Passage produced much of the days interest including another Balearic Shearwater and the autumns first Snow Bunting. On the move (south unless stated) were 3 Red-throated Diver + 6 north, 2 Cormorant, 2 Shag, 2639 Gannet, 3 Fulmar + 2 north, 1 Balearic Shearwater at 09.23hrs, 1 Grey Heron, 1 Dark-bellied Brent Goose north, 31 Wigeon + 11 north, 2 Common Scoter + 6 north, 6 Dunlin, 1 Arctic Skua north, 1 Great Skua north, 49 Black-headed Gull, 19 Common Gull + 4 north, 1 Kittiwake + 147 north, 2 Sandwich Tern, 1 Common Tern north, 4 Arctic Tern, 13 Auk sp + 10 north, 37 Meadow Pipit, 4 Rock Pipit, 1 alba, 2 Carrion Crow, 28 Goldfinch, 1 Siskin, 1 Snow Bunting and 1 Reed Bunting.
With poor coverage and clear weather migrants were much less evident than in recent days, the 'eastern' type Lesser Whitethroat was still in Crook Ness, also seen between Ravenscar and the Castle were 15 Meadow Pipit, 4 Rock Pipit, 16 Robin, 8 Song Thrush, 1 Yellow-browed Warbler still at Cliff Top House, 1 Willow Warbler and 2 Chiffchaff.
Four Pink-footed Geese were at Burton Riggs and a Redstart was seen at Crossgates.

Migrant numbers had decreased again but Yellow-browed Warbles just keep coming!
Between Long Nab and South Cliff were 40 Meadow Pipit, 63 Robin, 6 Song Thrush, 1 Redwing, 1 Whitethroat, 1 'eastern' Lesser Whitethroat in Crook Ness, 7 Yellow-browed Warbler including four new birds (Cliff Top House 1, Valley Road 1, Knipe Point 2), 13 Chiffchaff and 4 Reed Bunting.
On the move (south unless stated) were 11 Red-throated Diver + 2 north, 3 Fulmar + 1 north, 3 Cormorant, 447 Gannet, 18 Teal, 4 Common Scoter, + 11 north, 1 Sparrowhawk, 2 Kestrel, 1 Merlin, 1 Snipe, 1 Ringed Plover, 1 Golden Plover, 2 Bar-tailed Godwit north, 1 Curlew north, 1 Arctic Skua north, 69 Black-headed Gull + 28 north, 128 Common Gull north, 6 Kittiwake north, 4 Sandwich Tern, 14 Auk sp + 2 north, 44 Skylark, 21 Meadow Pipit, 5 Rock Pipit, 3 Grey Wagtail, 3 alba, 1 Swallow, 4 Rook, 2 Carrion Crow, 13 Chaffinch, 30 Linnet, 2 Goldfinch, 4 Siskin and 2 Reed Bunting.
In Jackson's Bay there were 51 Dunlin and 5 Bar-tailed Godwit and 55 Tree Sparrow were near Scalby Lodge Pond.

Migrants were less evident today with an obvious clear out overnight, however small numbers were arriving throughout the day and the record breaking year for Yellow-browed Warblers of course continued!
Between Ravenscar and South Cliff were 12 Skylark, 43 Meadow Pipit, 1 Rock Pipit, 2 Wheatear, 2 Redstart (Long Nab), 10 Robin, 6 Song Thrush, 1 Redwing, 1 Blackcap, 9 Yellow-browed Warbler 7 of which were new (4 Ravenscar, 2 new at Long Nab, 2 Castle Hill, 1 Holbeck), 17 Chiffchaff, 1 Goldcrest, 5 Siskin and 1 Reed Bunting.
Passage was slow but on the move (south unless stated) were 7 Red-throated Diver + 1 north, 2 Fulmar north, 4 Pink-footed Geese north, 1 Common Scoter north, 1 Sandwich Tern, 1 Grey Wagtail, 1 Rock Pipit, 108 Meadow Pipit, 2 Swallow, 7 Goldfinch and 16 Siskin.
Ten Mediterranean Gull were off Holbeck during the evening.

