Saturday 19th January

The Great Northern Diver and 2 Great White Egrets were again present at Wykeham South Lake, plus 2 Redshank, a drake Pintail, 9 Goldeneye, 5 Teal, a Shelduck and a Barn Owl. 3 Whooper Swans were seen circling the area, and there were 200+ Lapwing and 200 - 300 Golden Plover beside Garth End Road Road leading down to the lake. There were 10 Gadwall on the fishing lake and 35 Brambling along Long Causeway Road west of the lakes. A Great Northern Diver remains in the harbour, and another flew into Cornelian Bay, where there was also a Common Scoter and 5 Red-throated Divers. 16 Purple Sandpipers were seen on East Pier, and a Whimbrel was again near Long Nab. 8 Teal, 9 Herons and  a Wigeon were on Johnson's Marsh, and about 50 Siskins were in trees beside the Derwent in East Ayton. 4 Mandarins were on Hackness Lake, 2 Green Sandpipers were on Thornton Carrs, and 2 Little Egrets, a Kingfisher and a Grey Wagtail were on Thornton Beck. At Jackson's Bay and Scalby Mills there were 87 Redshank, 61 Oystercatchers, 17 Turnstones, 2 Purple Sandpipers, 162 Wigeon and 7 Red-throated Divers.
