Thursday 17th October

Early this morning a Guillemot was seen in the harbour, and Kingfishers were seen at both Scalby Mills and the Open Air Theatre. A Yellow-browed warbler, a Jay, 2 Bullfinches and 8 Mistle Thrushes were seen in the plantation at the side of the quarry on Cockrah Road, plus 30 Redwings flying west. 5 Grey Wagtails were at Scalby Mills, 4 Goldcrests were at Crook Ness, and at Wykeham South Lake there were 34 Coot, 4 Great Crested Grebes and 2 Little Grebes. Seamer Road Mere had 17 Tufted Duck, a Goldeneye, 2 Coot, a Blackcap and a Chiffchaff. A Chiffchaff was also seen at Oliver's Mount, and small numbers of Redwings were moving west over Valley Road. 80 Pink-footed Geese were flying south about half a mile out to sea past Cloughton Wyke. Present near Long Nab were 4 Snow Buntings, a Ring Ouzel, 5 Stonechats and a Brambling. Passing Long Nab were 5 Goosanders, 236 Tree Sparrows, 2 Brambling, a Twite and 36 Reed Buntings heading south, and a Brambling and a Snow Bunting heading north. A Chiffchaff, 3 Bramblings and 6 Redwings were near Cliff Top House this evening and 35+ Redwings were seen in Wrench Green.
