Dunlin, 70 Sandwich Terns, 4 Arctic Terns, plus 3 Whimbrel flew south.

 Two juvenile Curlew Sandpipers were at Potter Brompton Carr this eve (not viewable from Heybridge). Also there today 85 Teal, Water Rail, 3 Great White Egrets, 11 Little Egrets, 4 Green Sandpipers, 6 Greenshank, Dunlin, 3 Ringed Plover, 39 Snipe, and 4 Marsh Harriers. Two Ravens over Troutsdale. Two Swifts south over Burniston. At East Lake (NY Water Park): Little Egret, 2 Ringed Plover, Common Sandpiper, 102 Teal, 6 Sand Martins. Three Crossbills, a Willow Tit at Harwood Dale Forest. A migrant Sedge Warbler at Scalby Nab. 150 Sandwich, 25 Common Terns at Scalby Mills. Past Long Nab today: 674 Teal, 251 Common Scoter, 4 Shelduck, 28 Wigeon, 6 Whimbrel, Great Skua, Caspian and Yellow-legged Gull feeding offshore in the evening, 12 Swifts and 126 Swallows south.

Whinchat at Jackson's Bay, also 2 Sanderling, 38 Ringed Plover, 2 Dunlin, Whimbrel, 15 Turnstone. An adult and juvenile Roseate Tern at Scalby Mills at midday, 80 Sandwich and 8 Common Terns. A Swift over Crossgates plus one at Scalby Beck, 14 over The Spa. The Pink-footed Goose still at Peasholm Park Lake. At Potter Brompton Carr; 2 Black-tailed Godwits, 6 Ringed Plover, 3 Dunlin, 5 Greenshank, 3 Green Sandpipers, 16 Snipe, Great White Egret, 2 Water Rails, 5 Marsh Harriers (yesterday's tagged bird not present), Shoveler, Wigeon. Three Swifts over South Bay. at Scalby Mills; 14 Cormorants, 13 Oystercatchers, 2 Redshank, 1 Curlew, 1 Turnstone, 2 Lbb Gulls, a juvenile Mediterranean Gull, a juvenile Caspian Gull, 4 Gbb Gulls, 25 Kittiwakes, and 48 Sandwich Terns.

Highlights from 10.75 hours; Balearic Shearwater, Sooty Shearwater, 894 Manx Shearwaters, 3 Egyptian Geese, good numbers of waders incl 20 Ringed Plover, Little Stint, 75 Whimbrel, Black-tailed Godwit, 3 Caspian and a Yellow-legged Gull, Little Gull. A Sedge Warbler at the scrape. Early morning at Gristhorpe Bay; 4 Little Egrets, 52 Cormorants, 8 Grey Herons, 46 Sandwich Terns, 78 Oystercatchers, 2 Redshank, 5 Turnstone, 6 Curlew. Eight Yellow Wagtails nearby. A Hobby over Ellerburn fish farm. Three Peregrines around Cromer Point.  Four juvenile Caspian Gulls were reported along the coast today; two attending crab boats off Long Nab, one off Cornelian Bay, and one at Scalby Mills. The drake Eider was feeding below Long Nab Bird Observatory, 2 Whimbrel and a Merlin flew south, 2 Little Egrets flew north. A Little Egret again at Johnson's Marsh, where a Hobby flew over at midday. At Potter Brompton Carr; 3 Great White Egrets, 12 Little Egrets, 3 Ruff, 5 Redshank, 4 Greenshank, 5 Green Sandpipers, 2 Marsh Harriers, and 54 Teal. A pair of Little Grebes feeding two young at Brompton Ponds. A Peregrine at Castle Cliffs where the Kittiwakes have now vacated their ledges, leaving just one Fulmar. Two Ravens were at Langdale End. At Gristhorpe Bay early morning; 193 Oystercatchers, Bar-tailed Godwit, 7 Knot, 2 Ringed Plovers, Whimbrel, Little Egret, 20 Teal. An increase in warblers; 13 Willow Warblers, 9 Chiffchaffs, 6 Whitethroats, Lesser Whitethroat, Sedge and Reed Warblers. Nine Yellow Wagtails and a Merlin.

