Wednesday 6th November

Both the Hume's Leaf and Pallas's Warblers were seen again today on the south side of Castle Hill first thing in the morning, though for the rest of the day they remained elusive with just brief sightings and occasional calls. Also seen at Castle Hill were 31 Siskins heading south, 2 Chiffchaffs, a Blackcap and a Goldcrest, while 2 Bramblings and a Treecreeper were at Paradise. At Wykeham South Lake there were 8 Great Crested Grebes and 2 Goldeneye, and 45 Pink-footed Geese flew over. 3 Shoveler and 5 Teal were at Seamer Tip Pool, a Chiffchaff was at Burton Riggs, and 32 Cormorants were off Marine Drive. At Crook Ness a single Twite was spotted among 80+ Linnets in the early afternoon, while later on 2 Twite were seen there and a Snow Bunting was in the third field north of Long Nab. 15 Whooper Swans were seen flying south over Long Nab and then out across the sea towards Filey. A Waxwing flew south over Crossgates. A Great White Egret was seen from a train between Scarborough and Malton, probably in the Willerby-Sherburn section. A short sewatch from Marine Drive saw a Great Northern Diver fly north (then presumed same south later), two Teal and 25 Common Scoter north. Two Chiffchaffs at Ravenscar (incl Bent Rigg Lane) plus three at Hood Lane, Cloughton.
