Sunday 28th April

The Turtle Dove was still in a garden in Pickering this morning. A Hooded Crow flew low over Seamer Tip towards Eastfield, and Greenland Wheatears were in fields east and south of the tip. At Wykeham South Lake there were 3 Egyptian Geese, 2 Little Ringed Plovers and a Dunlin, but no sign of the Long-tailed Duck. This afternoon 5 Bar-tailed Godwits (one in summer plummage) were in Jackson's Bay, and a female Redstart was in the north-south hedge inland from the cliffs there. A pair of Teal, 2 Shelduck and a Snipe were on Cromer Point Pond, and 2 Whimbrel were flushed from the Scalby Lodge Pond by a dog walker. 2 Purple Sandpipers were roosting on the harbour at high tide. In the early evening 2 Common Sandpipers flew into Jackson's Bay, while at Scalby Mills there were 3 Turnstones, 4 first summer Black-headed Gulls, 5 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 7 Great Black-backed Gulls and 480 Herring Gulls. 2 Ring Ouzels, a Wheatear, a Redstart, a Peregrine, 6 Tree Pipits, a Stonechat and a Cuckoo were spotted in the Newgate Brow area.