 A Great White Egret flew in off the sea at Long Nab this morning, left north 40 minutes later. Also Caspian and Yellow-legged Gulls were seen attending the crab boats. A good selection of waders moving past. At Potter Brompton Carr; 7 Black-tailed Godwits, 7 Ruff, 4 Ringed Plovers, 4 Greenshank, 3 Redshank, 5 Green Sandpipers, Great White Egret, Marsh Harrier. A Little Ringed Plover flew south at Cornelian Bay, 6 Bar-tailed Godwits flew north. A Little Egret at Johnson's Marsh.

 Caspian Gull sightings today came from Long Nab, Scalby Mills and a boat off Cornelian Bay. Also south past the boat were 72 Redshank, 14 Dunlin, 8 Sanderling, 7 Ringed Plovers, plus 4 juvenile Mediterranean Gulls feeding offshore. Scalby Mills had 70 Sandwich, 3 Arctic and 15 Common Terns. South past Long Nab today was an adult Roseate Tern, 123 Common Terns, 3 Arctic Terns (2N), 5 Bar-tailed Godwits, 54 Redshank, 2 Whimbrel, Knot, Golden Plover (in off sea), 11 Turnstone. Four Mediterranean Gulls went past (3N, 1S). 208 Common Scoter flew north. At Potter Brompton Carr this evening: 7 Ruff, LR Plover, Ringed Plover, 19 Snipe, 6 Green Sandpipers, 5 Greenshank, 2 Great White Egrets, 8 Little Egrets, 72 Teal, 3 Marsh Harriers, 6 Yellow & 33 Pied Wagtails.

 A Hobby flew north over the Seamer-Crossgates road. A Black-tailed Godwit flew south over Scalby Beck Road. In the Gristhorpe Bay area this morning; a juvenile Roseate Tern, 110 Sandwich Terns, Common Tern, Caspian Gull, Mediterranean gull, 3 Lbb Gulls, 8 Gbb Gulls, 5 Little Egrets, 13 Grey Herons, 2 Cormorants, 54 Oystercatchers, 68 Curlew, 6 Turnstone, 5 Redshank. An increase in warblers in the surrounding area; 10 Willow Warblers, 3 Chiffchaffs, 4 Whitethroats, 2 Blackcaps. 7 Stonechats (incl 5 juveniles from two pairs). A pair of Little Grebes with two young at the Flower of May pond. A Black-tailed Godwit at East Lake, NY Water Park.  A Hobby over fields by East Lake at North Yorkshire Water Park this morning. At Potter Brompton Carr (mostly from Haybridge): 7 Ruff, 4 Green Sandpipers, 3 Greenshank, LR Plover, 76 Lapwing, 2 Snipe,  2 Great White Egrets, 10+ Little Egrets, 3 Marsh Harriers, and Red Kite. An Arctic Tern, 10 Common Terns, juvenile Marsh Harrier north past Long Nab. Two Yellow Wagtails flew south. The drake Eider still at Cromer Point, also 31 Oystercatchers, 20 Sandwich and 2 Common Terns. Two Black-tailed Godwits on the Salt Pans Road pool at Cloughton.

 An increase in gulls moving south past Long Nab this morning; a Little Gull (3cy), 4 Caspian Gulls, 2 Yellow-legged Gulls, 17 Lbb Gulls, and a Mediterranean Gull. 5 Whimbrel flew south. A Black Tern was at Scalby Ness rocks, also there were 120 Sandwich, 5 Arctic and 8 Common Terns. Hobby sightings came from Burniston and Middle Deepdale. At Potter Bromton Carr there were 5 Ruff, 4 Ringed Plover, LRP, Dunlin, 4 Greenshank, 5 Green Sandpipers, 45 Teal, 2 Great White Egrets, 8 Little Egrets, 8 Grey Herons, and a Marsh Harrier. The same Little Gull seen at Long Nab was on the silt lagoon by East Lake (NY Water Park) for 20 minutes this afternoon. Also on East Lake were 3 Pochard, 9 Teal, 16 Tufted Ducks, 2 Ringed Plovers, 2 Greenshank, 19 Lbb Gulls, and a juvenile Marsh Harrier (left south). In the Gristhorpe Bay area early morning; Bar-tailed Godwit, 2 Little Egrets, 8 Grey Herons, a juvenile Caspian Gull, and 55 Common Scoter.

