Sunday 11th October

A Short-eared Owl was seen in the grass on the cliff top near the Long Nab observation hut before flying off northwards. Small numbers of Redwings and Blackbirds were along the Cleveland Way and at Cliff Top House, while at least 50 Redwings were around town at first light. A Kingfisher was seen at the Open Air Theatre, 2 Whooper Swans flew inland over Johnson's Marsh, and about 80 Pink-footed Geese flew south just inland of North Bay. Highlights from a short sea watch from Marine Drive include 2 Velvet Scoter, 4 Sooty Shearwaters and a Red-breasted Merganser all heading north, plus an Arctic Skua and another Red-breasted Merganser heading south. Highlights from Castle Hill this morning include 25 Blackbirds, a Blackcap, 3 Chiffchaffs, a Yellow-browed Warbler, and a Brambling. 3 Purple Sandpipers were on East Pier.
