 A large party of 72 Whooper Swans flew high south over Long Nab. Two Ravens over Troutsdale Brow, also 7 Jays, Brambling, 12 Redwings, 2 Crossbills and 40 Goldfinches. A Great White Egret and a Little Egret at Cayton Carrs. A flock of 41 Collared Doves at Broxa village. A Woodcock flew in of the sea at The Grand Hotel.

Wednesday 30th October

 Three Snow Buntings at Long Nab (2 in the obs field stubble plus one flew north), also 2 Twite, Mediterranean Gull and a Whooper Swan (over Ravenscar too) flew south. Fieldfares at Ravenscar and Langdale forest, the north end of the forest had 18 Crossbills An increase in Blackbirds at Long Nab and in town. Pink-footed Geese are now a daily event, more numerous than Canada and Greylags! 101 Wigeon at Scalby Mills. Four Goosanders flew north at South Cliff. A Goldeneye in South Bay.

Tuesday 29th October

 A Water Pipit was at Long Nab briefly before leaving high north. Moving past there were 3 Whooper Swans, 125 Pink-footed Geese, Fieldfare, Twite, Brambling, and Snow Bunting. A Woodcock was a new arrival at Crook Ness. Thrushes were arriving along the coast this afternoon; 500+ Redwing, several Fieldfares and Bramblings over Gristhorpe village, 25 Redwing over Stepney, 40 Redwing in Cayton Bay, and 120 Redwing, 35 Blackbirds over Cromer Point, also 150 Meadow Pipits there. Two Whooper Swans at the Water Sports Lake, Wykeham Lakes. A Red-throated Diver was in the harbour entrance. A Chiffchaff at Burton Riggs. A female Blackcap in a Burniston garden. A redhead Goosander at Johnson's Marsh.

 A RED-RUMPED SWALLOW flew south in front of Long Nab Bird Observatory following the cliffs at 07.30 hrs, later seen flying south at Cayton Bay at 08.25 hrs. Also at Long Nab a Lapland Bunting was feeding with Skylarks in the stubble field between the car park and the observatory. 12 Whooper Swans, and a Goosander flew south. 92 Wigeon, Dark-bellied Brent Goose, 12 Ringed Plovers at Scalby Mills. Two Goldeneye, 7 Common Scoter, 3 Red-throated Divers in Cayton Bay. 29 Siskin and a Redwing at Hilla Green. 4 Whooper Swans, 18 Wigeon, 8 Teal, 3 Little Grebes Harwood Dale Lake. At Potter Brompton Carr late afternoon; Short-eared Owl, 3 Barn Owls, 6 Marsh Harriers (to roost), Red Kite flew west, 5 Whooper Swans, 68 Wigeon, 3 Little Egrets, and a Great White Egret.

 A first-winter Long-tailed Duck was seen briefly off Marine Drive  before leaving north. Two Great White Egrets flew south at Long Nab, also moving south were 10 Whooper Swans, 190 Pink-footed Geese, 6 Little Gulls (+9 north), 5 Arctic Terns, and 2 Twite. 200 Pink-footed Geese flew south over Burniston. 29 Whooper Swans on the Water Sports Lake at North Yorkshire Water Park. Two Redwings at Burton Riggs. A Marsh Tit on feeders at Heron Lane, Crossgates. Two Velvet Scoter flew south at Cayton Bay @ 16.00 hrs.

 26 Golden Plover between Wykeham and North Moor. 25 Whooper Swans at Nort Yorkshire Water Park, also 2 Stonechats there. 900+ Pink-footed Geese south at Long Nab, also 50 south at Marine Drive, plus a further 50 south over Newlands, and 160 over North Yorkshire Water Park. A Curlew at East Lake. 30 Whooper Swans south over Middle Deepdale. Three Chiffchaffs, 4 Gadwall, a Great White Egret (over SE) at Burton Riggs. Two Water Rail, 16 Gadwall at Seamer tip pools. Six Coal Tits at Heron Lane. At Potter Brompton Carr; Cetti's Warbler, Jack Snipe, 32 Snipe, 55 Whooper Swans flew SW, Goosander flew east, 32 Wigeon, 2 Water Rails, 4 Great White Egrets, 5 Little Egrets, 3 Marsh Harriers, 2 Willow Tits, 4 Stonechats, and 240 Linnets. A Water Rail, 40 Coot, 11 Little Grebes, 20 Gadwall at Seamer Road Mere. Scalby Mills; 52 Wigeon, 21 Oystercatchers, Curlew, 2 Turnstone, 6 Redshank, Sanderling and 2 Dunlin (flew south), Chiffchaff and 4 Bullfinches. A Puffin was off Marine Drive.