It was a brilliant day for Yellow-browed Warblers with a minimum of 16 found within the area, bringing this years total to 18 and beating the highest ever total of 14 for the whole of 2005 with 3 being the highest ever day count in the past! Birds were seen near Ravenscar (4), Sycaram Wood (1), Long Nab area (5, including 1 in off the sea), Castle Hill (3), Spa Gardens (1), Italian Gardens (1) and Holbeck (1).
Migrants seen between Ravenscar and South Cliff were 6 Snipe, 9 Skylark, 56 Meadow Pipit, 4 Wheatear, 1 Redstart (Long Nab), 44 Robin, 46 Song Thrush, 2 Redwing, 10 Blackbird, 3 Blackcap, 2 Lesser Whitethroat, 1 Whitethroat, 1 Willow Warbler, 32 Chiffchaff, 7 Goldcrest, 5 Siskin, 1 Reed Bunting and 2 Lapland Bunting (in off the sea at Long Nab).
On the move (south unless stated) were 16 Red-throated Diver, 8 Fulmar north, 3 Manx Shearwater north, 2 Sooty Shearwater north, were 26 Pink-footed Geese, 52 Teal north, 34 Wigeon north, 2 Common Scoter + 4 north, 2 Golden Plover, 6 Ringed Plover, 1 Dunlin, 2 Great Skua north, 319 Kittiwake north, 2 Sandwich Tern, 42 Skylark, 35 Meadow Pipit, 1 Rock Pipit, 1 flava, 8 Swallow and 2 Reed Bunting.
Elsewhere 22 Ringed Plover, 41 Duniln and 2 Bar-tailed Godwit were in Jackson's Bay, 5 Mediterranean Gulls were at Holbeck, a Dipper was seen along Scalby Beck, a Barnacle Goose was on Peasholme Park and 2 Arctic Skua were blogging offshore.

Three Yellow-browed Warblers were seen in the area today, yesterday's bird in the Italian Gardens was still present with new ones found at Long Nab and on Castle Hill.
Other migrants between Newlands Dale and South Cliff were 5 Snipe, 1 Barn Owl (Castle Hill), 44 Meadow Pipit, 2 Grey Wagtail, 3 Redwing, 21 Song Thrush, 1 Whinchat, 1 Blackcap, 21 Chiffchaff, 2 Goldcrest, 2 Brambling, 22 Siskin and 1 Lapland Bunting (Long Nab).
On the move (south unless stated) were 8 Fulmar north, 1 Mallard north, 12 Teal north, 26 Wigeon north, 7 Pintail north, 6 Lapwing, 1 Grey Plover, 3 Golden Plover, 2 Ringed Plover, 1 Snipe, 1 Arctic Skua, 1 Snipe, 68 Meadow Pipit, 3 Rock Pipit, 2 alba, 6 Swallow, 1 Chaffinch, 6 Linnet, 18 Goldfinch, 20 Siskin and 1 Lapland Bunting.
A Snipe and 7 Grey Partridge were on Flixton Carr and 11 Teal, 46 Curlew and 14 Pied Wagtail were on Flotmanby Carr.

The highlight of the day was the arrival of a Yellow-browed Warbler in the Italian Gardens. Other migrants seen between Long Nab and Cornelian Bay were 1 Tree Pipit, 2 Yellow Wagtail, 19 Robin, 4 Song Thrush, 5 Blackcap, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 19 Chiffchaff and 6 Reed Bunting.
Passage was rather slow in the misty conditions but small numbers of waders provided some interest, on the move (south unless stated) were 11 Shelduck, 60 Common Scoter + 14 north, 6 Golden Plover, 2 Ringed Plover, 73 Dunlin, 1 Greenshank, 3 Snipe, 1 Jack Snipe, 1 Ruff, 2 Arctic Skua, 4 Little Gull north, 5 Common Tern, 10 Sandwich Tern north, 33 Meadow Pipit, 1 flava, 2 Starling, 1 Goldfinch and 5 Linnet.
Four Grey Plover were off Holbeck, at Scalby Mills there were 4 Ringed Plover and 4 Curlew and on Johnson's Marsh there were 5 Wigeon, 6 Teal and 23 Moorhen.

