Its felt like an age for Sand Martin to make an appearance this year and today it finally did with a single at Wykeham South Lake. While it is 7 days later than last years its a whole 8 days earlier than in 2013.
Also there were 2 Egyptian Geese, 2 Pink-footed Geese, 4 Goldeneye and the first Black-tailed Godwit of the year.
Other firsts for the year were a cracking Water Pipit at Long Nab, an early Lesser Whitethroat in Scalby and a Swallow at Flixton Carr.
Other migrants seen along the coast were 2 Snipe, 20 Meadow Pipit, 7 Goldcrest and 2 Chiffchaff at Long Nab and a Chifchaff and 27 Redwing out east at Castle Hill
Elsewhere a Short-eared Owl and a Jack Snipe were at Seamer Tip, a Red Kite was seen in Scampston, 4 Teal, 18 Purple Sandpiper and an adult Mediterranean Gull were in Cornelian Bay, 4 Tufted Duck, 2 Gadwall and a Snipe were on Harwood Dale Lake and 5 Tufted Duck flew south off Marine Drive.