 A Grasshopper Warbler was feeding in grass around the Observatory at Long Nab early morning. Highlights moving south there were 8 Arctic Skuas, a juvenile Caspian Gull, and two juvenile Yellow-legged Gulls. At Potter Brompton Carr (most waders not visible from Haybridge): 3 Ruff, 7 Greenshank, 8 Green Sandpipers, 2 Dunlin, LRP, 30 Snipe, Great White Egret, 10 Little Egrets, 2 juvenile Marsh Harriers, Stonechat. A Hobby flew over Crossgates mid-afternoon. A Marsh Harrier flew south over Ayton playing fields, Garth End Road. At Scalby Mills this evening; juvenile Yellow-legged Gull, juvenile Mediterranean Gull, 4 Lbb Gulls, Knot, 4 Turnstones, 125 Sandwich and 5 Common Terns, and a Kingfisher.

 An Osprey, pale male Honey Buzzard and Hobby from the Wykeham Forest Raptor Viewpoint. A Barn Owl hunting above Cayton Bay plus 30 Goldfnches, 2 Lesser Whitethroats. Good numbers of duck moving past Long Nab this morning; 2 Gadwall, Tufted Duck, 253 Teal, 687 Common Scoters, and 6 Red-breasted Mergansers. Also past were 3 Caspian Gulls, a Yellow-legged Gull, Mediterranean Gull, 27 Whimbrel. A Little Egret and Common Sandpiper on the rocks. A Little Egret at Johnson's Marsh. A German ringed Caspian Gull at Scalby Mills. Ringed as a chick at Grabendorfer See in eastern Germany on 3rd June 2024. 136 Sandwich Terns roosting at Scalby Ness, an Eider, 2 Goldeneye on the sea at Jackson's Bay, plus a Whimbrel south. An early morning visit to Gristhorpe Bay; Whimbrel, 27 Curlew, 44 Oystercatchers, Redshank, Little Egret, 29 Cormorants. Also in the surrounding area was a Short-eared Owl, 5 Grey Partridge, and a Lesser Whitethroat.  An Arctic Skua south past Marine Drive.

 A Honey Buzzard flew south along the cliffs at Long Nab @ 12.20pm. Highlights past there included 2 Eiders, Goldeneye, 3 Common Sandpipers, 21 Arctic terns, 76 Common terns, Mediterranean Gull, Yellow-legged Gull (juv), 9 Arctic Skuas, 48 Manx Shearwaters. Another juvenile Yellow-legged Gull flew north past Cornelian Bay, plus a juvenile Little Gull, and 9 Sanderling. A moulting adult Black Tern was at North Yorkshire Water Park this afternoon, mostly on the Water Sports Lake but also briefly on East Lake. Also there were 22 Teal, 740 Herring and 27 Lbb Gulls, Common Sandpiper, Little Egret, and 3 Yellow Wagtails. A Garganey at Potter Brompton Carr, also 28 Teal, 12 Snipe, 2 Dunlin, 4 Greenshank, 4 Green Sandpipers, Peregrine, Great White Egret, 8 Little Egrets, Marsh Harrier, Yellow Wagtail. One coastal pair of Peregrines fledged two young. Two Whinchats at Gristhorpe Bay.

 A female Honey Buzzard briefly at the Wykeham Forest Raptor Viewpoint this afternoon. 48 Whimbrel south past Long Nab, also 4 Arctic Terns, 2 Knot. Two Garganey at Potter Brompton Carr, Dunlin, 5 Greenshank, Ruff, 2 Green Sandpipers, 2 Oystercatchers, 12 Snipe, 10 Little Egrets, 2 Marsh Harriers, also 2 Yellow Wagtails flew east. Two Willow Tits in Broxa Forest. The Gristhorpe Bay high tide roost had 62 Sandwich Terns, 39 Cormorants, 11 Grey Herons, 4 Little Egrets, 118 Oystercatchers, 11 Curlew, 9 Turnstones, 8 Redshank, 4 Knot, and a Ringed Plover. A Red Kite flew NW over Hackness Hall. 77 Sandwich Terns, 7 Common Terns, 35 Redshank at Scalby Mills this evening.