Passage totals (south unless stated) were 11 Red-throated Diver + 5 north, 4 Fulmar + 3 north, 1400 Gannet + 30 north, 20 Cormorant, 329 Pink-footed Geese, 8 Teal + 4 north, 2 Eider, 16 Common Scoter north, 1 Marsh Harrier, 3 Common Buzzard, 1 Ringed Plover, 1 Arctic Skua north, 1 Little Gull north, 22 Black-headed Gull + 63 north, 5 Common Gull north, 3 Kittiwake north, 12 Sandwich Tern + 2 north, 3 Auk sp + 1 north, 15 Wood Pigeon, 4 Skylark, 81 Meadow Pipit, 1 Rock Pipit, 2 alba, 1 Jackdaw, 14 Carrion Crow, 2 Chaffinch, 2 Greenfinch, 41 Goldfinch, 152 Linnet and 1 Reed Bunting.
Migrants were less evident, between Long Nab and South Cliff were 1 Wheatear, 8 Chiffchaff and 1 Goldcrest.
A Knot and 5 Mediterranean Gulls were off Holbeck and 35 Turnstone were in the Harbour.

It was a much better morning for passage, totals (south unless stated) 2 Red-throated Diver north, 2 Fulmar north, 1 Cormorant + 6 north, 1 Shag north, 8 Wigeon, 13 Teal north, 2 Pintail north, 3 Common Scoter north, 2 Kestrel, 1 Snipe, 1 Arctic Skua, 13 Black-headed Gull + 80 north, 2 Common Gull north, 5 Sandwich Tern + 1 north, were 24 Wood Pigeon, 1 Stock Dove, 289 Meadow Pipit, 6 Rock Pipit, 3 Grey Wagtail, 2 flava, 5 alba, 757 House Martin, 115 Swallow, 6 Sand Martin, 2 Jackdaw, 7 Carrion Crow, 9 Starling, 7 Tree Sparrow, 43 Goldfinch, 6 Siskin, 2 Greenfinch and 187 Linnet.
Migrants seen between Ravenscar and South Cliff included 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker (Italian Gardens), 3 Grey Wagtail (Holbeck), 27 Robin (Long Nab), 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 46 Chiffchaff, 4 Goldcrest and 2 Blue Tit in off at Long Nab!
Sixteen Curlew were roosting on South Cliff, an adult Yellow-legged Gull and 140+ Lesser Black-backed Gull were at Wykeham South Lake along with a Barnacle Goose, 164 Canada Geese, 2 Pochard, 19 Tufted Duck, 40 Pied Wagtail, 1 Yellow Wagtail and 100 Swallow. Just south of Boggle Hole were 4 Ringed Plover, 1 Dunlin, 52 Turnstone and 730 Great Black-backed Gulls.

A very quiet day with little observer coverage.
On the move (south unless stated) were 43 Pink-footed Geese, 6 Curlew north, 2 Meadow Pipit, 1 Grey Wagtail and 4 House Martin.
Migrants seen between Long Nab and Scalby Lodge were singles of Blackcap and Lesser Whitethroat and 5 Chiffchaff, 48 Teal and 4 Rock Pipit were on the rocks at Long Nab and 9 Wigeon were on Johnson's Marsh.
Up to 30 Mistle Thrush were in Wykeham Forest.

