Sunday 1st December

Waxwings galore! To summarise: groups of up to 25 Waxwings were seen around the Newlands Park Drive/Newland Park Crescent/ St Peter's School area throughout the morning. Groups also moved between Willymath Close in Burniston and somewhere to the north of there, with the number of birds seen there peaking at 65 this afternoon. At Wykeham South Lake this morning there were 79 Coot, 6 Goldeneye, 6 Great Crested Grebes, 5 Little Grebes, 3 Gadwall and 23 Tufted Duck. A Brambling was at Crook Ness, a Snow Bunting was behind the observation hut at Long Nab, and a Great Northern Diver flew past northwards. 6 Whooper Swans were spotted flying south over Crossgates early in the morning, and a Water Rail, a Kingfisher and 2 Willow Tits were seen at New Dike, Seamer Tip. Late in the afternoon a Little Owl, a Barn Owl and 7 Snipe were seen at Thornton Carrs.