 A good selection of wildfowl and waders on the move today. Highlights past Long Nab were a Dark-bellied Brent Goose, 130 Wigeon, 2 Pintail, 3 Goldeneye, Grey Plover, Knot, 53+ Dunlin, 2 Great Northern Divers, 31 Little Gulls, Mediterranean Gull, and a Manx Shearwater. A Brambling was at Crook Ness at dawn. 35 Pink-footed Geese over Crossgates. A Yellow-browed Warbler with the tit flock on the south side of Castle Hill, 30 Redwings arrived in off the sea late afternoon. At North Yorkshire Water Park; 10 Whooper Swans, 8 Mute Swans, 14 Teal, 2 Gadwall, 10 Siskin, plus an unseen (in low cloud) skein of Pinkfeet. A mixed flock of 30 Redwings/Fieldfare at Ox Pasture. 30+ Whooper Swans flew south at Muston. Five Woodcocks in Raincliffe Woods.

Thursday 24th October

 An interesting movement of Golden Plovers along the coast cutting inland; seven flocks totalling 513+ south past Long Nab. Also past were 43 Little Gulls, 2 Sandwich Terns, a 1cy Caspian Gull, Swallow, and Twite flew south. The usual daily movements of Pink-footed Geese were reported. The Wigeon flock had increased to 67 at Scalby Mills, also 5 Teal there. At East Lake, NY Water Park; adult Mediterranean Gull, 332 Herring, 21 Common, 2 Gbb, and 138 Black-headed Gulls. Also 10 Teal, 14 Lapwings.

Wednesday 23rd October

 Two ringtail Hen Harriers arrived from the east at Long Nab this morning, both leaving to the south. Also past were 11 Whooper Swans, 1100 Pink-footed Geese, plus a Twite flew north along the cliffs. A Great White Egret and 8 Whooper Swans at Cayton Carrs near Folkton Water Treatment plant. 180 Pink-footed Geese SW over Burton Riggs, and 104 NE over Allerston. A further 300 later flew over Scalby Nab. Five Fieldfare and 12 Redwing were on fields near to North Yorkshire Water Park entrance and a further 30 Pink-footed Geese flew south there. A Woodcock flew in off the sea at Scalby Mills, where Wigeon had increased to 52, and an increase in Blackbirds was observed. An adult Mediterranean Gull in South Bay.

Tuesday 22nd October

 Three House Martins south over Burniston are very likely the same seen inland from Long Nab. A good movement of Whooper Swans; 71 south past Long Nab, some of which were seen further south along the coast. Pink-footed Geese were again on the move; 300 over Cayton Carrs, 110 south over Burniston, 250 over Scalby Mills and 510 south at Long Nab. Seven Goosanders also flew south at the latter site. A single Goosander was at Seamer Road Mere. 15 Curlews near Flatts Farm, burniston. 100+ Lapwing at Staxton Carr. At Scalby Mills; 40 Wigeon, 3 Ringed Plovers, and 3 Turnstones.

 Four Whooper Swans in a stubble field at Long Nab this afternoon, six flew south (also seen over Cromer Point and Scalby Mills). Also a Sandwich Tern feeding off Long Nab that eventually drifted south, 2 Little Gulls moved south, 900 Pink-footed Geese past, and 3 Twite flew north along the cliffs. Two Red-throated Divers offshore plus 2 in North Bay.

 A day of strong southerlies and rain. Seawatching at Long Nab was slow; 3 Arctic Skuas and 106 Little Gulls past the highlight. At Johnson's Marsh; 36 Teal, 4 Wigeon, 3 Grey Partridge, 15 Redwing. At Scalby Mills; 12 Ringed Plover, Redshank, Curlew, 3 Turnstone, 34 Gbb Gulls, 20 Wigeon, Dipper, Rock Pipit. A WeBS count at Seamer Road Mere: 9 Little Grebes, 22 Gadwall, 48 Mallard, Teal, 20 Tufted Ducks, 97 Moorhens, 51 Coot, Water Rail, 17 Cormorants, 25 Mute Swans, 1cy Mediterranean Gull.

