No
new discoveries today but quite a lot of news filtered through.
A
total of 9 Mediterranean Gulls were reported today with an adult at Scalby
Mills (red ring H1N4 from Hungary) and 8 at Holbeck, 2 1st winter, a
2nd winter and 5 adults (1 with white ring 3LAN from Netherlands).
Wildfowl
and Gulls from Wykeham South Lake included 5 Shoveler. 14 Pochard, 5 Goldeneye,
11 Gadwall and 5 Wigeon then in the evening gull roost c1500 Herring Gulls, 30
Greater Black-backed Gulls, c300 Black-headed Gulls, c800 Common Gulls and also
a Green Woodpecker was heard calling. Other wildfowl reports today included 14 Gadwall
and 15 Teal at Scampston; 2 Long-tailed Ducks, 2 Velvet Scoters and 5 Common Scoters
in South Bay; 2 Common Scoters in North Bay; 4 Goosanders and 44 Tufted Ducks at
The Mere with 3 Pink-footed Geese with the Greylag flock nearby on Queen
Margaret’s Road and 18 White-fronted Geese seen at both Burton Riggs and Seamer
Tip pool.
In
the Harbour area there were 2 Great Northern Divers, 2 Black-necked Grebes and 52
Purple Sandpipers whilst nearby 4 Red-throated Divers off Marine Drive and on
Royal Albert Drive the 2 Black Redstarts and Stonechat remained.
Elsewhere
in our area a Chiffchaff was seen in Trough Gulley, a Grey Plover and 2 Dunlin
were in Jackson’s Bay, a Green Sandpiper was on Star Carr and 2 Bramblings were
at Malton Cote Farm near Ebberston.