 An Osprey flew south over South Bay early morning. Also 9 Mediterranean Gulls and 13 Turnstones, 4 Knot there plus a Whinchat at South Cliff. A juvenile Caspian Gull again attending crab boats off Long Nab, 10 Shelducks flew past and a singing Quail was along Rocks Lane 300m west of Cliff Top House. A Sanderling, 3 Dunlin, 3 Turnstones, Little Egret and two juvenile Stonechats at Jackson's Bay. An adult Kittiwake flew NE over Potter Brompton Carr (first for site), present was a Wood Sandpiper, 5 Greenshank, Ruff, 2 Green Sandpipers, 2 Garganey, Water Rail, 2 Marsh Harriers, and 10 Little Egrets. At the Gristhorpe Bay high tide roost this morning; 146 Sandwich Terns, 110 Oystercatchers, 19 Redshank, 7 Turnstone, 5 Curlew, 4 Dunlin, Whimbrel, and a Knot. Also present were 4 Shelducks, and 2 Little Egrets, plus in surrounding fields Short-eared Owl, 2 Yellow Wagtails, pair of Stonechats, and 5 Grey Partridge. A Sanderling and 12 Sandwich Terns at Scalby Mills this evening.

 The pale male Honey Buzzard again from the Wykeham Forest Raptor Viewpoint this afternoon. At North Yorkshire Water Park a Marsh Harrier flew high south, still 12 Sand Martins, 2 Reed Warblers. Two juvenile Caspian Gulls flew south following a crab boat off Long Nab this morning. The drake Eider was still below the Observatory, 6 Shelducks, and a Little Egret flew south, a Whimbrel flew north. At Potter Brompton Carr; 5 Greenshank, 2 Ruff, 5 Snipe, 4 Green Sandpipers, 9 Little Egrets, 3 Shoveler, Reed and Sedge Warbler.

 Two juvenile Caspian Gulls were again off Long Nab following crab boats. Highlights moving past were 212 Swifts, 29 Whimbrel, 19 Redshank, Knot, 7 Sanderling, 11 Dunlins, 229 Sandwich Terns. A Little Egret on rocks there. At Potter Brompton Carr; Wood Sandpiper, 2 Ruff, 4 Greenshank, 7 Snipe, Redshank, 5 Green Sandpipers, 2 Garganey, 3 Marsh Harriers, 8 Little Egrets,  Little Grebe, Yellow Wagtail. A large mixed flock in Broxa Forest had 2 Willow Tits, 5 Spotted Flycatchers (family party). 2+ Spotted Flycatchers Turkey Carpet.

 A Great White Egret flew south over Eastfield. At Potter Brompton Carr (viewable from Haybridge): Wood Sandpiper, Ruff, 3 Greenshank, Merlin (juv), 11 Little Egrets. Elsewhere on the site was a Garganey, 10 Snipe, 2 adnl Greenshank, 8 Gadwall, 5 Shoveler, 7 Teal, 6 Grey Heron, 2 Marsh Harriers.  A Marsh Harrier flew north past Long Nab, 9 Whimbrel and a Golden Plover flew south. at North Yorkshire Water Park; 2 Teal, 3 Gadwall, 60 Mallard, 3 Coot, 9 Lbb Gulls, 3 Gbb Gulls, 75 BH Gulls. Selley Bridge Lake had 3 Moorhen broods (3,4,4), and a Coot brood (3). The female Honey Buzzard was seen briefly from Wykeham Forest Raptor Viewpoint.

