A Great Crested Grebe in full summer plumage was in the harbour early this morning. At Hilla Green there were 12 Redwings, a Dipper, a pair of Grey Wagtails, a pair of Mandarin Ducks and a Mistle Thrush, while in Wrench Green there was a singing Blackcap. Up to 30 Sand Martins were seen at Wykeham South Lake, plus 2 Swallows, 6 Great Crested Grebes, 5 Goldeneye, 1 Shelduck, 2 Buzzards and a hunting Barn Owl. At Seamer Tip pool there was a Water Rail, and at Burton Riggs there was a Blackcap and a Kingfisher. A male Northern Wheatear was at Long Nab and 2 Chiffchaffs were at Crook Ness. I love this month with all the new arrivals!
