Friday 18th October

At Long Nab this morning: 3 Snow Buntings were being hunted by a Merlin in the fields north of the observatory; a Long-eared Owl flew in from the east and veered off north-west over the sea towards Cloughton Wyke; and a Short-eared Owl flew in off the sea and landed in the end of Long Hedge. Other highlights from Long Nab included 2 Arctic Terns, a Little Gull heading north, and a Mediterranean Gull heading south. In the Langdale Rigg/Lun Rigg area of Langdale Forest there was a Ring Ouzel, a Willow Tit, a Goshawk and 60+ Crossbills. On Castle Hill there was a male Stonechat, a Goldcrest and 12 Robins, while in the harbour there were 53 Turnstones.
