Sunday 22nd May
The bird of the day was undoubtedly a male RED-BACKED SHRIKE, found this afternoon on Fylingdales Moor east of May Beck Plantation. Two Ravens flew over at that location and a Whinchat was at Eller Beck. At Long Nab, four Barnacle Geese flew south and two flew north inland of the Observatory. The Pale-bellied Brent goose remained at Scalby Mills along with an Eider and Mute Swan. The Grasshopper Warbler was still present just south of Crook Ness and a Yellow Wagtail was on wires on the track to Play Dale Farm. Two Cuckoos were in the Castlebeck/Scar Wood area along with a Common Redstart, Green Woodpecker and Grey Wagtail. A Spotted Flycatcher and singing Common Redstart were at Raincliffe Woods this morning and a recently fledged Rock Pipit was on rock armour near to the Harbour.