 Yellow-browed Warblers at Long Nab and Burniston. At Thornton Carrs: 110 Pink-footed Geese, 2 Little Egrets, 55 Yellowhammers. South past Long Nab: 2 Whooper Swans, Purple Sandpiper, Arctic Tern, and 114 Little Gulls. A Purple Sandpiper and 20 Turnstone at Black Rocks, South Bay. Single Bramblings at Riggs Head and North Yorkshire Water Park. Also at the latter site: 6 Grey Partridge, 78 Teal, 5 Gadwall, Goosander, 22 Moorhen, 14 Coot, Snipe, 2 Sand Martins,  2 Chiffchaffs, 6 Tree and 15 House Sparrows (stubble by entrance). A Kingfisher on rocks at Marine Drive. Two Velvet Scoters were with common Scoters in Cornelian Bay, also 38 Little Gulls offshore. At Potter Brompton Carr; 4 Great White Egrets, 18 Whooper Swans, 4 Marsh Harriers.

 Two Chiffchaffs and 2 Goldcrests were in Sycarham Wood. 50 Gadwall, 4 Wigeon at Seamer tip pool. 15 House Martins flew south over Burniston this afternoon. Highlights past Long Nab included a Great White Egret high north, 1635 Pink-footed Geese (675S, 960N), 7 Whooper Swans, 119 Skylarks, House Martin, 188 Meadow Pipits, 44 Tree Sparrows. 70 Pink-footed Geese SE over Crossgates. A Snow Bunting flew south over South Cliff.

 New Yellow-browed Warblers were at Long Nab and Scalby Mills. A Barnacle Goose was in a field at Cloughton Wyke, later seen flying south at Long Nab. Also south at Long Nab were 267 Skylarks, 2 Swallows, and 9 Brambling. Two Fieldfares flew west. A Green Sandpiper, 2 Wigeon, and 10 Teal at East Lake (NY Water Park). Three Snipe in stubble at Charm Park. 32 Tree Sparrows flew south at South cliff. A Water Rail in Wykeham Forest near the old nurseries.

Wednesday 16th October

 An arrival of continental thrushes throughout the area today. Generally small numbers involved, 100+ Redwings over Wrench Green, and 110 at Long Nab, and 170 over North Yorkshire Water Park the largest numbers reported. Also at Long Nab were 35 Blackbirds, 40 Song Thrushes, two Ring Ouzels, and a Fieldfare. Highlights moving past were 11 Dark-bellied Brent Geese, 2 Pintail, 6 Red-breasted Mergansers, 3 Little Gulls, a Mediterranean Gull, and 590+ Starlings south. A Raven flew north, perhaps the same bird at Rodger Trod later. A Chiffchaff and a Blackcap in the plantations. A Shoveler, 25 Teal at East Lake, NY Water Park. A Litte Grebe on a field flash at Hood Lane, Cloughton. 20 Meadow Pipits Hood Lane - Rodger Trod. A Little Egret, 10 Grey Herons and a Little Grebe at Ellerburn. A Corn Bunting and a Brambling at Nabgate, Dalby Forest. A redhead Goosander at Johnson's Marsh.

Tuesday 15th October

 Highlights from this morning's seawatch at Long Nab included a good selection of wildfowl, of most interest were 3 Pintail, 6 Eiders, 5 Tufted Duck, and a Red-breasted Merganser. Four Arctic Skuas, and two Long-tailed Skuas, one of which joined a small Common Gull flock offshore for 20 minutes to dip-feed. Also past were 10 Little Gulls and 2 Arctic Terns. A small increase in thrushes there including 16 Redwing, plus a Brambling. A little inland Redwings were observed moving west, incl 60 over Burniston. A Stonechat at Thornton Carrs. 35 Wigeon at Scalby Mills. A Jay flew north over Crossgates.

The Yellow-browed Warbler was again in a Burniston garden. Good numbers of Pink-footed Geese were on the move today; 603+ past Long Nab (173S, 430N), 160 south at Cayton Bay, 30 west over Crossgates. The Great White Egret was in Burniston Bay this morning, moving to Johnson's Marsh at noon before returning towards the coast. Also south past Long Nab were 6 Whooper Swans, 7 Arctic & 2 Common Terns. A Hooded Crow was seen at Gristhorpe village, also 10 Redwing there. 23 Wigeon were at Scalby Mills. A Raven flew SW over Crossgates, 3 Common Buzzards over burton Riggs.  A Redwing at Peasholm Glen. Three Chiffchaffs at Sycarham Wood.

