Thursday 11th February

A flock of 50+ Siskins were feeding in alders and conifers at the top of Cornelian Ravine this morning, and 15 Curlew were feeding in the bay, where the remains of 4 Woodcock were found along the strand line. 150+ Pink-footed Geese flew south-east over Cayton Bay. At Long Nab there was a further increase in birds, including 700 Redwing, 330 Fieldfare, 60 Skylarks, a Lapland Bunting, 19 Snipe and a Jack Snipe, plus a Water Pipit feeding in the field north of the observatory near the 'scrape'. A single Whooper Swan and a Twite flew over south. A Grey Plover, 18 Ringed Plover, a Dunlin and a Brent Goose were seen in Jackson's Bay. The Grey Plover then flew north to Cromer Point where 44 Curlew and a pair of Stonechats were seen. A second pair of Stonechats were at Scalby Lodge, and in the Scalby Lodge pond area there were at least 50 Fieldfare, 2 Yellowhammer, 2 Reed Bunting and a few Skylark. At least 100 Golden Plover were around Crook Ness and Long Nab, where 4 Red-throated Divers were on the sea. A pair of Bullfinch were at the Open Air Theatre, and a flock of about 80 Goldfinch were seen gathering in tree tops on Sandybed Lane. 10 Wigeon were at Johnson's Marsh, and a Barn owl and a Kestrel were seen in the next field. Opposite The Barn there was a Curlew and 135 Redwing. Along the River Hertford (Folkton Water Treatment to Flixton Car bridge): 30 Teal, Woodcock, 4 Snipe, 22 Golden Plover, 150 Lapwing, Barn Owl, 6 Stonechats (3 pair).
