Sunday 2nd August

A Hen Harrier, a Red Kite and a Marsh Harrier were all seen at the same time over fields inland from Crook Ness early this morning, and later 3 Marsh Harriers were over the fields at Long Nab. A Marsh Harrier and a Red Kite were also seen together from South Cliff heading south over South Bay, followed later by a second Marsh Harrier. Also seen from South Cliff were 24 Crossbills heading south and 7 north, and a second summer Mediterranean Gull in from the east, while 4 Crossbills flew south at Long Nab and 32 flew south and 5 north at Ravenscar. A family of 4 Spotted Flycatchers were seen near Northstile, Wrench Green, as well as a Willow Tit. An Osprey and a Hobby were both seen at Wykeham Lakes. This afternoon the Hen Harrier was again seen over the fields inland of Crook Ness, plus a Marsh Harrier and a Buzzard. In Jackson's Bay there were 13 Common Terns (one a juvenile), 2 Sandwich Terns, and 2 Redshank on the rocks, while 120 Swifts were feeding between Rocks Lane and the water treatment works. A Common Sandpiper, a juvenile Yellow-legged Gull and 10 Pied Wagtails were at Wykeham East Lake early evening, and 6 Grey Partridges were spotted down from the Wykeham South Lake viewpoint. A Red Kite was over Cloughton Woods, and 2 were also at Hayburn Wyke. At Jackson's Bay at high tide there were 14 Turnstone, 10 Redshank and a Ringed Plover. A pair of Stonechats were on the cliffs there, and a Dunlin was seen flying south at Scalby Mills.
