Wednesday 13th November

A Merlin was hunting Reed Buntings in the cover crop near Long Nab this morning. A Blackcap was seen on Heron Lane, a Great White Egret was still at Seamer Tip Pool, and 5 Little Egrets were at Folkton Bridge. 120 Pink-footed Geese flew south over Crossgates mid-morning and another 50 in the early afternoon, while 126 were seen flying south past Long Nab. An adult Pomarine Skua in moult went north past Long Nab, where 3 Snow Buntings were still north of the observatory plus another in the fields south-west of Crook Ness. 3 Bramblings were seen feeding on beech mast near Low Dalby where there were also good numbers of Crossbills. At Seamer Road Mere there were 26 Tufted Duck, 52 Mute Swans, 4 Little Grebes and a Water Rail. A Great Northern Diver was in the harbour this afternoon.