 At least two juvenile Caspian Gulls attending crab boats off Long Nab this morning. Moving past were 47 Teal, 404 Common Scoters, Grey Plover, 2 Whimbrel, 9 Arctic, adult Roseate, and 11 Common Terns. No sign of any Honey Buzzards at Wykeham Raptor Viewpoint all day, but 4 Goshawks, 8 Common Buzzards, 5 Ravens, 10 Crossbills and 2 Willow Tits. The Pink-footed Goose still at Peasholm Park. At East Lake (NY Water Park): 16 Teal, 14 Tufted Ducks, 3 Lbb Gulls. A Sedge Warbler at Burton Riggs. 


Juvenile Caspian Gull at Long Nab - Nick Addey

 An adult Cattle Egret was at Potter Brompton Carr mid-afternoon but could not be seen from Haybridge late afternoon/evening. Also there were a Wood Sandpiper, 3 Greenshank, Dunlin, 2 Green Sandpipers, 14 Little Egrets, 9 Teal, 3 Shoveler, 8 Gadwall, 35 Lapwing, a juvenile Merlin, and 2 Marsh Harriers (male + juvenile). A juvenile Green Woodpecker at Thorn Park Farm, Hackness. A Little Egret in Burniston Bay, Red Kite flew south at Long Nab plus 4 Lapwing (2 recently fledged juveniles). 5 Mediterranean Gulls (2 juvs), 17 Oystercatchers at Holbeck. A Willow Tit and 9 Crossbills at Harwood Dale Forest (east of main road). A juvenile Mediterranean Gull flew south at Jackson's Bay. Six Mandarins, 90 Lapwing at Harwood Dale Lake.

Sunday 4th August

 A juvenile Red Kite was seen between Long Nab and Scalby Lodge all morning. Four Mediterranean Gulls (all juveniles) flew north at Long Nab, 6 Arctic Terns past (4S, 2N). A Gbb Gull at Dean Road NYCC yard. 52 Coots (incl 9 pairs with young), two new Tufted Duck broods (2+4) at Seamer Road Mere. Two Willow Tits, 4 Spotted Flycatchers on the edge of Dalby Forest near Noddle Farm.

Saturday 3rd August

 A Wood Warbler in Wykeham Forest this morning. Five Ravens in Troutsdale. One Marsh Harrier still around fields in the Long Nab / Cromer Point area. A Velvet Scoter, 253 Common Scoter, and Arctic Tern flew north at Long Nab. Two Whimbrel (+ 1 N), 91 Swallows flew south. A three hour watch from Dalby Nabgate this morning; Peregrine, Marsh Harrier, 4 Goshawks, 12+ Common Buzzards, Kestrel, 8 Crossbills. Three Mediterranean Gulls in South Bay. The Pink-footed Goose still at Peasholm Park lake. A juvenile Hobby over May Beck car park, also a Spotted Flycatcher there. 40 Common Scoters in North Bay this evening.

 Both male and female Honey Buzzards were seen from the Wykeham Forest Raptor Viewpoint mid to late morning. Two Marsh Harriers were present hunting around the fields at Long Nab this morning, 3 Knot, 108 Swallows, 17 Sand Martins flew south. A Great Crested Grebe, 3 Arctic Terns and 12 Common Terns flew north. At East Lake (NY Water Park); 8 Lapwing, 3 Little Grebes, 8 Teal, 2 Herons, 2 Lbb Gulls. The Green Sandpiper was still present at Johnson's Marsh.

 Highlights past Long Nab included a Balearic Shearwater (south, perhaps yesterday's bird), 62 Whimbrel, 8 Snipe, Greenshank, 38 Sanderling, a juvenile Yellow-legged Gull, 5 Arctic and one Great Skua, 89 Manx Shearwaters. A Green Sandpiper at Johnson's Marsh, one of the juvenile Herons left the nest. Two Common Terns and 43 Sandwich Terns at Scalby Mills. A cc Marsh Harrier west over Burniston. At Potter Brompton Carr; juvenile Merlin, juvenile Marsh Harrier, 8 Green Sandpipers, Greenshank, 11 Little Egrets, 11 Teal. Four Mediterranean Gulls in South Bay. Three Dunlin and a Little Egret on the scrape at Cromer Point. A drake Eider in Burniston Bay. Six Nightjars along Moor Road, Wykeham Forest.
