Monday 10th May

A Barn Owl was spotted near the A64 roundabout early this morning and a first summer Little Gull was in South Bay. A Marsh Harrier flew south past Long Nab and later another flew in from the east. 4 pairs of Grey Partridge and 2 Red Kites were in the Scampston area. A Black-tailed Godwit flew north past South Cliff with Oystercatchers, 4 Swifts flew over the old town, and 2 Turtle Doves were calling and feeding in Harwood Dale. 8 Sedge Warblers, 3 Reed Warblers and 2 Garden Warblers were at Wykeham South Lake while 5 Lesser Black-backed Gulls were at the East Lake. 50 Swifts and a Wheatear were near Riverhead Farm, Harwood Dale. An Osprey flew north along South Cliff before being forced by gulls to fly west in line with Valley Road. A Litte Egret and a White Wagtail flew north past Long Nab, an adult Mediterranean Gull and a Corn Bunting flew south, a Wheatear was present and 5 Whimbrel and 49 Lesser Black-backed Gulls flew past. Passing through South Cliff were a Cuckoo and a Tree Pipit north, plus a Mediterranean Gull, 2 Sanderlings, and 1112 Swallows south. The 2 Great Northern Divers were again in South Bay, and a Yellow Wagtail was seen at Givendale Head Farm. A Common Sandpiper and 28 Lesser Black-backed Gulls were at Wykeham Lakes this afternoon, where a pair of Oystercatchers have a chick on the island.