Scarborough Birders Pelagic

The second Scarborough Birders Pelagic will be running (weather dependant) on Sunday 6th October. We will be meeting the Harbour at 6.45am for a 7.00am start, and the trip will last about 4 hours.

There are 6 places left which will be allocated on a first come first serve basis, if you wish to book a place please contact Nick Addey on 07986889277, Price is dependant on numbers but will likely be £15.00.

The August trip produced some nice birds including Sooty and Manx Shearwaters and Arctic and Great Skuas.

Polish Mediterranean Gull

The details of the Polish rung Mediterranean Gull 'PNN5' seen at Holbeck on 19th August have now been received.

It was ringed as an adult Male on 17th May 2013 at its nesting site at Lake Zbiorkik Przykonik close to the village of Radyczyny which is close to the town of Turek.
The bird has travelled 1239 kilometres to Holbeck!

Moving during the day (south unless stated) were 2 Red-throated Diver, 18 Fulmar north, 2 Cormorant + 1 north, 23 Pink-footed Geese, 10 Teal north, 32 Common Scoter north, 15 Black-headed Gull north, 6 Kittiwake north, 2 Sandwich Tern, 8 Auk sp, 11 Wood Pigeon, 11 Meadow Pipit, 2 Rock Pipit, 2 alba, 298 House Martin, 362 Swallow and 3 Siskin.
In the Long Nab area were 25 Meadow Pipit, 2 Whitethroat, 1 Blackcap, 5 Chiffchaff, 1 Wood Warbler, 2 Goldcrest, 120+ Linnet and 2 Reed Bunting.
Johnson's Marsh held 14 Wigeon and 3 Teal and a Common Sandpiper was Wykeham South Lake.
The mixed Corvid roost at Osgodby numbered 1237.

The first few hours produced some passage before the forecast rain arrived and put an end at all movement.
On the move (south unless stated) were 4 Red-throated Diver + 4 north, 16 Fulmar north, 5 Cormorant, 64 Teal north, 3 Wigeon, 28 Common Scoter north, 1 Arctic Skua north, 3 Common Tern north, 1 Hobby, 184 Meadow Pipit, 1 Grey Wagtail, 523 House Martin, 14 Swallow, 3 Goldfinch and 2 Linnet.
Migrants between Long Nab and the Castle were 5 Wheatear (4 Castle, 1 Long Nab), 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 5 Chiffchaff and 1 Willow Warbler, 4 Little Gulls were blogging offshore at Long Nab.
On Johnson's Marsh there were 14 Wigeon and 5 Teal, 346 Greylag Geese, 13 Tufted Duck and 2 Pochard were on Wykeham South Lake and a Leucistic Swallow was in Cayton Bay.

The highlight of the day were the autumns first Pink-footed Geese heading south, 169 all together. Also on the move (south unless stated) were 3 Red-throated Diver north, 1 Fulmar + 24 north, 4 Cormorant, 1 Shag north, 3 Teal north, 1 Golden Plover, 21 Kittiwake north, 1 Razorbill, 2 Guillemot north, 1 alba, 4 Rock Pipit, 6 Meadow Pipit, 1 Chaffinch and 11 Linnet.
Nine Grey Heron were on Johnson's Marsh and one was at Scalby Mills along with 10 Teal, 5 Teal were on Flotmanby and a Ringed Plover was at Wykeham South Lake.

Passage was again slower today and what migrants were about yesterday appear to have moved on.
On the move today (south unless stated) were 4 Red-throated Diver, 2 Golden Plover in, 1 Skylark, 544 Meadow Pipit, 1 Rock Pipit, 2 Grey Wagtail, 85 House Martin, 3 Swallow, 11 Starling, 31 Linnet and 15 Goldfinch.
The only migrants present between the Spa and Holbeck were 8 Chiffchaff and 1 Willow Warbler.
At Flotmanby there were 6 Teal, 1 Dunlin and 1 Reed Warbler, 8 Grey Heron and 8 Wigeon were on Johnson's Marsh, 60 House Martin gathered over Peasholme Gap in the evening and 4 Egyptian Geese were at Wykeham South Lake.