 A Yellow-browed Warbler was in a Burniston garden this morning. A Goosander at Scalby Mills, where the male Snow Bunting is still present on the sea wall opposite the Sea Life Centre. The moulting adult Red-throated Diver still in the harbour. A late House Martin at Wrench Green. A Jay flew over Long Lane, Crossgates, a noticeable increase in Blackbirds around Burton Riggs. 50 Pink-footed Geese and two Whooper Swans flew south over Cayton Bay. Highlights past Long Nab included 35 Pink-footed Geese, 7 Arctic Skuas, 4 Arctic Terns, and a Great White Egret south at 10;10am. Five Whooper Swans south over North Cliff golf course. At Potter Brompton Carr; 38 Whooper & 16 Mute Swans, 3 Great White Egrets, 2 Little Egrets, 3 Marsh Harriers, Gadwall, 19 Snipe, 2 Redwing, and a Stonechat.

 Highlights past Long Nab this morning included a Black-throated Diver flying north, 160 Pink-footed Geese, Red-breasted Merganser, Goosander, Pale-bellied Brent Goose, 3 Little Egrets, 9 Little Gulls, Mediterranean Gull, 3 Arctic Terns, 6 Arctic Skuas. A herd of c40 Whooper Swans were at Willerby Carr, a further two flew south over North Yorkshire Water Park. A Marsh Harrier, Mediterranean Gull, and a Little Egret at Cayton Carrs. A male Brambling at Cayton Bay. The Red-throated Diver still in the harbour, four feeding off Long Nab. The Snow Bunting was still by the Sea Life Centre. A Hobby arrived off the sea at Holbeck and continued south.

 A Yellow-browed Warbler was found at Sycarham Wood, Cloughton Wyke, also 2 Chiffchaffs, 3 Goldcrests, 3 Jays, 2 Stonechats there. At East Lake, NY Water Park: Little Egret, Lapwing, 23 Wigeon, 96 Mallard, 13 Tufted Duck, Great Crested Grebe. The Snow Bunting was still at Scalby Mills. Highlights past Long Nab today included a Grey Phalarope north @ 11:38, 54 Whooper Swans south (incl a flock also seen over town), Arctic Tern, 131 Little Gulls, 402 Kittiwakes, Sandwich Tern, 6 Arctic and a Pomarine Skua.

 The cool northerlies continued but the sea didn't quite deliver the expected birds. Highlights past Long Nab included a Great Northern Diver, 6 Velvet Scoters (both also past Marine Drive), 3 Red-breasted Mergansers, 4 Arctic Terns, 9 Arctic Skuas, 6 Little Gulls, and 9 Mediterranean Gulls. A Sandwich Tern was seen past Marine Drive. The Snow Bunting was still at Scalby Mills. A Red-throated Diver in the harbour. A Swallow flew south at Burniston. 56 Gadwall at Seamer tip pool. 80 Linnets at Taylor Way. Chiffchaff, 2 Redwings at Burton Riggs.

Wednesday 9th October

 A stiff cool northerly affected a few seabirds today. A first-winter Common Tern was at the harbour. A seawatch at Long Nab saw a small skua movement with one juvenile Long-tailed Skua, 6 Arctic Skuas, and a sub-adult Pomarine Skua all moving south. Also south were a Mediterranean Gull, 72 Red-throated Divers and a Pale-bellied Brent Goose. 320 Feral Pigeon at Cromer Point. Seven Redwing flew SW over Burniston. At East Lake, NY Water Park; Greenshank, 3 female/immature Common Scoters, 2 Gadwall, 2 Teal. The male Snow Bunting was still around the sea wall opposite the Sea Life Centre. 15 Mistle Thrushes at Wrench Green. 430 Pink-footed Geese, 2 Great White Egrets, 2 Little Egrets, 3 Marsh Harriers, Stonechat, and Rock Pipit at Potter Brompton Carr.

 The Snow Bunting was still at Scalby Mills around the sea wall, two Sandwich Terns were also still there. A Chiffchaff was singing at Burton Riggs, 60+ Carrion Crows in an adjacent plantation. Four Redwings were new arrivals at Long Nab. South past there were 4 Barnacle Geese, 2 Mediterranean Gulls, an Arctic Terns, and 3 Arctic Skuas. A Red Kite on road kill at Wykeham.

