Sunday 7th June

Sightings from Long Nab today included a total of 409 Manx Shearwaters, 299 Fulmars, an Eider, a Red-throated Diver, 5 Common Terns and 191 Puffins. 47 Manx Shearwaters, 15 Puffins and 12 Sandwich Terns were also seen from Marine Drive in the early afternoon. A (lost?) Fulmar was spotted flying west over Hovingham Drive. A pair of Coots at Johnson's Marsh had 4 chicks, and at Harwood Dale Lake there was an Oystercatcher, a female Mandarin and a Shelduck. 40 to 50 Swifts were seen over gardens between Garfield Road and Dean Road cemetery, and 100+ Swifts were feeding low over the grass verges between Ayton and Snainton. Further along the road, beyond Snainton there were large numbers of Swallows feeding over the verges, and then beyond Allerston it became House Martins that were feeding in abundance.