Passage was slightly slower but there were at least a few more migrants present.
On the move (south unless stated) were 3 Golden Plover, 1 Swift, 746 Meadow Pipit, 1 Grey Wagtail, 1 alba, 61 House Martin, 14 Swallow, 5 Carrion Crow, 45 Starling, 2 Goldfinch and 3 Siskin.
Grounded between the Spa and South Cliff were 9 Meadow Pipit, 2 Grey Wagtail (Holbeck), 2 Wheatear, 7 Mistle Thrush (Holbeck), 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 1 Whitethroat, 1 Blackcap, 7 Chiffchaff, 1 Willow Warbler and 2 Goldcrest.
Off Holbeck were 26 Turnstone, 19 Redshank, 1 Greenshank and 9 Mediterranean Gulls, 11 Curlew were at Flotmanby and along Brompton Ings road there were 440 Lapwing and 12 Golden Plover.

It was another good day for Meadow Pipits heading south with 2347 past Long Nab. Also moving (south unless stated) were 5 Red-throated Diver, 1 Black-throated Diver north, 38 Fulmar + 23 north, 1151 Gannet + 74 north, 5 Cormorant, 1 Shag, 1 Grey Heron, 1 Little Egret, 5 Wigeon, 2 Common Scoter north, 3 Golden Plover, 2 Arctic Skua north, 65 Kittiwake north, 26 Black-headed Gull + 21 north, 3 Common Gull, 3 Sandwich Tern 3 north, 42 Auk sp north, 1 alba, 2 flava, 2 Grey Wagtail, 96 House Martin, 31 Swallow, 6 Goldfinch, 1 Siskin and 37 Linnet.
Grounded migrants were very thin on the ground, between Crook Ness and the Castle were 2 Whitethroat and 1 Chiffchaff. There were 154 Great Black-backed Gulls at Scalby Mills and 31 Turnstone and a Purple Sandpiper were in the Harbour. A Sanderling was in South Bay during the evening and 2 Dunlin and a Yellow Wagtail were at Wykeham South Lake.

On the move (south unless stated) were 9 Red-throated Diver + 1 north, 3 Fulmar + 156 north, 3 Sooty Shearwater north, 1 Manx Shearwater north, 584 Gannet + 105 north, 1 Cormorant + 1 north, 7 Teal north, 7 Common Scoter north, 4 Arctic Skua + 1 north, 37 Little Gull north, 1 Black-headed Gull + 7 north, 2 Common Gull north, 8 Great Black-backed Gull + 121 north, 166 Kittiwake north, 7 Sandwich Tern, 2 Commic Tern north, 91 Auk sp north, 1 Puffin north, 2 Swallow and 2 Meadow Pipit + 6 in. A Golden Plover was also at Long Nab.
A Spotted Flycatcher was in the Rose Garden, a Redstart was at Scalby Beck and a Wheatear and 2 Chiffchaff were on Castle Hill. Roosting in the Harbour were 23 Turnstone, 2 Purple Sandpiper and 1 Redshank and a Greenshank was in Jackson's Bay and later at Scalby Mills. Marsh Harriers were seen at Killerby and at Flotmanby where there were 2 Little Egrets.

A much quieter day with very few migrants around and only a trickle of passage.
On the move (south unless stated) were 2 Fulmar north, 3 Kittiwake north, 4 Sandwich Tern north, 5 Meadow Pipit, 28 House Martin and 7 Swallow.
Grounded between the Spa and South Cliff were 4 Meadow Pipit, 4 Chiffchaff and 1 Marsh Tit (Holbeck).

