Wednesday 23rd January

Must have been too nippy for everyone this morning - no news in till after noon! 6 Golden Plover were in the observatory field at Long Nab, where 2 Goosanders were seen flying north and 2 Common Scoters flying south. In Wykeham Forest a Goshawk, a Peregrine and 2 Buzzards were seen from the raptor viewpoint, and a Goshawk and 15 Crossbills just east of Highwood Brow. There was a Short-eared Owl seen over the fields to the south of Wykeham South Lake, while on the lake there was a Great Egret, a Goosander, 6 Goldeneye, a second calendar year Mediterranean Gull, 600 Black-headed Gulls, 3000+ Common Gulls, 650 Herring Gulls and 90 Great Black-backed Gulls.
