Tuesday 11th May

Early this morning a Cuckoo was heard calling near the Sixth Form College, and another was heard in the woods north of Jugger Howe. A Lesser Whitethroat was singing at Jameson Crescent, and another plus a Reed Warbler at Taylor Way. 10 Swifts were screaming above the Oasis Cafe in North Bay, Blackcaps were on Woodlands Drive and Woodlands Cemetery, while an Oystercatcher flew over the field west of Plaxton Court. A Little Egret and a Tree Pipit flew north and 12 Barnacle Geese flew south through South Cliff, where at least 9 Wheatears flew in. Both Great Northern Divers were yet again in South Bay, and the Pied Flycatcher was still at Hilla Green together with a Spotted Flycatcher. Between May Beck car park and Falling Foss 2 Spotted Flycatchers, 2 Blackcaps, a Chiffchaff and a Buzzard were seen this morning, while a Garden Warbler and a Crossbill were by the gate into the plantation at Maybeck. 2 Reed Warblers, 6 Lesser Whitethraots and 6 Wheateasr were at Long Nab, where a Tree Pipit flew north and 2 Corn Buntings flew south. An Osprey flew west at Wykeham Raptor viewpoint.