On the move today (south unless stated) were 3 Red-throated Diver, 6 Wigeon, 110 Common Scoter north, 19 Black-headed Gull, 2 Sandwich Tern, 3 Grey Wagtail, 2 flava, 1214 Meadow Pipit, 141 Swallow, 166 House Martin, 3 Sand Martin, 3 Siskin and 6 Linnet.
Migrants along South Cliff were few and far between with only 2 Whitethroat, 3 Blackcap, 4 Chiffchaff and 1 Willow Warbler.
Up to seven Mediterranean Gulls were at Holbeck, 37 Common Scoter were in South Bay, 3 Wigeon and a Pintail were at Seamer Tip and 4 Wigeon, 2 Mediterranean Gulls, 160+ Great Black-backed Gulls and a juvenile Arctic Tern were at Scalby Mills during the evening.

Another day of northerlies and another brilliant, if not better day over the sea.
One the move (north unless stated) were 15 Red-throated Diver + 17 south, 1 Red-necked Grebe, 338 Manx Shearwater, 55 Sooty Shearwater, 1 Balearic Shearwater, 1450 Fulmar including 1 'blue' Fulmar, 448 Gannet south, 4 Cormorant south, 1 Shag south, 35 Pale-bellied Brent Geese, 373 Teal, 257 Wigeon + 1 south, 6 Pintail, 1 Shoveler, 2 Mallard, 1 Tufted Duck, 1 Eider south, 294 Common Scoter, 2 Velvet Scoter, 1 Golden Plover + 1 in, 1 Grey Plover, 7 Oystercatcher south, 1 Ringed Plover, 2 juvenile Curlew Sandpiper, 5 Dunlin + 1 south, 1 Purple Sandpiper, 31 Arctic Skua + 14 south, 1 Pomarine Skua, 2 Long-tailed Skua, 9 Great Skua + 4 south, 143 Little Gull, 29 Black-headed Gull + 20 south, 4 Common Gull + 6 south, 4 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 699 Kittiwake, 6 Sandwich Tern + 13 south, 14 Common Tern, 8 Arctic Tern, 1 Commic Tern, 77 Auk sp, 2 Sand Martin south, 15 Swallow south, 2 House Martin south and 2 Rook.

With strong northerlies and heavy rain forecast limiting all birding to the Long Nab seawatching hut it wasn't too surprising that the sea produced plenty of birds.

On the move (south unless stated) were 2 Red-throated Diver + 1 north, 5 Cormorant + 1 north, 1 Shag north, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Buzzard, 7 Oystercatcher, 1 Ringed Plover, 7 Golden Plover, 1 Dunlin, 2 Snipe, 3 Arctic Skua, 7 Black-headed Gull + 16 north, 2 Common Gull, 9 Sandwich Tern, 49 Common Tern north, 102 Wood Pigeon, 8 Swift, 981 House Martin, 389 Swallow, 11 Sand Martin, 452 Meadow Pipit, 2 Rock Pipit north, 3 flava, 2 alba, 1 Jackdaw, 7 Carrion Crow, 1 Greenfinch, 9 Goldfinch, 1 Siskin, 79 Linnet and 1 Lesser Redpoll.
The juvenile Little Stint was still present on Scalby Lodge Pond while duck numbers on Johnson's Marsh had dropped to 13 Teal and 6 Wigeon. At Wykeham South Lake there were 420 Greylag Geese, 4 Egyptian Geese, 2 Pochard, 3 Common Sandpiper and 3 Ruff.

