It was another good day for Meadow Pipits heading south with 2347 past Long Nab. Also moving (south unless stated) were 5 Red-throated Diver, 1 Black-throated Diver north, 38 Fulmar + 23 north, 1151 Gannet + 74 north, 5 Cormorant, 1 Shag, 1 Grey Heron, 1 Little Egret, 5 Wigeon, 2 Common Scoter north, 3 Golden Plover, 2 Arctic Skua north, 65 Kittiwake north, 26 Black-headed Gull + 21 north, 3 Common Gull, 3 Sandwich Tern 3 north, 42 Auk sp north, 1 alba, 2 flava, 2 Grey Wagtail, 96 House Martin, 31 Swallow, 6 Goldfinch, 1 Siskin and 37 Linnet.
Grounded migrants were very thin on the ground, between Crook Ness and the Castle were 2 Whitethroat and 1 Chiffchaff. There were 154 Great Black-backed Gulls at Scalby Mills and 31 Turnstone and a Purple Sandpiper were in the Harbour. A Sanderling was in South Bay during the evening and 2 Dunlin and a Yellow Wagtail were at Wykeham South Lake.

This Muntjac Deer was a rather unusual record, casually strolling through the field just by the Long Nab seawatch hut! Michael McNaghten
