Wednesday 2nd December

The Long-tailed Duck returned to the harbour for much of the day, while a Great Northern Diver was feasting on flatfish just off the outer pier. The Common Tern was also still present, fishing in Cornelian Bay, but there was no sign today of the Mealy Redpoll in Holbeck Ravine. A male Blackcap was spotted in a mahonia bush on Heron Lane, and a Red Kite was seen at Wrea Head. A Teal, 5 Goldeneye, a pair of Goosanders, 2 Water Rails, a Coot, 3 Little Grebes, a first winter Mediterranean Gull and a Chiffchaff were at Seamer Road Mere, and a Goldeneye was in South Bay. Highlights from Long Nab include a Goshawk flushed from the ringing plantation with a rat, 5 Lapland Buntings in the stubble, and a Chiffchaff on Rocks Lane, while a Mealy Redpoll and 2 Great Northern Divers flew north.