The Highlight of a watch today was a Balearic Shearwater that flew north at 07.50hrs. Also on the move (south unless stated) were 4 Red-throated Diver + 1 north, 129 Fulmar north, 11 Manx Shearwater north, 241 Gannet + 757 north, 3 Cormorant + 4 north, 1 Wigeon, 9 Teal north, 4 Mallard, 2 Common Scoter, 1 Sparrowhawk, 8 Oystercatcher, 15 Golden Plover, 2 Dunlin north, 2 Curlew, 2 Turnstone, 1 Arctic Skua, 17 Black-headed Gull + 19 north, 1 Common Gull + 2 north, 2 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 118 Kittiwake north, 1 Commic Tern north, 1 Razorbill north, 117 Swallow, 17 House Martin, 189 Meadow Pipit, 1 Rock Pipit, 1 flava, 1 alba, 11 Carrion Crow, 4 Tree Sparrow, 16 Goldfinch and 115 Linnet.
Grounded Migrants seen were 3 Whinchat, 3 Whitethroat, 2 Chiffchaff, 1 Willow Warbler and 2 Reed Bunting.
A juvenile Little Stint was on Scalby Lodge Pond with 2 Dunlin, 160 Great Black-backed Gull were in fields in the Long Nab area and 16 Teal and 8 Wigeon were on Johnson's Marsh.

On the move (south unless stated) during the day were 3 Red-throated Diver + 1 north, 239 Manx Shearwater north, 6 Sooty Shearwater north, 272 Fulmar north, 2 Cormorant north, 1 Shag north, 8 Teal + 3 north, 5 Pintail, 2 Wigeon, 32 Common Scoter north, 2 Oystercatcher, 12 Dunlin, 3 Redshank, 1 Whimbrel, 1 Great Skua + 4 north, 1 Arctic Skua + 5 north, 3 Black-headed Gull, 109 Kittiwake north, 3 Sandwich Tern north, 16 Swallow, 4 House Martin, 1 Sand Martin, 46 Meadow Pipit, 1 Alba, 1 Grey Wagtail, 15 Linnet and 2 Goldfinch.
Migrants between Long Nab and the Castle were 1 Wheatear, 8 Whinchat (Scalby Lodge), 1 Blackcap, 3 Whitethroat, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 6 Chiffchaff, 1 Willow Warbler and 1 Yellowhammer.
A Ruff and a Redshank were on Scalby Lodge Pond.
Of interest a Clouded Yellow was seen at Barley Carr Rigg.

The day began slowly but a small arrival of migrants from 10am onwards made for a good day.
The Highlight though were 2 Raven flying north at Long Nab at 17.22hrs.
Migrants grounded between Castle and South Cliff were 10 Wheatear, 1 Whinchat, 7 Blackcap, 7 Whitethroat, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 1 Sedge Warbler, 10 Chiffchaff, 3 Willow Warbler, 1 Goldcrest and 1 Spotted Flycatcher, 2 Goldcrest were also in Falsgrave Park.
On the move throughout the day (south unless stated) were single Red-throated Diver north, 96 Fulmar + 161 north, 17 Sooty Shearwater north, 2 Manx Shearwater + 72 north, 3 Cormorant, 2 Shag + 1 north, 3 Mallard, 1 Pintail + 1 north, 36 Teal + 48 north, 5 Wigeon + 32 north, 1 Greenshank, 1 Bar-tailed Godwit, 17 Arctic Skua + 3 north, 1 Long-tailed Skua, 11 Great Skua + 1 north, 137 Kittiwake north, 5 Sandwich Tern north, 1 Arctic Tern north, 16 Swallow, 4 House Martin and 2 Meadow Pipit.

A quiet day, Marsh Harriers were seen at Scalby Lodge Pond and at Ruston Carr. Two Golden Plover were back on Potter Brompton, a Greenshank and a juvenile Peregrine were at Flotmanby and 1 Garden Warbler, 2 Chiffchaff and 1 Spotted Flycatcher were at Ravenscar.

Today saw the first meaningful push of Meadow Pipits and Swallows of the autumn. On the move (south unless stated) were 16 Teal north, 1 Buzzard, 5 Snipe, 8 Black-headed Gull, 1 Arctic Tern north, 143 Swallow, 5 House Martin, 8 Sand Martin, 103 Meadow Pipit, 1 Flava, 1 Alba, 1 Grey Wagtail, 9 Tree Sparrow and 41 Linnet.
Migrants in the Long Nab area included 6 Whinchat, 6 Whitethroat, 4 Chiffchaff, 3 Willow Warbler and 1 Spotted Flycatcher.
In the Ravenscar area there was a Marsh Harrier and in South Bay there were 5 adult Mediterranean Gulls, 24 Sandwich and 1 Common Tern.

