Saturday 28th September

The Slavonian Grebe was again in the harbour, but could not be found late afternoon. Highlights from today's seawatch at Long Nab; Red-necked Grebe, Long-tailed Skua, and Pomarine Skua all flew north, a supporting cast of Velvet Scoter, 9 Little Gulls, 4 Mediterranean Gulls, Puffin, and 2 Sooty Shearwaters. Good numbers of more common seabirds moving back north after the gales; 1,173 Kittiwakes and 530 Razorbill/Guillemots. Two Yellow-browed Warblers were in a garden in Scalby Village, plus one again at Crook Ness. At Burton Riggs the goose flock consisted of one Pink-footed, 150 Canada, and 245 Greylag. A Chiffchaff at Taylor Way; still plenty around our area. Two Little Egrets at Thornton le Dale Water Treatment. 1200 Herring Gulls, 350 Black-headed Gulls were feeding on extensive floods at Cayton Carrs, also a Marsh Harrier there. 54 Teal at Johnson's Marsh.