Monday 7th October

The Pallas's Warbler was still at Long Nab (5th day), in an area with no general access. Also there a late Spotted Flycatcher. Eleven Whooper Swans, 100 Pink-footed Geese (65 north), and a Jay flew south. At Potter Brompton Carr; Little Egret, Marsh Harrier, and a Jay. 48 Gadwall at Seamer Tip pools. A Pink-footed Goose, 211 Canada Geese, 177 Greylag Geese at Burton Riggs. Ten Teal in Cloughton Wyke. The Snow Bunting was again on the sea wall at Scalby Mills, also 2 Sandwich Terns on the rocks.

 Bird of the day was a Hoopoe seen flying south at Cayton Bay, following the cliffs at 10:31am. The Pallas's Warbler,  and one Yellow-browed Warbler still at Long Nab. Highlights past included 4 Pintail, Pochard, 3 Great White Egrets, Little Egret, Merlin, 6 Knot, 7 Sandwich Terns, 11 Little Gulls, and a Sooty Shearwater. 350 Pink-footed Geese flew south over Gristhorpe, 5 over Peasholm, 65 over Allerston, and 508 past Long Nab. Two Lbb Gulls were at East Lake, North Yorkshire Water Park. Two Great White Egrets flew east over Hopper Hill Road. Chiffchaff, and Redwing over Seamer tip. A Snow Bunting was seen on the sea wall at Scalby Mills at 09.20am.

 The Pallas's Warbler and 2 Yellow-browed Warblers were in the plantations at Long Nab. Two Lapland Buntings flew south, and a Marsh Harrier north. Lots of Pink-footed Geese on the move again; 352 past Long Nab (moving north and south), 70 south over Gristhorpe, 1050 (14 skeins, most south) past Gristhorpe Bay, and 35 NE over Seamer tip. Five Goldcrests in a Burniston garden. A new Yellow-browed Warbler in South Bay near The Spa. A Wheatear on the rockfall at Marine Drive. A Kingfisher at the coarse Lake, NY Water Park.

Friday 4th October

 Highlight of the day was at Little Bunting at Long Nab, seen briefly on the cliff top south of the observatory, and quickly left south along the cliffs, after giving several calls. The Pallas's Leaf Warbler, and two Yellow-browed Warblers were still present. A Redwing appeared in the plantations then left west. A good movement of Pink-footed Geese reported, all seen from Long Nab, 555 south, 235 north. A Ruff flew south. Elsewhere a Raven was over Cloughton Wyke, and a Wheatear at Marine Drive.

 A Pallas's Leaf Warbler was at Long Nab, also there were two Yellow-browed Warblers, 4 Blackcaps, Reed Warbler, Wheatear, 55 Robins, 12 Goldcrests, Brambling, and a Lapland Bunting flew in off the sea and carried on west. A Dark-bellied Brent Goose, Goosander, Red-breasted Merganser, Raven and Merlin flew north. 55 Pink-footed Geese flew south. Four Blackcaps on the north side of Castle Hill. At Potter Brompton Carr: 3 Marsh Harriers, 2 Great White Egrets, 2 Little Egrets. 17 Coot on the Water Sports Lake, NY Water Park. Blackcap, Chiffchaff, 20 Robins Newlands Dale. 4 Little Grebes, 2 Gadwall, 45 Tufted Ducks Seamer Road Mere. A Wheatear at Marine Drive. Chiffchaffs at Burton Riggs and Heron Lane. At Sycarham Wood: 3 Chiffchaffs, 3 Goldcrests, Wheatear.

 Two Yellow-browed Warblers, and a Ring Ouzel at Long Nab, plus an influx of c15 Goldcrests there this afternoon. Highlights moving past were 11 Dark-bellied Brent Geese, 4 Eiders, 5 Velvet Scoters, 9 Little Gulls, 11 Arctic Skuas, 1 Sooty Shearwater. The first Redwings, 10+ were over Wrench Green late afternoon. 8 Goldcrests on the south side of Castle Hill. A Puffin was sadly found dead on the road in South Bay.

 Another wet and windy day. Strong northerlies saw some interesting seabird movements past Long Nab; highlights moving north was Red-necked Grebe, Pintail, Velvet Scoter (+ 1 south), 7 Barnacle Geese (+12 south), 2 Dark-bellied brent Geese,  Balearic Shearwater, 51 Sooty Shearwaters, 10 Little Gulls, and a Great Skua. Two House Martins were at Low Dalby.