Of interest, a new Female Peregrine has taken up residence along Marine Drive. Here is a record shot taken by Adrian Ewart showing the red Darvic 'FC', she was rung as a chick on 19th May 2012 at an undisclosed site in East Lancashire and was last seen there in August last year.

On the move (south unless stated) were 19 Fulmar + 41 north, 3 Manx Shearwater north, 3 Cormorant north, 9 Common Scoter north, 6 Buzzard, 1 Marsh Harrier (through Flotmanby), 11 Oystercatcher north, 1 Golden Plover, 1 Great Skua north, 1 Arctic Skua north, 13 Black-headed Gull north, 1 Common Tern north, 2 Guillemot + 11 north, 2 Puffin north, 18 Swallow, 1 Grey Wagtail, 21 Meadow Pipit and 7 Linnet.
In the Long Nab area there were 9 Whinchat, 1 Wheatear, 8 Whitethroat and 1 Willow Warbler. At Flotmanby there was a Ringed Plover, 6 Dunlin, 1 Green Sandpiper, 2 Greenshank and 2 Snipe and at Wykeham South lake there was an Egyptian Goose, 38 Tufted Duck and a Wheatear.

A very slow day again, highlights heading south were 2 Black-tailed Godwit and 1 Great Skua.
At Scalby Mills there was a Common Sandpiper and 7 Common Tern while at Holbeck there were 2 Ringed Plover, 1 Common Sandpiper and 2 Mediterranean Gulls.

Highlight of the day was an Osprey seen at Ellerburn Trout Farm, the same site that held one for a few days back in spring.
It was a very quiet morning at Long Nab, passing there (south unless stated) were 3 Red-throated Diver, 23 Fulmar + 13 north, 3 Manx Shearwater + 7 north, 1140 Gannet + 58 north, 1 Cormorant north, 18 Oystercatcher north, 8 Dunlin, 2 Turnstone + 1 north, 3 Knot, 14 Redshank, 1 Arctic Skua north, 1 Great Skua, 7 Black-headed Gull + 1 north, 2 Common Gull and 5 Kittiwake + 35 north.
Flotmanby was much quieter too, only a Dunlin, 11 Curlew and 5 Snipe were present and a Turtle Dove was seen in Cloughton.

Friday 30th - Saturday 31st August 2013

Friday was a slow day, a Wheatear was round Marine Drive and waders seen included 2 Greenshank on Flotmanby, a Greenshank on Johnson's and 5 Ringed Plover, 75 Oystercatcher, 4 Dunlin, 5 Redshank and a Curlew in Jackson's Bay.

The highlight on Saturday was a juvenile Long-tailed Skua south past Long Nab, also passing there (south unless stated) were 2 Red-throated Diver north, 11 Fulmar + 69 north, 1 Sooty Shearwater north, 8 Manx Shearwater + 2 north, 10 Cormorant, 2 Oystercatcher, 1 Redshank, 2 Arctic Skua, 1 Great Skua, 27 Kittiwake, 3 Rock Pipit, 2 Meadow Pipit, 1 Alba and 5 Linnet, 8 Whinchat were also in the Long Nab area and a Wheatear was at Cloughton.
The 2 juvenile Curlew Sandpipers and 2 juvenile Little Stints were still on Flotmanby along with 2 Ringed Plover, 5 Dunlin, 2 Green Sandpiper a Greenshank, 2 Curlew a Ruff and a Sedge Warbler.
A Nightjar was seen resting on the road between Snainton and Yedingham before being flush by traffic at 20.45hrs.
