Friday 7th April 2017

At Potter Brompton Carr today a Little Egret, 3 Wigeon, 25 Common Snipe, 3 Blackcaps and a Brambling and there was also a Brambling in town in a garden on Westwood Court.

At Ravenscar the 2cy Glaucous Gull was seen again among the seal colony, a Willow Tit was seen on the feeders below the visitors centre and a Green Woodpecker calling from the ravine to the north of the golf course.

Some of the long stayers were still present today, the remaining ♂ Garganey on Johnson’s Marsh, the Great Grey Shrike at Maw Rigg in Langdale Forest and the Dark-bellied Brent Goose with the damaged wing at Burton Riggs.

A couple of unusual sightings to finish today were a Treecreeper which flew through an office window on Plantation Hill this morning and this evening a Black Redstart appeared in a front garden in The Dene in Peasholme as Nick Addey was watching a bit of TV. The neighbours were a little surprised to see him out on the street with bins and camera in hand.
