Wednesday 2nd September

2 Wigeon and 2 Great Crested Grebes were at Wykeham South Lake this morning, while at East Lake there were 2 Great Crested Grebes, 25 Lapwings and 8 Herons. Passing through South Cliff were 10 Grey Wagtails (9 south), 4 Flava wagtails south, 325 Meadow Pipits south, 4 Goosanders (out east from the Mere), 9 Swifts south and a Greenshank north. 2 Whinchats, a Stonechat and a Nuthatch were at Holbeck. Passing Ravenscar southwards were a Greenshank, 203 Meadow Pipits, 259 Siskins, 9 Redpoll and 6 Crossbills (and 12 north). A Merlin and 19 Swifts were seen heading south at Long Nab, and a Dunlin and 32 Teal were at Johnson's Marsh. 2 Kingfishers were at the Open Air Theatre lake. At Scampston Park Lake the were 2 juvenile Scaup, a Wigeon, 3 Teal, 18 Gadwall and a Mandarin, while about 10 Lesser Black-backed Gulls were in the Knapton pig fields. A Bittern was sound recorded last night over Crossgates.
